Reims is the largest city in the Champagne region, mistaken by many for the capital. Reims is called "the city of coronations" or "the city of kings": on the site where Reims Cathedral would later be built, the apostle of the Franks, St. Remigius, baptized King Chlodwig I. As a result, many kings of France were crowned here for more than 10 centuries, from Louis I the Pious in 816 to Charles X in 1825. Reims is included in the national list of French Cities of Art and History.
The city's jewel, Reims Cathedral, is unusual in that it was the coronation site of 33 kings of France.
