No fear! Get comfortable being smashed by waves.

This could be why waveski failed as a spectator sport.

Has this sport fallen so far? This type of surfing would not have produced a finalist in the 90's. Left alone a world champion.

Sorry mate, who are you ??? If you have watched any waveski surfing in the past few years the level has risen hugely along with board shapes and gear available. Yes the sport may not be as big as it was in the 80s but the top guys are defiantly doing stuff that people couldn't do in the past decades .

@@reesduncanjnr5928 Yea right. Remember when surfing was al about: The surfer who surfed the biggest or best waves for the longest functional distance in the most power full area of the wave, shall be deemed the winner? Remember when we used our rails to turn? Remember when a radical bottom turn was a maneuver? You are definitionally in the control of you board, but not of your wave. Go and count the number of times you flick your board when doing a top turn, just to see you lose control and flounder down. Many times losing the face of the wave. Go and count that. Please do. Then imagine doing a high speed down-the line, with an aerial top turn, continuing on the face of the wave. Don't you think that would look more impressive? I have seen you doing it, so you can. But mostly you opt to display the underside of your board as a cheap trick. Seeing the wave disappears into the sunset. That is sad. Don't you agree?

Deon Van der Westhuizen sorry mate who are you ???, this his Rees’s sons KZread account not Rees who this footage is of. I bet if you spoke to any waveski surfer with half a brain which you “don’t”.... they would say that my old man has the most radical, smooth and aggressive rail to rail waveski surfing there is. Those bottom flicks take a lot of control and power to pull off which you wouldn’t know. You obviously need to get your glasses checked mate as there was several clips in this short video that had a in the pocket turn, top turn then a air..

@@reesduncanjnr5928 Yep you are right. There are some good surfing. But I bet you did not count the number of times these flicks cost him control or the wave. Go ahead, count them. Just maybe there is room for improvement.

Deon Van der Westhuizen yep 0 bar one that he didn’t land that massive air. Which at a world level sometimes you have to go big. you have got to understand that most of the waves he surfs here in Australia are heavy, shallow, inconsistent beach breaks that close out as per along footage taken in Spain. Most of the time you are racing to just make the section. There is always room for improvement. But you can’t say that waveski surfing hasn’t improved over the decades. Just watch the utube video take a seat.
