It is something to think about how there have been very few big budget productions, whether television or film, on the American Revolution. I think some people think that all there is to tell is the story of the Founding Fathers. Personally, I think a great story of the American Revolution lies in stories like that of April 19th, 1775. That is a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and actively shaping history. I think there are still stories to tell, beautiful and complex stories, from the revolution following the lives of the average everyday colonist/Continental/British soldier. These are the kinds of stories I would love to see on film. Great job highlighting this film!👍
This is one of the movies that got me into history as a child. Had not seen it in so long. Thanks for doing this!
As your president is currently visiting Ireland (and delivering some marvellous gaffes on our TV news channels as I type this) I am reminded of the one thing that unites the United States and the Republic of Ireland - both countries started revolutionary wars to free themselves from a free country, and yet both more recently wanted the UK to remain in the Fourth Reich! You can't get more Irish than that... April Morning is an interesting movie, I see from IMDb it's a TV movie, which is probably why I'm not familiar with it in the UK, I will have to watch out for it if it's shown here or track it down on DVD. It's an awesome cast - haven't seen Robert Urich in decades - I remember him as Robert B. Parker's Boston PI - Spenser For Hire, on TV in the 1980s. Great commentary from the Jarrad/Jared twins!

my fifth great grandfather turned out with the militia from New Hampshire in April 1775. They marched on Concord, but missed the fighting there and continued on to Cambridge to join up with the continental army. His enlistment was actually on my b-day. and he was an "8 month man" returning home at the new year. He took ill and passed in early 1776.
This was really interesting. I grew up in Lexington, around the corner from the Hancock-Clarke House, and I've always been interested in the history. There may have been no Lexington Minutemen, but that didn't stop us from naming our school sports teams and local newspaper after them.
Jared gave us a fantastic tour while he was still working at Gettysburg. We love him!

Love this!! I’m from New England and I’m always excited to see our history come to life for people who don’t get to experience it. Thank you both for the great job in reviewing this movie. I read the book and did see the movie. Recommend both to everyone who hasn’t read or seen either of them. 👍🙂
I had to read that book in middle school. Now a decade (or more) later one of the members of my regiment had a viewing of April Morning Last Saturday.
An author I've enjoyed, Howard Fast, this movie is from his book April Morning. I read the book either in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The storyline to the movie and book are similar.
Great video! I had never even heard of this movie. I look forward to more videos with Park Rangers, who are much underappreciated.

Lol...my man hiding behind a wall taking a potshot at the Brits while telling everyone else to hold their ground out in the open. Fookin beautiful 😅
great video! Yes, it's always July or August when they film any movie or documentary about Lexington/Concord. Kind of drives me nuts! Being from Mass, April 19th is basically winter with a few small buds and flowers. The woods are still naked.
i love this movie watch it every now and then. i hope your mercy full. see you at the end
Wow, the knowledge Jarrad has of the time period really made this a great video👍

Nice work team!
Great to see both of you! Great episode!!
Grew up on Shenandoah. I can still identify it by the opening score. Charlie Anderson Prayer of Thanksgiving: "Lord, we cleared this land. We plowed it, sowed it, and harvested. We cook the harvest. It wouldn't be here and we wouldn't be eating it if we hadn't done it all ourselves. We worked dog-bone hard for every crumb and morsel, but we thank you just the same, Lord, for this food we're about to eat. Amen."
I read "Drums Along the Mohawk" by Walter Edmonds when I was a kid. I was gripped by the story of settling Western New York. The description of the Battle of Oriskany was haunting. The Henry Fonda movie would be a good subject for a video.

I agree. This film would be a great subject for "Reel History."
This is a very good view and review. Regarding from 41:30, indeed, a lot of the British soldiers had vested interest to defend the territory in favour of the Crown. The Seven Years War took a lot to defend the Americas from other Continental Powers. You could go as far as to say it was a full blown World War involving all the major powers - versus England and Prussia in this respect. A lot of blood and money/resources and map re-writing went down after that. Certainly many soldiers and British citizens would consider the Americas their home.
Excellent job Jarred!
Love this. Finding out things. I didn’t know
British army patrols would not have been comprised solely of officers. A squad size would have probably been led by a Sergeant, with a couple of officers in overall charge of all patrols. The movie does a good job of showing the tension and nervousness of the militia men of Lexington.
This is going to be a great part of your you tube. Love it. Keep up the good work. Waiting for your next live question sessions. And bring popcorn.

Perfect timing! Watching this as I do my NPS onboarding paperwork. Next do "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and ask the Yellowstone Ranger how well Mammoth Hot Springs represents the planet Vulcan.
Need to find this film. Havnt seen it since I was a little kid.

This is great! I read the book years ago and watched the movie. I like it in spite of the inaccuracies in part because there are so few movies about the American Revolution. Is Johnny Tremain coming at some point?
Why not read the actual novel, "April Morning" by Howard Fast? (I looked in here because I DID read it as a teenager, and didn't know about the movie). The casting of Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Urich was GREAT.

Caught my ear as well.
Personally, I'd rather like to see a film about the Battle of Oriskany, which was fought by the Tryon County militia under the command of General Nicholas Herkimer marching to relieve the siege of Fort Stanwix; and the besieging force under Barry St Leger, who were making their way down the Mohawk Valley to link up with General John "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne. Herkimer was essentially goaded into marching into an ambush (he wanted to scout out the far side of the creek before crossing, his immediate subordinates said that he was delaying because of his family's sympathies toward the crown), and he was wounded in the leg in the opening minutes of the battle. He had himself posted up under a tree and continued to direct the battle as best he could. Anyway, I just think it'd be an interesting tale to tell.
