Redesigned Pilgrim UL Highline Backpack

Pilgrim Ultralight improved its popular Highline Backpack. Already my favorite backpack, with a new suspension this waterproof backpack only weighs 20 ounces and can carry 40 pounds. This pack is perfect for the hikers who can't get their base weight down to ultralight or for the ultra lighter that has long food and water carries.

I approve this message 🤪 Give it up to company that’s American grown and American manufactured. Too many people are looking for the cheapest they can find without a notion of American labor nor jobs in the entrepreneurial spirit. Go go go young man ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I like to see what others are doing , especially the guys out West and up North. Those heavy packs and all the gear required amaze me. I have lived in Florida for 80 years with 65 of them with camping trips. For me a UL pack is ideal , wish we would of had them back in the 60's. Mine never gets over 10 pounds with the non consumables. The Chicken Tramper UL 25 liter works great for me on 3 or 4 day trips.

Yeah, cooler temps make the volume and weight a little more. Thanks for watching.

Good review of your newer Highline pack. I have a 45 liter Roan on order since I needed a few of the features that it offered since I live in bear cannister Sierras and that is just the every day reality on trail. The Roan is very close to the Highline except it has load lifters and the frame is a bit longer to better support a large cannister, everything else is basically the same and its weight is barely more than the Highline, super light for its carrying capacity compared to other packs on the market. The Roan also comes in larger sizes so it could be used for winter trips. I'm SOBO PCT this year so will give it a workout with varying food/water/gear carries and wanted one pack to satisfy all those needs. I concur, Dillon is awesome to work with to sort out what will work best for an individual hikers requirements within the products and options he offers. In a perfect world I would own both a 30 liter Highline and one of the larger Roan's to cover all the loads, seasons and trip lengths. Cheers!

@@greglamb4225 Great pack. I would use it more if it were a little smaller. The 40L is big. It was nice on the AT and plan to take it on the Uinta. My older 35L Highline seems like a better pack for trips that don’t require that much space.

If you into sewing this looks like the G4 design. It’s good though that someone is making this design for others. Not everyone sews. The G4 design was made open source so this is a benefit for all.

@@MidwestBackpacker Their Kakaw 40 and Kakwa 55 have a similar inverted U. There are some good reviews on YT. I believe the Kakwa 40 is ultra 200 and only costs $250.

Durston is small, but located in Canada. I believe he outsources production to somewhere like Vietnam, so there's that. I own the Kakwa 55. That's what I used to hike the Ouachita Trail. I like it pretty well.

Dumb question, do the backpacks get heavier in the rain? i know they are most likely waterproof but just curious.

The Ultra 200 fabric doesn't really retain water in my experience. You would probably see a marginal weight increase because the nylon webbing/straps might hold a bit.
