Reduction Firing my Gas Pottery Kiln - ASMR Edition
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here's this week's ASMR edition of my kiln packing, reduction firing, and finally unpacking video. If you'd prefer to watch the narrated video, which is a little longer and goes into FAR more detail about each small step, you can find it here: • Packing, Reduction Fir...
Timestamps:
0:00 - Introduction
0:30 - Packing the kiln
1:11 - Using yellow iron ochre to save old pots I don't like
8:12 - The finished kiln pack
8:19 - THE FIRING BEGINS
10:04 - Initiating the reduction atmosphere
13:21 - Ending the firing and crash cooling
14:49 - Opening the kiln (two days later)
15:57 - Unpacking
19:45 - Sanding the bases of the vessels
21:12 - Popping lids off jars
Wadding recipe: 50% china clay, 50% coarse alumina hydrate, mix powders and then add water very slowly as the mixture tends to turn too watery very easily. So better to take it slow. Once it has a clay like consistency you can wedge it up and store it in an air tight container.
Thanks as always for watching!

What a wonderful treat finding this moment in time. Turned off the morning news, made my quad espresso, and watched this in its entirety as the sun rose over the horizon. Any chance we can have an ASMR from you every morning? Thanks
In love with that dark metallic glaze. As well as that adorable pupper face. Beautiful work as always.
The sound at 15:24 is amazing, kinda magical
The moment the furnace door opens they start to sing, I just wish there was no other ambient sound Thanks for sharing ☘️
Perfect and nice
Very good
wondering why you only use two or three different glazes
WHAT IS THE MATERIAL YOU PUT BETWEEN TWO PIECES
It looks like carbon coring in that broken piece? I’m not an expert, as I was watching the yellow flames, I wondered about carbon buildup in the atmosphere. A welder would call a yellow flame like that a carbonizing flame. They want a nice blue flame for efficient burn - maximum heat. I am not trying to throw shade, just wanting to understand reduction firing.

Not sure about the carbon coring, will take a closer look. The orange flame is intentional as when reduction firing the aim is to starve the kiln of oxygen, by doing so it makes certain colours/textures available which can otherwise be very difficult to replicate in a fully oxidised atmosphere.
