I saw morisette did this arrangement... And i was in awe with her talent magaling tlga shang singer.. But when i went back to regine's version.. Nakakagigil. Sorry but the way regine attack the song is beyond perfection... From her whispers like she's telling the story, the build up, till its climax is just flawless and precise. Natural, alam mong hindi inaral at prinaktis lhat ng tinapon na emosyon. A very moving performance. Lastly, others may belt as high but there is something in regine on how she blows her notes that sounds really satisfying. I dont know how to explain pro anlayo tlga. And up to this day, Her prime vocal performances remains unrivaled. Walang papantay tlga.

Ed Wilburt coz baby.. this song really describes how their(ogie and her) started.. kung baga dito niya na kinwento kung ano ang hirap, sakit at saya ng love story nila.. :) mowie's version is just an interpretation but admit she won't be chosen by mr. maestro if she can't give justice to the song.. still regine owns the song i love them both..

I agree. Hindi niya inaral yung emotions. Regine was singing this like she went through the emotions of the song in real life. Also agree na iba pa rin si Regine bumuga ng nota parang dagundung at sobrang lakas. Iba talaga vs other singers.

@@jessamari4842 I am not sure if yun yung intent niya. However, a song sang in Regine's key and arrangement is already difficult enough. Especially itong song na ito. Maraming whispers dito tapos after bilang chest notes. Nakakahingal yun. Kaya pasikip ng pasikip yung breath mo habang patagal ng patagal yung song. Lalo na sa dulo.

Here after watching Mori’s version in Asap yesterday. No one can sing this version other than Regine.

As the writer of "This Time I'll Be Sweeter" I have had the pleasure of working with many artists in my life, but this is one of the GREATEST performances I have EVER seen! Ms. Velasquez doesn't appear to be merely 'singing;' she seems to be living the song, bringing it completely to life. That's what it's all about, in my opinion. This performance could be used as a teaching video for ALL singers. I would LOVE to come to PH to work with Regine, Ogie and Mr. C.

What they keep forgetting is the heart of the song. Si Regine halos mangiyak ngiyak na dito. Her high notes and belts here are the screams and cries of her broken heart. Ramdam mo yung wasak at pagdurugo ng puso niya habang kinakanta to.

This is the golden standard of Sometime Somewhere na nakaukit na sa kasaysayan ng OPM. Regine's version is so great that the song's composer, Ryan Cayabyab has 'given' this song to her on her 48th birthday. Wala nang mas hihigit pa dito. All you can really do is to justify and nail the song if you sing her arrangement - no more, no less. Anything more or less than that is bound to disappoint.

Hindi sya pumiyok kundi nasintunado lang dahil hindi na kinaya ng baga. Kaya lang....lumalabas na trying hard syang lagpasan yung highnotes ni Regine sa bandang dulo. Talagang ramdam mo na nag-eeffort silang lahat na malagpasan at lamangan yung mga flairs ni Regine. Mas pwersa pag sila kumanta at tyak mas mabilis bumigay ang mga boses nila sa murang edad dahil si Regine ay mas effortless kumanta at halata naman yun sa mga moves nya na kahit sobrang taas na ay hindi mo ramdam sa mukha at movement sa katawan yung hirap dahil natural lang yung high pitch ng boses nya. Mas ramdam mo sa expression ng mukha at boses nya kung paano nya ikwento yung kanta. At yan ang hindi ko masyadong maramdaman sa mga baguhang singer ngayon kasi minsan mas lamang na yung pa-impress kaysa express. Kaya naman kahit 51 na si Regine ngayon ay kaya pa ring bumirit dahil yun ang kapasidad ng lungs nya.

In my opinion, no one else can sings and interpret this song better than Regine! Regine owns this song. This is the best version there is and will ever be! Nobody sings like Regine. A living legend. She needs to get way more credit than what she's getting. The whole world should know more of her talent!

Madaming Pinoy singers na matataas ang boses. I think it's not fair to say na si Regine lang ang magaling (tho for me siya pinakamagaling haha), pero there's something about the tone of her voice and her technique na di mo talaga marinig sa iba. And also, maybe it's charisma or the way she carries herself (tapos ang ganda pa niya), but it's just one of those things na I really can't explain kaya I've been such a huge fan of hers for so many years.

+Sheena Javier I agree with you. There are many FIlipino singers na kayang pantayan ang taas ng boses ni Regine, but like what you said there's something in her voice that other belters cannot have. And I don't even what that is. I've watched her perform live, and God nangangain yung boses niya, considering she's already 45. :)

She wasn't thinking about the song whereas Morissette was overthinking. Regine's eyes and subtle facial expressions are conveying the message of her song. Morissette was understandably focused on how to sing as good as-or better than-Regine; the audience's expectation of her (Morissette) was high. Seeing Regine sing reminds me of Barbara Streisand: they both sing effortlessly and confidently. Each word flowing melodiously, and facial expressions not exaggerated or overthought, and overall performance not choreographed. Regine sang as tho she was speaking to the man this song was intended for. Morissette may be good, but not as good as Regine...yet. Given the time and chance, Morissette will hopefully one day prove she's worthy of the adulations Regine Velasquez has received in her entire career. Regine took years to hone-and still improve-her innate, God-given talent; Morissette is young, a product of extensive, intense training by Ryan C. Regine was natural, whereas many if not all current singers as young, budding artists were inspired by Regine and were aided by vocal coaches, voice-enhancing equipments and doodads, and the Internet, all of which were not available in Regine's era. With her dad's determination infused with discipline, Regine instead utilized what was readily available to her and other aspiring singers then and now: nature. Real talent is born, and that what Regine is. If Morissette is still around in, say 3-5 years, I sincerely hope she would be as genuinely good as Regine (it's hard to match, let alone surmount what Regine has accomplished). Congrats, Regine, and good luck, Morissette!

DBreaking Nutz copycat? if thats the case then each and every filipino singers are copycats. they live their entire life singing old western songs (whitney/celine/mariah) trying to prove they can belt. among of the more popular singers in phil who has originality is only KZ. other just karaoke to the original singer, probably throw in some higher notes to prove they can go higher, while straining their voice like shtt. LOL.

I don't think that Renz meant to compare a budding Diva to a legend. I think that he see's Morisette as a successor of Regine. You have to read between the lines lol. Even I, am still waiting for that Singer who can give me that WOW factor like I always feel with Regine. And for me right now, Morisette has that potential. It's been a long time since Regine passed her prime. And I really wish that a new breed will come!

This is what you call a clever criticism. Showcasing what were lacking in Morissette's performance, nevertheless, I can't deny that she was technically excellent. On the other hand, though I'm not a fan of Regine, I must admit, she was able to perfectly deliver the song - technically, and emotionally. I believe, Morissette will soar high! She is endowed with numerous abilities not just being a singer, but as a total performer - which immensely separates her from the common league of performers. Way to go Mori! Naniniwala ako sa galing mo! Ayeee

After kong panoorin kay Mori yung hindi sa ASAP, hinahanap-hanap ko pa rin ang version ni Regine. Iba kasi ang quality ng voice ni Reg. Napaka-angelic pero powerful pag birit part na. Yun ang wala sa ibang singers kasi more on power lang sila pero yung soothing and angelic voice waley.

This is such an epic performance. beautiful in all aspects. regines distinct powerful voice takes you to a higher level. napakalinis nyang kumanta and exudes genuine emotions. she's like a diamond so polished and brilliant.

Morissette Amon's failed performance in ASAP brought me here

Untouchable performance. Others for decades have tried to duplicate, none came close. Singers aka biriteras are missing the key element of Regine’s singing - story telling. Kids nowadays tend to over sing, mess with song arrangements, end songs octaves higher than usual just to get mileage.

At sa huli, yung tinanggap mo na kasi alam niyo na darating yung tamang oras at tamang lugar. Hindi yung galit, galit, galit all throughout. Lam niyo na.. 😆

Had the privilege of watching this live at the CCP for Mr. Cayabyab's 50th. It was the final number performed by a solo artist. Goosebumps galore ang moment na Ito. One of her best live performances. Other artists were watching on the sides as she performed.

How was it? I was really disappointed kasi ito yung time na nag away yung dalawang networks and for some reason eh cinut tong performance ni RV sa airing nila. If im not mistaken this was only shown in TFC. Grabe lang tlaga yung presence niya dito, truly a royalty, kasi finale talaga. Nakakamiss yung nag guguest siya sa abs-cbn specials tapos siya yung finale..

+hotstuff400, I watched from the bleacher section and from my vantage point some stars including bituin escalante watched from the sides as reg performed. After her performance there was a very long applause and if I remember right, the crowd was cheering loudly and some members of the crowd gave her a standing ovation. It was the most applauded number of the evening to think she came from the other station. She was the final solo spot number. they saved the best for last but had to cut her out of the free TV airing.

I agree. This is more enchanting and like you said HAUNTINGLY beautiful and iba yung vocal placement niya dito compared sa Regine Live na areglo ni Gerard Salonga. Yung version niya dito is more ballad-contemporary while very classical naman yung sa Regine Live. OMG i wish i was there to witness it. Nakakaproud lang talaga na siya talaga yung finale considering na hindi naman siya talent ng ABS-CBN but she is treated royalty. Nagperform na ang lahat, but the QUEEN will close the show. Sino kaya ang may clear or remastered copy nito.

I remember nag antay talaga ako nun when ABS aired this on their sunday special kahit antok na antok na ako and nakakatulog ako during tha airing pinipilit kong gumising not knowing na cinut na pala. so when the show ended without seeing this performance i thought nakatulog lang ako sa part niya but when i found out that it was cut i was so disappointed i wanted to write the network a letter. haha

Hayooooop yung decrescendo ni Regine on 4:37 tapos yung crescendo on 5:18. Tsk tsk amazing vocal control

This is how it should be done. Emotions + Power. Pag puro power lang, di ka uubra. And please, wag nang subukang higitan versions ni Songbird, surely you’ll fail. Learn Mori, learn. 😊

Outstanding voice and talent, great depth and range in interpretation of this song. I wonder if she has received the acclaim in the United States that she deserves and obviously has achieved in her own country.

Now I understand the message of the song. The way Ms. Regine delivered it was full of emotions without even doing extra movements. It was heartfelt. FLAWLESS!

The song is exceptional. The longing, the pain, the excitement, the love - all of these were masterfully and beautifully conveyed by Regine. The whispers, the nuances, yung pag-crescendo sa “because we knooooooow!” - damang-dama mo yung sumabog na emosyon. And yung line na, “Sometime, somewhere, we just have to be content with stealing glances...” Siyete! Ang sakit sakit! Hands down. This is the best song and best performance of Regine.

Her eyes are hauting. She owned-and still owns-this song.

I witnessed Basil's era of OPM and He definitely owned and still owns this song. Talk about class and depth. With his phrasing alone, Regine goes way behind. Listen to her 'wanting', and compare it to Basil's original. Please stop ruining Basil's classics.

Renzi I totally agree with you. Regine felt the song as if she lived the lyrics of the song and shared her life story through this wonderful performance. Superb!

Because she is that intelligent. Add to it her superb vocal control, which matches the emotion and the intensity required in each stage of the song's narrative. She has the tool (gift) and knows how to utilize it properly, without even trying hard.

That crescendo at 5:19 gets me every time.

Binigay na ni Ryan Cayabyab yung kanta na to kay Regine in a touching Facebook tribute post during the Songbird's 48th birthday. According to him, Basil will be always be the original but he never sang this song again so this song is rightfully Regine's now. Accdg to him, "Iba na talaga pag hinaplos ni Regine ang kanta." Ang daming Filipino songwriters na nagcomment ng OMG SAME WE FEEL YOU!!!! or something to that effect sa post ni Mr. C.

Yung last note na gustong i hit ni Mori is similar dun sa version ni Regine sa SAS. Tingin ko inspired doon yung way of singing niya sa ASAP prod.

2:57 at 4:49. Yung linyahan ni Regine na parang ibong nasasaktan at umiiyak... tagos!!! And she effectively used her high notes here as an exclamatory part of the story she is telling. It's always the little things with Regine.

Shucks. Kaya pala todo bigay si Ate Reg dito. In hindsight, love story nila ni Ogie ang song. Ito yung time na tagong tago at bawal sabihin ang relasyon nila! So happy that Regine's wish for a Sometime Somewhere with Ogie finally came true.

To me, this ranks near the very top of all her recorded performances. Fully connected registers, perfect phrasing, exquisite tone from the bottom to the top of her dynamic and vocal range and rich vocal expression. What more can you ask? This is absolutely stunning. And yet it is clear that the goal was never to impress (even though this was as impressive as any other performance). Care was given in ensuring that she “expressed” rather than merely “impress”.

yun tlga yun e. natumbok mo. her primary goal is conveying & expressing story & emotions but the performance ends up IMPRESSIVE.

Hindi mo maipaliwanag ang galing nya. 👏🏻 Sabi nga ni Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, "it took centuries to have another Regine Velasquez, pero hindi pa sigurado kung kasing husay ni Regine" ganun ka bilib si Mr. C kay Songbird...

Regine Velasquez has a deep, gentle, soft, high range voice. Complete package.. A great story teller... She's not like shouting in the highest part of the song ..

Rouel Pengson such technical precision... what she did was magical and is one of the hardest things to do with your vocals. Absolutely INCREDIBLE.
