Please follow Reign's story as we battle IVDD together.
Reign the German Shepherd on June 21st. One day after her FIRST acupuncture session (June 20th). She has continued to show signs of deterioration over the past week and has not been able to stand up or weight bear.
Reign is my German Shepherd support dog that needs a spinal decompression surgery. She was first diagnosed with IVDD Type II (Slow onset) on October 6th 2023, but she then relapsed with acute IVDD on May 11th 2024. I am exhausting all avenues to try to save Reign's life, but so far I have found absolutely no support whatsoever and I fear I am losing the battle.
A neurologist examined Reign on June 11th, 2024, and these videos were originally intended to show him Reign's progress over the days to follow. Reign is otherwise using a Walkin' Wheels wheelchair because I also have a degenerative spinal condition and I am unable to support her weight of 60 pounds.
I have since decided to keep posting as I feel these videos could help others that are in a similar situation. There is very little information out there on how to manage large breed dogs with IVDD. This is my journal on Reign's progress. I hope that this might help others!
Reign maintains bladder and bowel control at this time.

What do you have on her feet? My shepherd has (what we suspect is) degenerative myelopathy and is knuckling

Hi Jeanne. I'm so sorry to hear that. Reign wears thick anti-slip socks. The socks work very well in protecting her paws from injury and provide excellent grip. In Reign's case, boots have not worked well for her so I've given up on boots entirely.
