Corrine, I had to take down a Bradford Pear Tree (named Brad) and a Eastern Redbud (named Erb) tree on my property for the safety of our house too! I did a ritual where I wrote the trees a letter each thanking them for all they had given the property over the decades before us, and the beauty it has shared with us since buying the home. I buried the letter at the base for Brad, and was able to bury the other letter inside the tree trunk for Erb. We were able to save Brad’s trunk for a homemade wildlife feeder we use all the time, but Erb was rotted so it had to be grinded. So the letter was ceremonially ground into the Earth with it 🥲 I was able to save samplings that had come from Erb and they are still growing in pots! And we still have plenty of firewood from Brad. I have a huge tree tattoo that covers my back, with the changing seasons, as autumn leaves blow through the wind onto my shoulders. Can you tell I’m an East coaster?! 😆 You’ll find that special way to honor that tree!
