Rehab exercises for quadriceps tendinopathy (jumpers knee)

Quadriceps tendinopathy (also known as jumper's knee) presents as pain on the top side of the patella. While a rehab program for patellar tendinopathy may be helpful, there are some modifications that can make the rehab more effective.

    Do not do the reverse Nordic unless your quad tendon is ready for it. I tried it and really reaggravated my quad tendon. I have quad tendinopothy with a minor tear.

    Have to gradually build up to a reverse nordic as it is a heavy eccentric load. Definitely not an early rehab exercise.

    Definitely not uncommon. Although 2 weeks ago there's a lot for the body to adjust to after surgery. Hope you are doing well, best wishes for a speedy ACL recovery.

    So what should I do if I have both Quadriceps tendinopathy and the patella issues as well? Both exercises?

  • @MichaelBraccio

    @MichaelBraccio

    7 ай бұрын

    There's typically enough crossover between the two, that starting with the exercises that are best tolerated and build up from there.

    My knee hurts above the kneecap but only when slightly bent. It doesn't matter if I'm laying down or standing up.

    Hard to say. Might be a tendon issue but could also be something else. Best to have it checked out to see what is leading to the pain.

    So is the main objective is to build strength in the quad,stretch or rest?

  • @MichaelBraccio

    @MichaelBraccio

    7 ай бұрын

    For tendon issues, typically, the main goal is to build tolerance to load by strengthening the quads. If it's a spike in load that contributed to the pain, a short period of rest can be helpful

    Is a deep leg extension (isotonic) ok to do for quad Tendonopathy ?

  • @MichaelBraccio

    If tolerated, sometimes have to gradually progress to it. But deeper knee flexion helps to load the quadriceps tendon more.

    How do you strengthen it aswell to eliminate some possibility of this happening in the future

  • @MichaelBraccio

    Building up the strength can be helpful to avoid overloading. Essentially building a bigger margin. But there’s a lot of factors that contribute to injury so it’s tough to prevent them in general.

    Quad tendon problems can happen because of weak VMO and tight vastus lateralis. Strengthen VMO and loosen vastus lateralis will help. As well as adding these rehab workouts into your warmups for the long term. Call it pre-hab

    Hey I’m a runner and it hurts to bend my knee for example if I were to do a standing leg curl I can feel all the pain coming from my patella when I bend what should I do?

  • @MichaelBraccio

    @MichaelBraccio

    Hi there! It all depends on what is causing the pain. So you'd really need to have someone evaluate the knee to figure out what the right direction for treatment would be.

    How many sets of each hold?

  • @MichaelBraccio

    @MichaelBraccio

    4 ай бұрын

    It depends on the tolerance to load. Some people can tolerate more load (3x15) while others need to start at lower loads (2x10). So it is about finding what load/sets are tolerated and gradually building up from there.

    I have it in both my legs,im wondering at what point we go from isometric to isotenic?can isomteric can be done daily unlike isotinc? And can be my load tolrance can be very low to start with isometric low sets (exmple) i do knee extantion against a chair for 1x3-5sec daily ,is that too low cuz i feel that the lv i can tolrate and get strong from,i really appricate if u answer

  • @MichaelBraccio

    @MichaelBraccio

    10 күн бұрын

    Knowing when to transition from isometric to isotonic can be tough. It’s really about whether you can tolerate the loads. People have different tolerances so rehab is really about finding what load someone can tolerate and gradually building up from there.

    Fancy words to describe useless and outdated information - this will make tendinopathy worse. The tendon works on a stretch reflex not lengthening under load.

    tendons work on the stretch reflex.. absorbing high forces eccentrically (lengthening the muscle) and reproducing them concentrically. I think you dismantled your own argument.
