Today, I was in the system furthest to the left on the galaxy map, and up above Alpha Century to the left. I was doing a mission from a mission board (going after some pirate leader). The Starborn have been following me around for weeks now....because I refused to build the Armillary. I keep all the artifacts (wherever they are). Can't find them in my inventory, but I know I have them. The game keeps wanting me to enter the final stage of the Unity mission, but I refuse. So in that mission mentioned above, I saw one of the Starborn ships land in the distance, and I decided to run there with Sarah and get some selfies with the ship in the back ground......like I always do...just to piss off the Starborn guys....ha..ha...ha. Well, this time I was able to access the ship. So I got in the pilot's seat and took it too the Den.....the Ship Engineer at the Den made some funny comments about my ship....LOL. Anyway, It sucked compared to my modified Star Eagle. My weapons, Shields, Reactor, Engine Power, and Cargo are all much higher rated. Even the Value on my Star Eagle is over 50,000 Creds. The Starborn III ship has a value of under 9,000 creds.....pathetic. No wonder they cannot defeat me when they attack. My shields are at over 2700. They can't even get through them. I lock on to the Starborn ships and take them out, sometimes they attack me 4 against 1.....cheaters go down anyway, bwaah, ahh, ahhhhhh.

no, i think it is precisely what it appears to be. It wasn't actually created for us, it was created to allow "them" to do exactly what we can do with it. what I wonder is who are "they" and where did they go, and is there a way to use the Unity differently than we use it. Seems odd how we enter the next universe at a time equivalent to our past, why can't we jump into the next universe at some other point in time, or even at the same time we left this one. If we are forever doomed to just repeat the same moment in time the Unity seems considerably less appealing. to be ABLE to do that is great, to HAVE to do that is less than desirable. and maybe the biggest question that come to my mind while playing "why was it disassembled and hidden away?"

Definitely seems like something you have to plan for from the beginning in order to not ruin the value proposition, but knowing ahead of time ruins the surprise instead. You lose basically everything you've worked for thus far, the characters who'd care "pretend" you aren't Starborn until it comes up again, and nobody else cares anyway. Once you've figured out and done the True Ending after your first NG+ (Yeah, they pulled an Undertale on a game with an average 1st playthrough of 100 hours), the story's emotional stakes hollow out for successive attempts. You can chose to skip it in the Unity, but even if you chose not to there's a 15% chance for every trip through Unity that it'll skip for you anyways using an "Easter Egg start" that just hands you all of the Constellation artifacts from word go. The special suit upgrades each of the first 10 times you NG+, but you start feel functionally invincible by upgrade 6. The special ship upgrades too, but unlike the suit, it never becomes more useful than building your own. Only a couple of the Starborn powers available upgrade enough to reward successive trips, and the two most useful ones past NG+6 (respawn all resources in range, and collect all resources in range, both become effectively planet wide by their 10th level) have a solid chance of not showing up on NG+ anyway.

  • @viralarchitect

Since you can go back as a starborn and say "You say that every time." I think it's clear that this is the nexus of consciousness. A version of everyone took the plunge and a version of them didn't. The ones that didn't are all still here and to outside observers, it looks like you all just grav jumped for no reason. You have to see it for yourself to know what it means. It's about as close to literally seeing God as I think anyone is realistically going to get. EDIT: It reminds me of the movie "Contact" where the main character sees her father and doesn't understand. But he tells her that this massive machine is just the first step, and in time we (humanity) will take another. So, it may not even be God, but an illusion created by an Alien or hell, even our future selves sending the artifacts back in time. We know they can affect quantum states when examined at high temperatures (a la the quest "Entangled").

Unity and multiverses create a significant problem while storytelling, the stakes are almost entirely lost and nothing feels “real”, so I hope walking away from unity would be the canon end

  • @calijack2006

Because it’s an alternate universe where events happen differently. Some of your companions could just be dead or one of them could be a potted plant that’s the beauty of new game plus you’re essentially traveling across the Multiverse, where things could happen differently or be the same.

For instance, I had a new game plus experience where I went to constellation only to find everybody dead with Sarah, blaming me calling me a monster, and everything only to see an evil version of me walk out and tell me that he pretty much slaughtered everybody and how he went to different universe is where he was nice and shit and decided he wanted to be evil. Yeah shits crazy man.

My first playthorugh, im not gonna ng+ Ive been mostly a good citizen and i have been collecting most in game items. I dont want to leave my progress and its been more of a testbed and a run to try things. I just want to see the story. My next playthrough. I plan to make a character to take through the NG+ content of the game. I will be a ruthless pirate giving shit and taking none. And i wont be picking every single thing up as i go. I will steal and loot what i need and essentially speed through campaign to ge tto the final ng+ without soending tooo much time. The problem with starfield currently isnthat the karger and larger your file gets and the longer youve played. The more and more likely youre going to be to encounter bugs and glitches, even game killing ones. I dont want that for my first character. I plannon leaving the mainquest unfinished before the starborn arrive as i still want cool ships to land on moons over starborn enemies and ships im not meant to steal. The reason i want to pirate is inplan to take what i want, and wont have a companion with me who judges my every action. Its annoying enough they always badger on about how much you're carrying.

I (A female Professor/UC Vanguard & Sysdef/Freestar Ranger & United Colonies Native) would rather stay in my own universe with my husband Sam Coe (A Ex Freestar Ranger) and Stepdaughter Cora Coe along with my parents and companions Aka my best friends than going on endless scavenger hunt for artifacts and letting power corrupt me 💯.

personally i feel like they should rework the unity storyline and specifically the towers/artifacts. Theres a huge HUGE missed opportunity of "the music" being a very important mystery of the world, but instead they just made it nothing more than a SFX that eludes to nothing more than "the artifacts seem to resonate and give us powers", each tower could have been a piece of some obscure puzzle that we could have spent the quest line slowly uncovering and learning more about this cosmic harmony that seems to lead to the center of everything. but no we got shiny metal sheets and towers that have 0 narrative and basically no point to the game since the powers are also incredibly underwhelming gameplay wise. literally everything else got love but the main story concept lol

In post-launch interviews they've talked about having big long-term plans for DLC. I don't think it's a missed opportunity, it's a hook for long-term storytelling. Like if the game were a TV show this is the first season, and major mysteries remain unresolved.

Entering into another universe is pointless. The Pilgrim, who was Starborn himself, was right. Staying and building something, embracing compassion, making things better for yourself and others, is more sustaining and fulfilling. And its more satisfying. Chasing more and more power and knowledge simply for the sake of self is a road to nowhere.
