Reindeer gathering is one of the main national holidays for the indigenous people of the North. The name speaks for itself ... Every year, at the end of March (there is still snow on Yamal), reindeer herders from different parts of the tundra come together to relax, have fun, participate in sports, and also meet with their friends and relatives. During the meeting, the organizers prepare for the tundra participants a large concert and entertainment program with songs, dances, competitions for adults and children and not only. During this period (the holiday is usually designed for two days), a street trade with hot tea, barbecue, sweets takes place on the square in the settlement that hosts the guests...
Local and visiting artists perform on the open-air stage, several judging teams are working next to the stage, who evaluate the competition of reindeer herders in such national forms as throwing the Tynzyan on a trochee, national wrestling, triple national jump, tug of a stick and racing on reindeer teams. Native northerners on the day of the Reindeer herders' gathering try to put on bright colorful national clothes. The general mood of the audience, as a rule, is wonderful.
