Reinhold Moritzevich Glière (Russian: Рейнгольд Морицевич Глиэр, Ukrainian: Ре́йнгольд Мо́ріцевич Гліер / Reingol'd Moritsevich Glier; born Reinhold Ernest Glier, which was later converted for standardization purposes; 11 January 1875 [O.S. 30 December 1874] - 23 June 1956), was a composer in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, of German and Polish descent.

What an interesting combo. Edit: I still cannot believe this sound is coming from a double bass and not a cello! We need to give the double bass some more love!

The double bass is such an underestimated and underappreciated instrument! There are lots of things the bass just cannot do but what it excells at are relatively slow and melancholic pieces - the deep sound just ads so much to compositions.

Why do some many people say this when we bassist show them Virtuoso double bass. It’s like they never heard or cared about it in their whole life.

Unreal, playing the double bass like it's a tiny violin! The Tarantelle (3:42) reminds us of Wieniawski's; a staple piece of the violin repertoire, written in 1855, almost half a century earlier. The modal Prelude set in Mixolydian flat6 has a special flavor attached to it.

Who is this played by in those recordings?
Plot twist: 0:16/8:56 Since the double bass is in treble/tenor clef, it might as well have been called a double treble/tenor. PS It would be funny if you had the score to the 4th piece, because you might then be scherzo-ing (joking) in saying you didn't have it. (No offence).
Van halen first is a magnificent album(riffs, way of playing, sound, aproach..) and top band from the 80s if not the best
