    When you say apply several coats - how long do you leave each coat after application? And is there any need to wipe away with cloth or brush in or anything like that?

    @@abitaroot Sorry, I was really just giving Scott a high-five on his video. When I say WAIT, I mean you spray the No Blush (Super, Extra, etc.) and leave it to dry/cure - don't touch and don't overspray the No Blush product. And definitely don't wipe with a cloth. If the spot doesn't go away, you are going to need to strip it away because too much of any retarder will make the finish soft, impact the sheen, and makes it worse. I have learned this the hard way with cloudy finishes after apply too much retarder and No Blush. I am not a chemist, but this is what I understand the product is doing. The product is activating the finish again, opening the molecules for moisture to escape and then melting the finish back to its self. It shouldn't impact your sheen, which is a significant advantage for touchups. I think it's a formulation that includes lacquer solvent/retarders with probably some extras. You can achieve similar results by misting above your project with lacquer solvent/retarders. Still, the can of No Blush is easier to use for smaller repairs, and it's formulated to address blushing. I hope this helps!

    Hi! Thanks for the content! I'm refinishing a MCM dresser. Just bought some mohawk dead flat precat lacquer. We're worried about blushing (we're not professionals, just refinishing on our patio).I was hoping you could help answer 2 questions. 1) Do you spray only the blushed spots or all over the precat lacquer? 2) Do you spray in between coats of precat or just at the end?

    just spray the damaged area. Not in between. Use this only IF you have a white ring. Might take a number of coats, sometimes, I'll coat the entire top at the end to equalize the sheen. and or I might top coat with lacquer after. good luck

I don't think we waiting long enough between the color and clear coats (end of class and had to rush the finishing) and we got a lot of blush on the sides and back but not on the top. It's been years now and wonder if using the blush remover on it now will help or just make a mess of it. I've just tried to ignore it on what otherwise was a perfect guitar build. Thanks

  • @imaginegrove

    Sorry but this won't work on water based finishes. The idea is that you need to soften the finish and allow the moisture (white blush) to release. Water based finishes, once cured (cross linked into a polymer) can't be dissolved. Don't hate the messenger. :) You'll have to sand it out. Hope this helps

It's fine after that consecutive applications of sealer. But when we apply gloss lacquer as a final coat, there are blushing on some areas. They looked to be permanent now. I don't think we have that kind of product in our local stores here in our Province in the Philippines. Is there any other way or ways to cure the blushing? Thanks a lot.

    Rez, Depends on the finish, it is for solvent base finished, typically lacquer. I have had success on conversion varnishes but it takes many coats. It also depends on how deep and long the blemish is. In short, works all the time on the right finish, 90% over-all. For the money it is worth a try. Certainly beats refinishing.

  • @mvred100

    @mvred100

    4 жыл бұрын

    Read my note above - you might have put to much on and not waited long enough between coats. Also, if it doesn't work right away, your problem is bigger and the top should be stripped and refinished. It will save you a lot of pain if you do that. When you say furniture polish, that brings up another point of caution. If there's any wax, silicone polish, oil on the surface of your desk before applying any product - you need to remove it first. I recommend to always clean (put on a clean rag and wipe down the areas you will be spraying) the area you are working on with naphtha or mohawk's wax wash. This applies anytime you are doing touchup work. If you don't know if there's a contaminate on the piece your working on, assume there is and clean it off with one of those products.
