Refilling Thermacell Butane Bottles And Pads for Bowhunting Mosquito Repellant

Ойын-сауық

Its bug season down here in Florida so I wanted to share with you a little video on how I refill my Thermacell butane cartriges and also filling my repellant pads. Its so easy. The pyrethrin that we use is almost the exact stuff thermacell uses. The cost of buying new ones from the store is just way too much especially when the cost to refill them is so cheap. thank you all for watching and good luck hunting this year

Ha! So I noticed that amazon had a video explaining that the pads mimic the chrysanthemum and did some research and found Pyrethrin is probably what thermacell uses on their pads and did a quick KZread search and found you! That’s awesome that you have confirmed what I was thinking about trying. Thank you!

Just get you a piece of coaxial cable you probably have laying around your house.. Strip it to the metal and cut you a small piece of it.. Just the wire in the middle.. Put it in the butane can tip part and cut it till it is pushing in the valve on your thermacell bottle.. You don't want to long of a cable wire in store butane bottle it won't seal with the thermacell bottle as you push it in..

If you check the MSDS sheet that Thermacell is required to provide; its Federal law, btw, the active ingredients of the pads are Pyrethrum at 22.8% and 8.4% petroleum distillates. Likely the petroleum distillate is so the ads contents can be combusted, not the pad itself. I'm not sure smoking the pad in whatever solution of pyrethrum won't cause the pads to burn or at least singe, if that makes any difference.

There are Chinese equivalents of this concept that also heat similar pads by plugging them into your USB power bank. I found that one of them produces more heat that electronic hand warmers at a fraction of the price. Do you think the Thermacell could also do double duty as a handwarmer to leave in your pocket without the pad in the winter while ice fishing, etc.?

About a year ago I did an experiment to see if this concept would work or not. It turned out to be feasible to use the Thermacell as an auxiliary heat source in the winter. Due to the size of it, it's more convenient to put it in a pouch and carry it around your neck on a lanyard. I did a video and placed it in the handwarmers playlist of our YT channel. You've got a product that is 1% Pyrethrin, 10% Piperonyl Butoxide (which is just a synergist/adjuvant right?) so your 1 to 5 solution is going to result in a .166% active. I saw another video where the product used is Permethrin 10%, also with a suggested ratio of 1 to 5. This solution would have 10 times the active ingredient. I believe these two chemicals are closely related, but I am not a chemist. Both are Pyrethroids. I am not questioning the effectiveness of Permethrin vs Pyrethin, but I am questioning how to make a solution that will be effective in the thermacell. Thermacell are pieces of crap for making these the way they do. They could all be rechargeable batteries for the heat system and then they could all be the higher end capsules that you could easily fill with the liquid. Such pieces of crap creating a sales scheme and dependency system around it that also creates all this trash.
