Reducing the fan speed of the Tappecue Cruise Control

I have been using the Tappecue Cruise Control for many years, and one of the challenges I have encountered is the volume of air that the fan blows into the chamber of the cooker: it's way too much! I had created a video showing how to help mitigate this on my Weber Kettle, but I figured it was time to do it right.
Since the fan is a 12V DC blower fan, I figured I could simply reduce the voltage that goes to the fan from the Cruise Control. Not knowing if the 12 V was required to operate the Cruise Control device, I used a potentiometer to divide the 12V to an adjustable lower voltage, and here are the results.
