REDCAT RACING RAMPAGE Monster Truck (Buying a Used 1/5 GAS RC Reality Check)

This is my first USED gas 1/5 rc. I picked this up for only 280 bucks in pretty unknown condition. The main thing that is important is that it was complete and looked super amazing in pictures and in person. As with any use cheap RC there is always an adventure and stuff to discover and irritate you, there was no exception with this one, although it's on a huge scale, ahahah.
Lets check out the issues and go over the truck itself.

Another really good video. I’m a car guy, not a RC guy, so I am here for the tech stuff you keep pointing out. But every RC I’ve seen from you so far, I really like. I like this new/used one, Independent Suspension front and rear, 10lbs of tires?! Nice!!! Can’t wait to see more of this one too. Keep up the good work, have a great weekend.

hey man!! thanks again for watching and your support, it means alot to me to share this stuff. I used to be a car guy years ago too, but then I realized that being a car guy in NYC is pretty tough, lol, and sporty cars are not for these roads, you know. So I got a prius these days. Used to drive a nice 2000 Acura integer type R, back when the fast and the furious moves were popular too. Now I've also got a nice 2004 gen 2 Lincoln LS v8 and a grand marquis.

hybrid32494 you are very welcome. You are putting out some good content. Yeah I cannot imagine how bad the roads must be there, because the roads here in Indiana are getting worse by the day. I like both the Integra and the Lincoln LS, That LS is like a mustang in a tuxedo. Grand Marquis are like one of the last RWD full size cars, nice. I’m looking forward to some more videos, have a good week, be safe.

That outdrive is definitely the cause of the exploded front tires. Those tires also look like soft plastic? Three of those tires weigh the same as my 1/8 buggy, lol! Yea I've had it about a week now, and sane as yours I had that weird air filter, mine however actually hit the servo arms for the throttle so I had to replace the air filter(I custom fit a spectre one on), I've installed headlights, removed the battery tray and swapped to a 7.4v 80c lipo(much snappier responses on throttle and steering) I hardwired in a new in off switch and hooked my headlights to it so they come on when car is on, new spark plug new fuel lines new fuel filter cleaned everything really nice and it runs smooth. I need a few parts for it still but it easily does 50mph as is and it's only running rear wheels currently. hey man!! thanks for watching and welcome to the cool 1/5 gas rc world, I started out with a rovan Baja too. The LOSI MTX as people say is terrific, but pretty pricey, new it's 1,100. Your other alternative is a redcat rampage like mine. For 620 you could get the rampage XT or for 800 the rampage MT. Whats great about the redcat models is they all have 4WD.

hey bro! what's up! The Rampage MT is very cool, but get ready for a top speed of maybe 28 MPH at most. Those 32CC engines run well, but have super low RPM, also getting parts for Redcat is a problem, if if comes to that. If this is your first gas RC, I highly recommend you buy a cheap new Rovan Baja, learn on that, some some money, and buy yourself another brushless of some type. ANY gas RC is fun, trust me, I started of with a Rovan Baja. If I started off with a redcat gas RC I would seriously have been pissed.

Wrap the tires with kevlar string. A lot of bashers do that on their trenchers on 6S trucks to avoid having them blow out due to the wheel speeds stretching them so much. I've done that on both my outcast with 3.8" trenchers and my savage flux with the same. So far, no issues on 6S. I was using 2 loops, 3 wraps each of 70lb kevlar kite string. It's a bit thin and I cut one when running in a rocky area. I just recently got a 100' of 200lb kevlar which is larger OD and I'll likely only do one wrap. The string goes down in the trenches of the tire so it doesn't make much contact with the driving surface. You can see what I mean here: gmarquee98.x10host.com/myPics/98gmarquee/tires/2019-0328-ProlineTrencher3.8-KevlarLine.jpg I just used CA to secure the knots and put a dot on it to glue it to the tire every inch or so. It really helps with ballooning.

hyena buddy, thanks for watching. Which pipe did you install? Ye, the pipe makes a big difference, typically the larger the expansion chamber the better the pipe, not those shorty style straight looking pipes.

hey man, so I looked at the moor more closely after this video. And it's definitely got a different head on it, there is a stamp in the head saying 28-32 CY. So this is not the original HY head. That's probably why it feels different than a common redcat motor.

Hey bro! Since this video I've gotten another used rampage, I call it the drift edition (you gotta find the video on this channel). you will see just hot great the chassis is. But I will admit the stock redcat motor is a very LOW RPM one, it runs good, but very low RPM. I've been running a stock rovan 30CC and it's terrific.

WHOAAA, yep, as you already know these gas rcs are not that quick. They are just fun in a different way, something a car guy can appreciate, you know. 40 MPH is really good, same speed as mine basically for the rovan. Compared to the original HPI Baja that is really fast btw. I just don't want to buy any more lipos, LOL.

Nice truck Man! Big MT tires on there. If you wanted to use 24mm hex wheels on there a company called Ramtec makes 24mm hex conversion hexes for it. They are expensive but opens up a new world on wheels and tires you can use. The two speed. I haven't used it myself but have seen it in action. If you plan to run that on road I think you will be good to go. But add off road stress to that tranny and I don't think it will survive. Here is a link to those 24mm hex adapters on ebay www.ebay.com/itm/RAMTech-RC-Redcat-Rampage-XTC-Adapters-for-Baja-Rims-Chimera-XB-XT-XB-E-XR-R5/303131961433?hash=item469412a859:g:H0YAAOSwBzBcu8d1&frcectupt=true

hey bro!! thanks for watching, you're my goto channel usually for Rampage stuff. Considering this trans does not shift I think it'll be fine, lol. In the next video I will disassemble it and check it out, If I could lock it in second gear for speed runs, that would be fine for me. BTW I looked into the motor more and it seems that this has a different head on it, it says 28-32 CY. So it's not an original HY head. Maybe that's why it feels much more powerful than my rally version.
