Reeling in a Monster at Fish Lake, Utah Memorial Weekend 2024
My wife hooked into the fish of a lifetime at Fish Lake this memorial weekend. Fishing from shore, with a Kastmaster on 6lb line, she thought she had a snag until it pulled back. After working the poor little reel to its max she was able to land this 34 inch 20 pounder which we thought was a Splake. What is a Splake? It is a hybrid from a male Brooke Trout and a female Lake Trout. However this looks more like a Lake Trout

Yeah if this was a splake it would have been a state record or close

Yeah the more I have looked at it after the fact it seems to look more like a Lake vs Splake. Interesting how many others that were watching all thought it was a Splake too. Next time I need to be the one to catch it!
Goin with my kids this weekend... something like that would pull them right in. 😆

Good luck! I kept picturing my wife letting the pole slip and it taking it in. She did awesome!

@@Wesleyastonphotography We had a blast, mostly 13"-15" Rainbows. But I got a 20" Splake that weighed 2lbs 9oz. Not bad for my first Splake.! Take care!
