@dirt perfect you need a Bosch laser distance measure. I use one when surveying hospital room dimensions for renovations. I can measure more than 50’ away from the base point to the nearest 1/16” without moving my feet. Or in this case accurately measure without getting wet lol. Really enjoy the content! Keep it up! That worked out way better than a bunch of guys I watched up in Virginia once. They made a work barge and pile driver with old wood and 55 gal barrels. This part worked great. Their problem started when they were trying to weld the beams on top of the posts. The welder was in an aluminum boat and when he struck an arc he got a "minor" shock. He dropped his welding lead which arced, burned a hole in the boat which sank taking him and all his equipment to the bottom. I laughed my butt off since no one was hurt, just a little embarrassed. Y'all stay safe and keep the vids coming.

Fabricator could have tack welded a beam to give you the 16ft space needed between front and back posts. The face of every I-beam, even off by a degree will be feet apart over a 16ft span. I think he'll have no problem making it work. But could have saved himself hours of balancing over water, with a few welds on dry land. You guys do good work!!! Cheers Mike.
I’ve seen everything now! The whole time you were driving those beams in, I was hoping the concrete block wouldn’t break!
Well this was a first for me. I have seen pile drivers used to drive post, but I have never seen a excavator with a block of concrete used as a pile driver. It's like you said " run with what your brought". And it worked, great job again Mike.

Drive stakes in the ground on the sides of the pond and run string just like you do for basements.
Always great so see people working as a team; not sure about health and safety though. In the UK lifting Captain like that would be a total no-no.
I've done that with light poles and it worked good too

I was honestly expecting you to hammer one post in and have the block split in half and fall in the pond! Especially like how you perfectly balanced that block on that post, and let go! Now do it again!!!! You and the Cap'n always good entertainment for an evening! Loved the "Length" joke from Cap'n and the Amusement Park Ride
The block work great as a sledge hammer except for when you ended up balancing it on the post when it slipped out of the thumb and at the end when it broke right half in two. Either way it saved you from fishing concrete chunks out of the pond. The customer should have a very nice dock when he finishes it. This might be a lesson for Captain Kleeman to get any posts into the ground before the water level comes up too high if he wants a dock on his pond.
When a home owner is specific on length and width that means he is a particular fellow who knows what he wants . I recommend getting the water with a tape measure

We used to drive pilings around DC to support lagging & when the pile driving crane couldn't reach we used a wild-hammer (like when there were power lines in the way, etc). We drove them 100 foot down or so to sure-up earth for underground parking in high rises. We'd go down 4 stories or so. Once in a while we'd hit granite and the piling would bend and come backup ('U' shaped). When I was a kid, we drove pier pilings in the water using a hose and pump. Connect the hose to the bottom of the piling and let the water clear the way. They'd go right on down, then we'd have to go down and disconnect the hose. We also drove sheet piling for coffer dams for bridge work. Sheeting, suring, pile driving and underpinning buildings. Just like kids play each day.

For the short ones, you should have put a string from shore out around the outside of the outer post then back to shore. Square up the string & set the distance on shore, then it would have been easy to make them the same width... just touch the string and ey ball the middle short one.

@@DirtPerfect Of course maybe the capt. likes bucket surfing too...
if you want to push a pile into the mud straight and easy hang it from the bucket with a short piece of chain and gravity will make it straight as you drop it in then you just have to jiggle the bucket till the chain comes off. tie wire the excavator side of the chain or you might have to swim for it
