Reflections on the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park

Beaufort, S.C.'s downtown waterfront was a 'derelict mess' when Henry C. Chambers was sworn in as mayor of his hometown in 1969. Over the next decade, he led the effort to design and scrape together funding for a new park to replace a dilapidated wharf. Today, Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park is a destination for tourists and locals alike. In one of his final interviews, Chambers reflects on the park that transformed the city.

Thanks ever so much Jeff and to the Beaufort History Museum for helping to bring this forward. Henry was a close and personal friend and the benefactor of many individuals and organizations within our community. He is missed by many but left an indelible mark on his home town and the state of South Carolina..

Thanks Jeff Kidd for doing this video. Henry Chambers was a class act, a walking encyclopedia of Beaufort's history.
