Redd Foxx "Lil' Redd Wrecker" Custom Tow Truck 2020 Grand National Roadster Show
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I catch up with the Redd Foxx Lil' Red Wrecker at the 2020 Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona CA..Keep in mind that I shot this video months before the Car Kings show aired so I didn't have that information available...The Lil' Redd Wrecker has quite the history...Originally built back in the day by two hot rod builders at some point George Barris got a hold of it and tried to tie it in with the Sanford and Son TV show but just as all this was happening they canceled the show...George still toured it as part of his car shows for a couple of years then it disappeared until Galpin Auto Sports found it and took it back to what it was in it's prime!!..This all custom tow truck in covered in 30 layers of candy red paint....It's so candy it will make your mouth water...Crushed blue velour interior just pops against that candy red paint...Old school gold leaf lettering and pin striping finish out the 70's look...Then there is enough chrome to add just a touch more bling...Powered by a blown HEMI if you did need to tow something...It shouldn't be a problem...The Redd Foxx Lil' Redd Wrecker from the 2020 Grand National Roadster Show is one very cool part of Custom car history..Check it out!!!

Thanks for sharing, brings back memories. As a kid loved these odd balls. Built many models of George Barris style stuff.

That is straight out of the 70's for sure. It looks like a full size HotWheels car from the same time period. Very cool though and beautiful work.

Cool!
Originally built as the "Turnpike Hauler" , it was designed by Ed Newton, and as you said built by Dick Dean. Typical Barris bullshit, taking credit for someone else's work. Dave Shuten at Galpin Autosports recently restored it, and IT RUNS!! You should hear this thing running, there are videos on here of it. It's badass! It was never made in Hot Wheel or model kit form, although Matchbox did do a tow truck that definitely took styling from it. It has been recently offered in 3D print form in 1/25 scale in limited numbers. Thanks for doing all of the detailed views! I'm building the kit right now and truly needed to see all of it!!!

Well I see that somehow the blown small block morphed into a hemi, carpet went from red to blue and where is the chain steering wheel? Why would u change these things? I saw it in memphis in the late? 70's It was the only full custom car that looked like it had actually been driven

Maybe the way You seen it was wrong?? this could be the way it was done...I just shoot the videos...But I don't beat someone up for making a couple of changes...This was a lot of money to redo...
I thought there was a Monogram model of that, but didn't see it in a web search.

I remember this car. Yes, it was built in 70, and then redone when Barris got it. They used the popularity of Sanford and Son to promote the car on the show circuit. I don't believe Redd Foxx, personally, had much to do with it. I got some footage of it myself. Great memories.

It was called the highway hauler at first and it was blue and then barris got it and changed it for the redd foxx show that was cancelled before it got to be part of the show. I guess from what was said...

Barris had nothing to do with building this car. It was designed by Ed Newton and constructed by Dan Woods and Dick Dean: Bob Reisner paid the bills. It was acquired by Jay Ohberg who put his name to it before selling it to Barris who repainted it and claimed to have created it.
