Rediscovering Radio Part 3
I've now built the QCX Mini Transceiver and I've made more progress with the setup of my QRP radio station.
In this video I review my progress and offer some tips on the building of the QCX Mini as well as showing how to troubleshoot and optimise the RF Power output.
So I'm still Rediscovering Radio and will be making more videos as I go on this journey:

Thanks for posting. I have built a couple of the old QCX kits and a QCX-mini. I think they are fantastic QRP rigs. I have a second QCX-mini that I aim to try to get working on 10m. Although Hans does not sell QCX-mini kits for 15/12/10m, he has said it may be possible but to expect a drop in RX sensitivity and TX power output. I will give it a go. If it doesn't work out, I can always convert to a lower band.

Lovely well presented video. I have built a QCX mini on 40m and have ordered a QMX so am itching for it to be delivered so I can get building. They really are a wonderful design, and will be capable of SSB too at some in the future. Having started learning CW in May 23, it’s a slow process but we’ll worth it. 73.

Good video and did you get the aluminum case with your, I forgot to order the case for mine, I might just find a plastic box if I can find one to fit. 73 KV5P

Thanks - glad you enjoyed it - yes, I did use the QRP Labs cases on all 3 of my QCX kits. All worked out well and I'm using them all regularly now.

Did you make your own battery box? What type of and how many batteries are inside the yellow box?

Yes - with the QCX I mainly use a 3D printed box (grey colour) fitted with 3x18650 batteries run through a voltage regulator to give 12 volts. A switch flicks over to a voltmeter so I know when to recharge. It lasts for many hours and easily covers a whole day of portable operation. You can see it in some of my later videos. The yellow box is also 3d printed and contains 8 AA cells, either standard or rechargeable. The current demand of the QCX is not high, so this is useable too with that radio. Generally I prefer to use these small rigs with battery power. I hope that helps, enjoy your radio! 73 from Mort / G4BSK

@@Q26Video Thank you very much for your information! Unfortunately, I am not a DIY person and hence I don't know how to get a voltage regulator. 73 from Mary / VE3INE

I thought this transceiver is single band but at 3:24, I saw you turned the right knob and the LCD shows a change from 160m to 80m, then to 60m, then to 40 m, then to 20 m. Could you tell me which one is true?

It is a single band transceiver- but the first time it powers on, the setup begins by selecting the band you have purchased. Once you have done that, you don't see that menu again. A great radio - I have 2 of them now, 20m and 17m.
