This song reminds me of my best friend who died in 2016. I absolutely loved her and she was like my sister from another mother, if you will. We helped each other during so many hard times. Once I was at home and she called me panicking, because the breaks on her dads car had been cut and they completely lost control of the car. The last words I heard from her was "I'll see you soon" before she and her dad died in the crash. I've never cried so hard in my life, and 5 years later I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that moment. I miss you a lot leila.

This song never fails to make me cry since it reminds me of one of my aunts. Everytime I saw her she always had a smile for me, she even treated me like I was her grandchild alongside with my cousin. Last time I saw her was in my first communion, with almost 9 years old. Even though I had fun with some of my friends and cousins, I also spent time talking to my uncles and aunts, specially her. In like a year, almost two, she got really sick to the point that when we went to visit her to the hospital, my mom told me she was very ill. In like a week or so, the doctors told us that she got better and that they were gonna send her back to the hospital in my city. By the night, the doctors told my godmother (my aunt's daughter) that she suffered an infection in one of her lungs. When my mom told me that, I propose myself to pray for her and wish that she was well and that I could visit her. But by the morning, my nervous little self arrived to my parents bedroom and found my mother with tears in her eyes, and told me that my aunt was dead. I simply said "Oh" and turn around quickly and went to my room. I spent all morning crying. After that I felt a bit numb because everytime my family mentioned her, my cousin would be always crying, but not me and I didn't understand it until now. I miss her so much everyday and every time I hear this song it reminds me of when I was that bird trying to fly away and telling her all the amazing things that happened to me and now I'm stucked to that wire of memories of her. I really miss you auntie 🕊

"Theres nothing i wont understand" is such a good phrase. I think everyone Here can relate cuz in some Point we are too smart for ourselves. We all know when people lie, what they Most likely think, or the Outcome of Things are what is depressing cuz maybe If we wouldnt be that smart, we would have been happier and more hopeful in hopeless Situations.

This reminds me of my twin sister and I, we used to be so close growing up, we shared pretty much everything from our clothes, room, toys, etc. We promised that when we got a little older that we would get an apartment and never leave each others time but once we hit highschool it seems she wants a life without me and I don't really blame her but it just kinda hurts because she wants to let go and I don't want her to leave me just yet. Im scared to be alone.

This song to me feels like separation, or separation anxiety. The two birds are best friends in an "old life."One bird wants to go and live life, letting go of past emotions, and moving on, making new memories, wanting the other to come along. However, the bird staying on the wire doesnt want to let go of trauma, past emotions, and memories. Its where they feel they belong, and where they feel the safest. Neither wants to let go of the other, but I think they realize they have to, if they want to live the life they want.

A song hits different when it's your life.

This was me and my boyfriend. We both have had scarily similar childhood experiences. Only difference is I moved on, didn't let it hold me back, I "flew away." When we met he was still holding onto that wire, saying he wants to fly but grasping just as tight. I was able to slowly loosen his grip, and watching him fly is the greatest feeling in the world to me, I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to fly with him.

It's incredible how many meanings this song can have. Friendships, relationships, depression... I like to think that the birds are every single one of us, looking back in the past. We tend to look back at what we have lost and at the mistakes we made, instead of looking forward, thus failing to notice the opportunities moving away from us. We tell ourselves we won't think about it anymore, we'll keep going, but we always end up in the deep thought, thinking what better we could have done. So while a part of us wants to move on, there will always be this one part of us that is static, inert. "There's nothing I won't understand." I believe this to be our hindsight and the previous line to be our desperate willingness and desire to change our past. "I won't let go of your hand." yet again, the aforementioned desperate desire to stop the unstoppable wave of bad conscience. I'll be a better partner, just please come back to me. I'll be a better friend, so please don't leave me. I'll be a better person, so please just make everything good again. The meaning of the song may or may not be negative(it really depends on the point of view), but the song is beautiful anyway.

This song brings back painful memories… I had lots of friends who left either the country or my school- or aren’t friends with me anymore. this song has a special meaning to me, though I may not see it a lot it but does hold a special meaning in my heart and keeps becoming thought of even more for me.. it feels like the trauma me and my sister had to go through as we were younger, and even recently.. and now she’s moving away, making me have to stay here with the trauma without her comfort.. and having to deal with it myself. And the trauma, as my family is breaking… and is broken now

For me this song is about two friends. One grows, develops, learns something new, "tries to fly away". And another one doesn't want to change to the better, "stays" on that wire and doesn't want to leave the past and meet the future.

I noticed that this song slowly progresses into a more depressive and intense tone, and all I can say is that I feel like it matches the recent events in my life perfectly. The beginning of this song feels like when you first meet your best friend, and you spend so much time with them and laugh in the sun. You thought you were inseparable. But as time goes on, you realize that time has become your biggest enemy, and it slowly breaks you apart until you feel numb when they finally leave. This happened to me, except my best friend moved and I’m broken now :,)

You're not alone in that situation, I fear I have something similar happening to me with a very great friend of mine. But, I just keep trying to hold on to them, so I won't be alone again. Edit: Unfortunately, my suspicion was correct. I cannot express in words how much it hurt to lose them. It feels like a part of me is just... gone. I don't think I'll ever get over this, but I can at least try.

Idk how to explain it I tried to cut of our ties but she said that we r still best friends yet I don't feel like she consider me her best friend she made new friends in college yet I am feeling isolated and left out as we may not talk for months and I just do no what to do

The wire represents danger, somewhere you shouldn’t be because you’ll get shocked. I think its supposed to be depression, addiction, sickness, whatever you want. These two birds became close after being on the wire, one decides he was able to leave. But obviously the other one can’t move on, no matter how he tries. He’s tired, he’s comfortable there. And the other bird, despite wanting to leave, feels a necessity to stay with their friend despite them being ready to move on. Its actually quite sad because now neither of the birds can move on from this dangerous spot. You also have to realize the more they’re both on the wire together, the more it weighs down. Maybe its more bittersweet than anything. Btw it can be interpreted however you want, at its core its about one person who’s ready to move on with life and one person who’s too scared to leave the comfort of their status quo, even if its not good for them.

To the person who read this, It’s been hard for you, I know, and it makes me sad that you don’t see yourself in the way I see you. Sometimes they are things in life that cause us to loose ourselves, and the way you have is so unimaginable painful. I miss your smile, the way your eyes light up the whole room just by the sound of your laughter. I miss the way you accepted the way you look in the mirror without cursing yourself out about how ugly you look. I miss the way you didn’t think of yourself as a failure because everyone makes mistakes, we all have flaws and we all aren’t perfect. It’s painful to see that no one around you seems to see the pain trough your eyes, but, stranger, I do, I see how heavy your heart is and how comforting the sadness for you might be, how afraid your heart is of happiness because it disappears in the end, right? You don’t know how much impact you have in this world and it’s sad to see that your demons fight against you and want to take over you. Because you do make change, it’s something so simple and little that brightens up someone’s whole world, it can be a small smile from your lips, the way you look at things you’re passionate about, the way you make yourself eat even though it’s been hard for you lately, the way you zoom out and go in your own world, you brighten up my world by reading this, it means a lot to me that you’re here, existing, but I don’t want you to just exist, you deserve to feel alive. You deserve to get up in the morning and feel good about yourself. You deserve to feel something- to feel every damn second alive in this lifetime. As you can see, I say a lot of “I hope” because I have hope for you even if you don’t have it for yourself, I see hope in you even though you might want to give up. That’s why I hope you won’t see the world in darkness and will see it colorful again, I hope I will give you a glimpse of hope and make the world you see a bit colorful for today. My favorite color is yellow, and I hope the next time you see the color yellow you will think about my words. If someone left you than don’t blame yourself, don’t think you weren’t enough, don’t lower yourself for someone who couldn’t see the awesomeness in you. If you lost someone I am so sorry for your loss, they want you happy, I hope you don’t feel guilty or regret because you were there, you spend enough time with them, they want you to be happy. This reminds me of my dad's mom and dad, they loved each other dearly. Until 2008 my dad's mom died from kidney failure, my dad's dad (my other grandpa) became sadden a lot and sometimes angry because of this... But my dad's family helped him through the trauma. But in 2016, my other grandpa died by kidney failure. My dad's family all became sad and took 2 months to let go of the grief... If anything, I would do anything just to be with my family peacefully...

This reminds me of my grandmother, it's been a year since her passing. She loved birds. I believe she's watching me even now. Especially when the song says "There is nothing I won't understand" she always listened, had great advice and loved me. This song actually helped me grieve for her.

Gives me the same vibes as like a pair of friends while one has a really harsh disease. The ill one never tells and essentially hype's up the other one to pursue his future. Saying he'll always be right behind him to push him forward. So once the non-ill one leaves he does peacefully knowing that his friend made their dreams come true with the false hope of the dying ones promise.

This happily made me tear up, I like this saying it makes a good point in friendship 💚🌱

For me this song is about two siblings stuck in an abusive home life. One wanting to get away and heal and grow. The other not wanting to admit that it's not normal to be treated that way. The first sibling desperately trying to understand why they wouldn't want to leave and try and save them, convince them to go with them. But the second has grown too comfortable in the dysfunction and couldn't take the step to leave and heal. The first sibling tries to stay close for their sibling hoping they'll join, that they'll finally realize but they never do. So the first sibling finally flys away for their own sake. And is resented by the second sibling for leaving them behind in that place.

this song makes me cry all the time cuz it reminds me of my nanny who died on 4 of July 2023 of cancer and she was like my mom to me.

This song reminds me of one of my best friends and me, I lost her in February due to a car accident and the same happened to my brother. I've been so mentally unstable recently. That one wire is the one keeping me from going insane. My fear of losing the people I love has grown more and more and My anxiety disorder uses this as a huge advantage. Edit: I wanted to thank you all, I'm getting better as time moves slowly! Thanks for your support and kindness. 💓

To anyone in the future who ever finds this comment: There was a girl I fell in love with. Loved her more than anything. She was my first true love and I was certain that she was the one I wanted for the rest of my life. While I was ready to leave behind my past and let her be a part of my life, and myself a part of hers, I slowly realized she was the “bird on the wire,” and was too afraid to take the jump out of her comfort zone. I made a lot of mistakes, too, and our bond dissolved over time because of it. I think she hates me now, and it hurts knowing that. Even more so when i remember the special bond we had before. I don’t think there’s any hope of repairing it, but I guess time will tell. (Please don’t judge this comment too harshly, it’s 5AM and I’m emotional lol)

I know how all of you feel, I had a friend a couple years ago. As soon as I hit 4th grade, I switched schools. I couldn’t figure how to contact him on any social media…

This just makes me … I don’t even know if it’s sad happy or grateful

This song just hits different for me It reminds me when I was a little kid and my family were all together and I never understood how bad things got after I miss all of the times I was just with my family and friends and I know now that you need to appreciate ever moment you have.

A lot of people interpret this song in different ways, but to me it feels like two lovers who have very different personalities and cannot follow each other's dreams.

This hits different when the person you used to love much leaves you behind

This song makes me think alot about me and my brother, we both went through so much. I was able to find somebody who has helped me heal from my trauma and I am forever grateful for him, but watching my brother stay behind stuck with what happened is hard. I hope one day he too can heal from what we went through.

This reminds me of my cousin and I, we used to always talk and were practically inseparable. But over the years we both became more recluse. My cousin more so, I asked her how she was and she didn’t say anything. Its almost like she’s looking towards her mum (my aunt) to speak for her. She’s so quiet it’s ridiculous. We spoke about moving away and how I’d move in with her and her husband, I’d help with her kids. We made it all up and practically guaranteed it. But I don’t want that life anymore. We always played together, always spoke together. I just miss how it used to be. My aunt (cousins mum) is now a religious freak and read a bible at my birthday. She doesn’t celebrate Christmas, birthdays, Easter etc. Claiming they’re ‘pagan holidays’ and she’s anti-covid I believe. But I always looked up to her. She was ‘the cool aunt’. I just want things to go back. I went around last Saturday and my parents were worried she would preach to me. But thank god she didn’t. I just miss them.

I don’t understand people who don’t celebrate birthdays because they are “pagan” holidays. It’s only as pagan as the one who’s birthday it is imo.

I’m listening to this crying my eyes out.

For me, since I have DID, this song is about how one part of me is happy and wants to go out into the world, while another can only see the past. They want the other, who doesn't know or have experienced the trauma, to go out and be happy, even saying they'll come to. But they just can't do it, it hurts to much, their whole existence hurts to much.

That replay button looking REALLY good rn (But, more seriously, the song can have two meanings, One being about trauma and trying to let go of things, but the other being, well, darker. That being an abusive relationship, the one "Staying on the wire" is emotionally manipulating the other one, and trying to hold the other one completely to themself)
