Regenerate Ojai Narrated by Laura Dern

Big Picture Ranch and Environmental Working Group (EWG) Present, Regenerate Ojai, a Rebecca and Josh Tickell film. This 30 minute-long documentary film which is narrated by Academy Award Winner Laura Dern, exposes shocking truths about pesticide exposure in Ojai, a small Southern California town located in the agricultural county of Ventura, California. Drawing from data obtained by EWG from the Ventura Country Agricultural Office, the film shows that in Ventura County over 5.7 million pounds of toxic “Danger and Warning Label” pesticides are sprayed each year. These pesticides are sprayed next to residences and schools as well as near other public areas and pose a significant public health risk. People interviewed in the film recount their experiences after exposure from pesticide drift in Ojai and Ventura including pets dying, cancers, blindness and birth defects. Data from the University of California system shows significant correlations between these pesticides and animal and human epidemiological issues. The film calls for a public pesticide notification system via text (as used by other state and county agencies), for farmers to investigate switching to Organic growing methods, and for schools to use their buying power to buy directly from local and organic and regenerative farmers thus safeguarding the health of students, teachers and staff.

6:43 is so relatable/upsetting! I lived in old town Camarillo, California (about 20 minute drive from Ojai) for 4 years with my family. It was within walking distance and also surrounded by agriculture. My dog had 4 intense seizures *that we know of* during that time. Our dog has never had seizures anywhere else we've lived. We also lived with her in Tennessee for 4 years and Florida for 3 years. I wonder sometimes if living surrounded agriculture played a role in her seizures since she only ever had seizures in Camarillo and it's a documented area of toxic pesticide use.

My sister ran a very popular Dog Grooming shop, for many years in Ojai. Who began using what was supposed to be non-toxic to pets and people many years ago to eradicate fleas, She always ate a veggie diet always eating "organic" foods that was supposed to be healthy. She also lived near orange groves and other Ojai agriculture. She came down with parkinsonian type tremors and had to retire and sell her business due to hand tremors. Plant toxins themselves are used to kill pests and make pesticides. Even "organic" pesticides and herbicides combine various plant toxins to kill insect and herb pests. Recent Rat studies have shown that plant toxins-Lectins traveling up the Vagus nerve can go into their brain and give the rats Parkinsons. When consulting with Attorneys who are advertising about Paraquat causing Parkinsons have so far not accepted my sister as a client.

thank you for sharing. There is increasing evidence that RoundUp and its many generic copies are highly implicated in causing Parkinsons and many other degenerative diseases and cancers.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this film and bringing attention to this beyond important issue facing Venture County and almost every agricultural location (aka almost everywhere!). I will share this with others! What can we do to stop this?

education!, and i mean from young age on learn ppl whats, what. chemicals in themself aren't bad, it just becomes a hazard when they are mishandeld. humans on average live longer because of chemicals, nature produces toxins too and breaks it down again. the trick is to find the right chems and balances without harming lives.

If only the natives were allowed to keep their land. I can only imagine how healthy the land would be. (I’m not trying to be racists I’m a small percentage native) but it seems like their culture was so much more respectful.
