Reharmonisation: Complete Overview is the perfect course for those wishing to dive into the world of Reharmonisation. Whether you want to Reharmonise cover songs, re-arrange your own original material, or maybe you just want to know how to create crazy chord structures for your own songwriting, this course gives you the tools and the knowledge to do all of this from the ground up. For those of you that have seen my arrangements of Say My Name, Babyshark or even Wheels on the Bus, all of these have been fully transcribed and I breakdown my thought process when it comes to arranging and reharmonising these songs in a way that's accesible to all manner of musicians.
In the Foundations part of the course, we are looking at the fundamental Harmony/Theory behind Reharmonisation, Functional Harmomy, a number of different chord types/subsitutions and integral concepts such as Voice Leading & Pedal Point Harmony. For each video lesson topic, we have an Example (fully transcribed) reharmonising a melody from a popular song, so you can understand how to use these concepts in a real-life musical scenario.
In the Intermediate video course, we are building on all of the foundations we set already and diving into more advanced Reharmonisation topics such as Secondary Dominants, Tritone Substitution, Passing Diminished Chords and my 'favourite' connecter chords. We look at how we can apply these concepts to both Functional Harmony & Non-Functional Harmony. From there, we'll be looking at Harmony built from the Diminished Scale and Melodic Minor Scales and seeing how we can apply these concepts to a Pop Melody. There's even a section dedicated to Solo Guitar Arrangements and here you can explore how to not only just pre-write and arrange your reharms, but also how to improvise with all of these ideas and concepts.
In the Advanced section of the course, things start to really ramp up. We build further on our Subsitution concepts, but we also dive into ideas used by bands like Dirty Loops, such as Chromatic Mediants and Constant Structures. We'll breakdown important topics such as Quartal Harmomy, Modal Harmony & Modal Interchange and see how we can apply all of these to a Pop Song. There's a TON of Gospel influence throughout and I've tried to breakdown all of the ideas I learned by playing with various Gospel Musicians over the years. There's also a lot of 'Jazz' influenced harmony and concepts throughout this course, but I want to show you that 'beautiful harmony' is not limited to just Jazz-based genres. Maybe you don't want things to sound so beautiful though? Don't worry - we can get VERY weird sounding here too!
In the Song Breakdowns, I'm walking you through the thought process of writing, rearranging and reharmonising the following tracks on guitar:
Babyshark
Say 'The' Name
'Pocket Monsterinos'
Wheels on the Bus
Jingle Bells
You'll get the tabs in Guitar Pro Format and .pdf for all of the song examples as well as the backing tracks, so you can play along to these crazy arrangements too!

Jack, as a fellow Dirty Loops lover, I became absolutely obsessed with the chord changes in their cover of Justin Beiber's Baby. I do have a lot of theory under my belt, but I've never known where to start with this endeavor and always felt their style was unattainable for me. You've pretty much reached inside my brain and delivered exactly what I've been searching for. Needless to say, I jumped on this immediately! Your style is 100% right up my street, and I've loved everything you put out. In short, this is a rather verbose way of me saying keep doing what you're doing mate, and thanks for being such a great educator too.

Hey, I doubt you'll see this but I signed up for musicbro, and I gotta be honest. This is exactly what I was looking for. So many courses out there ask you to learn a bunch of licks and charge you for it. But I like the approach you guys do. It's more conceptual as in "how do I write the insane stuff I see other players playing" rather than just "learn this lick or song and good luck!" I like that approach it's well thought out and the fact that you guys added a seda masterclass is sick! so thanks :)

Hey Jack! Just bought this course as this is exactly the kind of stuff I've always wanted to be able to do - would you recommend starting off with any of your other courses before cracking on with Reharmonisation? I already have your music theory, fretboard visualisation and modern chordal playing courses (also got your Neo Soul course on Musicisum) but I haven't yet completed them so wondering whether to hold off on starting this one til I've finished with the others... Loving your work as always brother!

  • @JackGardiner

Hey man! Thanks so much for checking it out! 💙🙏 I guess you could start with this one seeing as it starts with foundations. I cover a lot of the theory aspects/rules in this one as we go, but you can always refer to the Theory course too for more in depth explanations of certain concepts. This one isn’t necessarily a chord bible, in the sense that I’m assuming you know some basic shapes and Voicings for certain chords, so you might want to check out Modern Chordal Playing too. The cool thing is, all examples are transcribed for you to check out though, so it might give you some new chords just learning the examples! 🤘
