The book would need a series for that imo, for a movie they had to heavily cut back on the story, and altering almost everything. We have many more or less important characters entirely missing, as well as entire plotlines, like most of their emails. I would gladly watch a 6 hour version too though, that expands on the story a lot more.

Your "I need to adjust myself" line made me LOL. The sex scene was so beautifully done - frank, intimate, tender, and a great way to convey the characters' depth of feeling for one another. Change quickly. Life does that too.

As an Australian, I would like to say that Henry is the only one who pronounced Melbourne correctly. Which makes sense because Commonwealth. Also it’s definitely worth reading the book! There’s so much more to Alex and Henry that isn’t explored and helps the narrative make sense. It’s a fine adaptation to film but there are some standout issues. Also lots more love making stuff if that’s your thing 😉 I think the line delivery from Alex in some parts is not bad per se, more that he’s supposed to be energetic and goofy. But the chemistry between the two is phenomenal. But this is truly a movie for the gays. But its AMAZING. Straights get this stuff by the bucket load, and not only was this our turn but RWRB does it SO well. Must hear the thoughts of the book! Did the same as you and bought it right after, read it 4 times. First Young Royals, then Heartstopper, now RWRB. Just 💘 As an aside on the UK monarchy. I find myself in the middle of wanting and not wanting the monarchy. There is so much weight to their existence, but so much continued lack of responsibility for what they can do to address not only their history, but the Kingdom's history. To me, I need them to be the moral and ethically responsible leaders they have the opportunity to be (and not doing what they did to people like Harry/Megan and Dianna and Camilla and King Edward), pushing diversity, inclusion, responsibility, repatriation of treasures. If not, well I'll see you at Buckingham Palace, draped in a pride flag and storming the gates.

There are a LOT of inaccuracies regarding the British royalty stuff... Like in the book Henry's called The Prince of Wales when technically that title is only given to the heir, from what I've been told...and Henry's not the heir he's the spare... Pretty much all of the inaccuracies come down to the author being American.... And it really shows at certain points in the book so yeah .... Just try not to think about the inaccuracies... they're also there in the book.

tbh a LOT of the American political stuff is super inaccurate as well. So I kinda just suspend my disbelief that this is a fairytale world lol. like the way elections work the states are called from east to west because of the time zones so texas would never be the last state to be called. also the presidents son would NEVER give the main speech at the DNC like in the movie it would have to be the dem candidates or VPs.

So yeah, I don't really have a horse in either race and so people have kind of just told me what the inaccuracies are... And from what I've been able to tell there's more British ones than American ones though I'm not surprised that there are also American ones as it's very clearly like an idealistic fantasy America and England in this rom-com .... It doesn't really aim for realism necessarily which is totally fine for its genre.

Yeah, the author purposefully wrote the book to have a LOT of different fanfiction tropes that are very common .... So a lot of people will compare the writing style 2 fanfiction but it's written that way purposefully. So really readers of the book are just picking up what the author is putting down writing style wise. It's meant to read like a fanfiction. And it succeeds, in my opinion. it's reads like a pretty decently written fanfiction ...not amazing... I've read better fanfiction but this one's pretty decent quality. Significantly better than After or Fifty shades of Greys writing quality is. If it was written as a fanfiction I would ABSOLUTELY read it. But it is an original story just written more in the style/tropes of fanfictions.

But evidently others love it and that’s great! it was too distracting for me tbh. after reading fanfics like ATYD i think i’ve outgrown that writing style now and i like really lyrical poetic stuff (again it’s totally just a preference thing and is not me saying the book or story is bad)

@@torijeri yeah, I never read After or Fifty shades of Grey and its entirety. Because I knew that they were horribly written from other who also read fanfic and read those books. But yeah I can see why those two books series would have put someone off fan fiction writing style because they are not well written... And yet they somehow got published after changing all the names. Even though the writing quality quality is not good. It's still kind of baffles my mind that the books actually got published and then adapted into fucking movies I don't know how that happened... I've read hundreds of fanfics over the years with those exact same plot lines that are better written. I think it's totally valid if you don't like that writing style. People evolve as they grow older and their likes and dislikes can sometimes change significantly. I started reading fanfiction when I was around 11 and I'm 26 now and I still enjoy reading it for the most part. It's a bit of a challenge to find the really well-written stuff and I find that I enjoy searching for it. But I can totally understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea and that's fine. Casey posted on their Instagram the other day that they are writing a new first-person perspective book... And I definitely will not be going ANYWHERE near it because I fucking hate first-person perspective... So everyone has their preferences and likes and dislikes when reading stuff.

Niall, you are SO ADORABLE & HILARIOUS! 😂😂😂 Glad I found your channel! Yes, the book is a fun VERY sexy read. There are some differences. The film combines a few characters, and deletes some entirely. But the basic plot points remain the same. And it is A LOT MORE… GRAPHIC!!! 🔥😈🔥 It takes more time for Alex & Henry to go from frenemies to friends to lovers. Time for exposition that there just isn’t time for in a 2hr movie. I agree the first act is funny and but fast . But I think that is to get to the important part of the story. Their romance! And yes, not only are Taylor & Nick HAWT AF! Their chemistry is INSANE! Enjoy reading the book. Like I said, LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I will try as an American to remember it’s “Edin-bra!” But I make no promises. Our American tongues just don’t work like that normally! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 And yes, we say things like, “I can Hang!” … “It’s Brick!” … and here in California… “Dude!” 🌞🌴😎🌊🏄‍♂️🍹 Looking forward to your next review!

When Alex tells Miguel he can "hang", it's short for he can "hang out", that is, spend time talking. American slang can be pretty challenging as young kids keep adding more and more terms. "Hang out" is pretty old though, even if "hang" as an abbreviation is not as common. And more cat breaks, please!

I once lived in upstate NY, near the Canadian border, was born in Portugal, and have lived in Germany since 1988, so my US English stopped in 1988, everything now is so foreign to me as I now speak International English free from American slang. It seems like every day 10 new words and expressions are added to US English due to celebrities and singers adding things people over there manage to make into idioms and things. I heard the "I can hang" expression, but remembered that "do you wanna hang out with me?" was something I had heard as a teenager in the US, but Alex using the expression "I'm down", flustered me so that I had to look it up. He used it a couple of times. It was funniest when they were in the hotel and Henry said "I think we should make love..." and Alex hesitated, looked at him, and said "I'm down", then blurted out "Who says make love anyway, are we going to do it to Lana Del Rey music or what?" I'm used to hearing British-isms more, especially after watching Heartstopper S01 and S02, language is a strange thing the longer you are not within their creation bubbles. The film was a bit of a learning curve for American-isms. One other thing I couldn't figure out was in the opening scene in the car where Rachel Hilson's character Nora said "Yucking My Yum" all day... That was a very very new American-ism for me.

It felt healing in its own way, to see queer love portrayed so unapologetically queer, and with the same level nudity as straight scenes. I'm certainly no lady, I'm nonbinary, and I love mlm intimacy makes it obvious how silly heteronormativity and patriarchal gender roles are. Young Royals and RWRB are the only shows/movies I've watched where I felt represented in regards to intimacy. That's why all the connotations attatched to the concept of tops and bottoms feels absolute garbage to me, patriarchal, heteronormative bs. Makes me so grateful that I live in a country where we use religious swearing instead of making sex a bad thing.

I think the reason why some of the lines are ‘cringy’ or delivered awkwardly in some scenes is because it’s a somewhat ‘serious’ film with comedy forced upon it. The book was very funny when I read it, a classic romcom, so they obviously had to make the film a romcom too which can be difficult when you cut a bunch of characters and scenes, and end up having to add in random comedic one-liners into scenes to keep the genre alive. All this sounds really negative but I promise I found this film adaption funny and brilliant! This is just to add reasoning to the few instances something like this happened and you pointed out x Love your reactions 💕

It's a romcom not a serious _SERIOUS_ movie 😭 romcoms can have layers too you know, they don't always have to be thoroughly ridiculous and cringey, as was shown here when Alex confronted Henry. But the main genre is still Romance AND Comedy, so you should expect that those two elements would be the most prevalent in the movie.

@@natangie that’s literally what I said? It’s a romcom, romcom’s are meant to be cringey now and then, the scrip writers had to adapt book comedy to screen comedy, and they over all did a good job. No need to have a go, I said I love the film.

I agree, bit disney in parts, but also liked that they "normalized" a gay romance as it being wonderful that its just 2 men falling in love and thats a good thing. Old stuffy attitudes about lgbtq relationships are just that..old and out of date. (Or should be for sure)

I love this movie so much ❤❤❤ And ngl, was not sure from the first 15 minutes or so if I would. Serious second hand embarrassment and I was just cringing- right up until the scene in the hospital. And then it was like “ hang on a minute…” The texting was cute and cleverly shot. And then once we hit the New Year’s kiss I was all in. Get these two together. The casting was incredible. The two leads of course ( Nicholas just breaks my heart with a look *so* many times in this movie) But every level of the supporting cast (Uma Thurman, Stephen Fry, the actors who play Nora, Zahra, Alex’s dad… all really good) I also thought the sex/love scenes were really well handled. They were definitely hot… but they also felt very intimate and sensual and sweet. Heard a few reactors describe it as respectful and I think that’s right. It’s sappy… it’s a very silly premise… it’s the queer fairytale rom-com I didn’t know I needed 😊(ok, that’s a lie… I knew)
