It's par for the course. Systemic racism has only moved it's focus. Black men have led investment teams as the highest bidders for multiple major network tv stations as well. Keeping black men out of ownership stake in industry is a big part of the game. Michael Jackson was potentially killed for maneuvering majority ownership at Sony music America.

this is crazy and sad. To prevent one of baseball's greatest players from owning the team he helped create a dynasty with is strange. MLB wants diversity on the field not at the ownership level and it is sad. If baseball doesn't think Reggie Jackson is better for baseball and the A's than John Fisher then baseball (corporate baseball) is a perfect example of systemic racism. I hope Reggie doesn't stop talking about this to force baseball to deal with it.

What has happened to the A’s and is happening to the team is a disgrace
And in addition to Reggie Jackson, I read another article that Joe Lacob tried to buy the A's back in 2005 but was also rejected. So Lacob bought the Warriors instead and helped turn them into champions. From that article, and what Reggie Jackson said in another interview, the reason why they were turned down was because John Fisher's partner, Lewis Wolff, was an old fraternity buddy of Bud Selig's. Fast forward to 2016, Wolff sold his 10% share of the A's to Fisher.

I had no idea that Reggie Jackson made an offer to buy the A's and it is a shame that Bud Selig did not even submit Reggie's proposal. Reggie would have been a great owner of the A's and most importantly, would have kept them in Oakland.

The A’s leaving Philly was the mistake. Reggie grew up a Philadelphia A’s fan in Pennsylvania
one side of the story In his Schott’s 2022 book “Long Schott”, he wrote: “Reggie Jackson had a group that he said wanted to buy the team, with Brian Shapiro and other investors, and said they were willing to pay $25 million more than what the Fishers were offering. But by the time Reggie contacted me, we had the deal in place. It would have been great and historic for Reggie to be part of the ownership group, as the first African American owner. I had a good relationship with Reggie, having retired his No. 9 a year earlier. But I had to commit to the deal with the Fishers and baseball and couldn’t chase the last dollar.”

From the very day that he replaced Fay Vincent, I had a feeling that Selig was underhanded and sneaky.>
Like the amount of public funding available in Oakland as opposed to LV (I know there's some other factors as well), in the words of Jon Lovitz's character in A League of Their Own, "Well, then, this would be more. Wouldn't it?" I find it just sad that Selig had the A's sold to Fisher for less because he was buddy buddy with Wolff, yet they weren't buddy buddy enough to overturn the territorial rights to SJ. It was because it fell into that really un-sweet spot that we're now stuck with the worst owner in MLB
I always associated Reggie Jackson with the World Series rings, the candy bar, and the rest of the glitz that was part of his success on the field. I am delighted that now Reggie is speaking out against the institutional racism that everyone ignored or denied for so long. He clearly is refusing to have his silence bought. Thank you, Reggie. And I am sorry for what this nation's power structure did to you.
Selig kept A’s out of San Jose
Another example showing how bad Bud Selig was and is. Was he corrupt?
It would've been poetic justice to have this man partially own the team that he helped make history with. Imagine John "Baby Gap" Fisher being shown favoritism over a legend like Mr. Reggie Jackson who actually played for this team SMH
Reggie Jackson had the most powerhouse swing I have ever seen, he was a beast at the plate!!!
Bud selig and rob manfred ruined the A’s
It’s great that he put it on the record. The silence of MLB is notable. But baseball fans should take note: the owners don’t care about you. You’re only the customer. They’ll do what they want to do and you’ll buy it because it’s the only product in town. I will probably always follow baseball. But I’m so glad I didn’t bite on the latest mlbtv offer. No doubt about it. MLB SUCKS
I remember growing up as a kid , in the early 1970's, and looking forward to every summer, when all of us kids would go to the Oakland Coliseum to watch Reggie and the A's play, even before their first World Championship. Reggie's story is a reminder of what America truly is. It does not matter what you have done for Baseball and all of sports. Baseball is racist to its core , when it comes to Black Americans. I noticed it by the time I was about 15 years old, then as a fan of Baseball. I have not been a fan of it since about 1989. Never watched the sport again, to this day over 30 years.
That wouldve been dope if he bought the As... especially considering he led their dynasty in the early 70s 💯💯
It's not only going on in MLB and other sports racism is institutionalized and occur in many forms and fashions. What a shame how they treated Mr. Reggie!
Reggie has been ahead of the curve in so many areas. His early push for SGC grading transitioned the industry. I don't like what that has become over time, but it was Reggie that got out in front of it. That is just a tiny example where we see his skills and insight transcending the field. A shame we still have so much collusion
Signed by the Kansas City A's, became a star with the Oakland A's and locked out by men with no conscience. if Reggie had been sold the team he would have worked out something with the city of Oakland. John Fisher has no shame.

Hard to take him serious , calls racism on everything. Loved him as a player though. Also just cuz u wanna buy a team doesn’t mean they will sell, most potential buyers get turned down.
