Reflections on the Indigenous media fellowship 2022

At Insightshare we specialise in participatory forms of media to affect change. Participatory video is much more than a film as an end product, it is a process in which absolute agency is held collectively by the local community, to reflect critically on the issues that surround that community, to tell the stories that need to be told according to that community.
Authenticity and accuracy of information, as well as autonomy over the narrative is achieved through participatory approaches like ours, as opposed to teams of film makers from other continents extracting and reappropriating cultures.
That is why we take the time to grow trustful relationships with local communities, to sensitively facilitate the participatory processes that we've carefully crafted for over 23 years, and to support the distribution of this media and its voices to reach audiences as far and wide as possible. That is what communities deserve, and that is what our global family needs as part of mitigating the plethora of environmental, ecological, social, political, economic, and spiritual challenges our world faces.

I have watched every single video on the Maasai and loved the 'truth' story. I have two Maasai gentlemen that I met during my trip in Zanzibar, and their culture is just breathtaking...I have so much respect for their way of living, their sustainable view of the earth, and truly believe their view and way of preserving nature is a powerful way that the wor😍ld can learn from! Thank you for sharing these videos...
