I can't stop smiling watching you react because this is TOTALLY ME while I first saw the MV. The choreography was on point and their visuals, vocals are everything. I'm so happy that Irene got to display more of her talent through this unit instead of having people only focusing on her looks. I relate with you guys so much on your rant on SBS at last ... it's been 202 days since the Wendy's 'accident' and yet no one was suspended or terminated from the employment in SBS. They kept saying they were not responsible and some outsourcing co., was doing the works and all that shit to dilute the issue. Till now their official Investigation report hasn't been released and no one was held responsible :(

@@Raidanzoup Yeah, it's a shitty move from them. It also doesn't help that SM ent. hasn't said anything against SBS or sued them for negligence. We'll never know if they settled behind doors, but knowing SM they don't care about their female artists as much so I don't expect much :(

@@Lyf4rMusic At the very least. It was rumored that Red Velvet was going to tour extensively at the end of the ReVe Festival - Finale promotions. They did the tour of Japan that they were already contractually obligated to do with 4 members and cancelled everything else. SM definitely received a "loss of income" payoff, IMO. Wendy undoubtedly got the same, not to mention the gigantic amount she would have gotten for pain and suffering. SBS was *clearly* negligent. It was Solar of Mamamoo who found Wendy writhing on the ground, for God's sake. Not SBS. It would have taken a judge about 30 seconds to rule in SM's favor if it actually went to court. SBS knew this. SBS paid. Which is why we haven't heard anything.

(Found this explanation online and think its SPOT ON) What the song/MV can possibly be about (I’m around 90% sure) Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. As a gothic literature enthusiast, when I watched the MV and heard the lyrics this book was the 1st thing that came to my mind. I re-read it to make sure and I was amazed how even small details have been picked up from the book. The song derives so many references from this novella. Mind you, this Gothic novella came out around 26years before Dracula so this is considered one of the benchmark literature when it comes to Vampires. The parallels are so extraordinary that I’m around 90% sure that Monster is based on Carmilla. However, that being said I also think that the girls (Irene and Seulgi) were never really told about it. What exactly is Carmilla about? The story is narrated by a young woman (Laura) preyed upon by a female vampire named Carmilla, later revealed to be Mircalla, Countess Karnstein (Carmilla is an anagram of Mircalla). The character is a prototypical example of the vampire, expressing romantic desires toward the protagonist. So when people accused this MV of queer baiting, they were wrong. They were ideally supposed to seduce each other because that how it goes in the story. Here are the parallels between Monster and Carmilla: [NOTE- From what I have understood, Seulgi played the role of Carmilla, the vampire who preyed on Irene (Laura)] 1. Seulgi with cat-like makeup crawling- Represents a form of Carmilla. In the book, the ‘Monster’ has been described to have many forms, one of them being a cat-like figure I quote: "I saw something moving round the foot of the bed, which at first I could not accurately distinguish. But I soon saw that it was a sooty-black animal that resembled a monstrous cat" Seulgi’s make up and costume here is on point- Her natural cat like features accentuated with makeup that make them prominent. Particularly excessive use of eye-liner to complement the “sooty-black cat” look. 2. Seulgi controlling Irene- Carmilla controlling/manipulating Laura, making her do whatever Carmilla wanted without much suspicion. 3. “1 to 5 to 7 I’m a dancer in the darkness”- This is a small detail that I noticed in the lyrics. She used to come down very late, generally not till one o'clock, she would then take a cup of chocolate, but eat nothing. It was now one o'clock, and still no tidings. I ran up to Carmilla's room, and found her standing at her dressing table There have been constant references in the book stating that Carmilla would not come out of her room for 1 o’ clock and then stay up till night after which she would go to her room to ‘sleep’ but would lock her door. In reality, she’d be out doing her ‘vampire business’ 4. “I’ll crack every joint in my body and come close to your bed”; “I’ll horribly steal your heart and dominate you”- Referencing to how the vampire would come closer to Laura’s bed every night and the second line referencing to how Carmilla seduced Laura into believing everything she would say without second guessing her. 5. The ‘controlling’ choreography in the prechorus- Again a reference to how Laura was being controlled. This combined with the lyrics of “under one light why are there 2 shadows?” indicating how they were becoming ‘one’ 6. The chorus- The mirrored dance again indicating how they were becoming ‘one’ monster. Lyrics also mention “I’m bothering you making me dream only about me” which is a direct reference to how Laura and Carmilla dreamt about each other. Laura particularly had a childhood dream of Carmilla (the author does not mention anything clearly however, it is suggested that Carmilla controlled Laura’s dreams) Another scene from the MV where one of them approach the other while sleeping is again indicative of 2 things- 1: Them dreaming about each other; 2: Carmilla visiting Laura at night. Apart from all of this, the seduction is being made really clear in the MV during this part *Notice how its mostly Seulgi taking charge in 1st chorus* 7. The second verse- “I rose from ashes in the cold ground, From dusk to dawn I exist”, highly suggestive of the vampire nature of the ‘monster’ By the 2nd half of this verse you can notice that they have already moved to the ‘Chapel’ where in the book Carmilla is supposedly killed. In the MV they used a Gun instead of a Stake (in the book); Silver bullets are also said to kill vampires, btw. You can also see an open grave which was grave of the Countess Mircalla (Same person as Carmilla) The lyrics by now indicate that both of them are enjoying the ‘madness’. Laura couldn’t give Carmilla up (such were her seduction and charms) and Carmilla couldn’t give up the madness of ‘feeding’ off Laura. 8. The second chorus- While the lyrics remain the same, the cinematography has few changes. With Irene turning into the Computer Generated monster, it was indicated that Seulgi had done her job as a vampire and now both of them were ‘Monsters’ Also, notice how Irene joins the seduction her as opposed to first chorus where only Seulgi took charge! 9. The Bridge- While the MV has vague references to the entire novella her instead of one particular scene, the lyrics referenced to the fact that Carmilla could not be active at dawn and that she had to prey before dawn. “Its time for red sun to rise at dawn, Now that you’re relieved you try to come out of the dream..But monster lives forever” These lines most probably are pointing at how Carmilla’s prey would be relieved about dawn setting in but by that time she would killed her human prey. But her victim was sinking fast, and before the morning dawned, she died. 10. The final chorus and change of positions- Extremely powerful (musically) climax to the entire narration of the story. While the mirrored dance continues for a while, in the end you notice that Irene is controlling Seulgi which suggested that Carmilla (Seulgi) failed to prey on Laura (Irene) The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head was next placed on a pile of wood, and reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Here, you must notice the usage of the term “ashes”. Another point to be noted would be how the MV used Gun instead of a stake.) Apart from all these, The architecture, the costumes and the overall setting of the MV is very similar to the ones described in the Novella. There are chances that I might have missed something so I would highly suggest you to read the novella to fully understand the references :)
