If you’re interested, there’s an English version of this song which might help you to understand what’s going on a little more (though you’d only be able to find a lyric video or a live performance, no MV). Honestly the English version of this song is one of the very best English kpop songs of all time, imo. It’s elite.

There is no man in the MV, because they killed him (the bad boy) and put him in the suitcase. There is always something dark in their MVs, and that's one of the reasons I like this group.

Mamamoo and Red Velvet debuted two months apart, 19/6/14 and 1/8/14 respectively. They are good friends, especially Moonbyul/Seulgi and Solar/Irene. Yes, Mamamoo are considered the best vocal female kpop group and Wendy the best female kpop vocalist.

I miss their early, public interactions (Hwasa lifting up Wendy lol). They were visibly very close as groups during the early years (like same-year chingus), many joint photos/interviews. They prob still are but not as public, plus the MMM mems are busy w solo careers. I agree w your assessment, and knowing you're an avid Moomoo, I thank you for giving Wendy her due. Imo vocals alone are not the guarantor of great music. I prefer RV's songs over MMM's (tho I enjoy them both) bc of the overall impact: songwriting and compositional ambition/creativity/novelty, production/arrangement, diversity of genres, in addition to raw vocals and vocal layering/direction. Btw always wanted to know, is there reliable evidence that S found W first on the 2019 SBS Gayo stage? Fans say she said so in a fanmeet (I think they mean fansign) around May 2020 but I haven't found a credible source, just passed-around info assumed true. Is there a first-hand account? (Trivia for the page: Solar and Wendy share the same birthday, 3 years apart, and both dipped their toes in musicals recently. Solar is doing her second musical, Notre Dame de Paris, early next year, playing the lead Esmeralda)

If you want an understanding on why they are called concept queens check out Dumb Dumb, Russian Roulette, and Rookie mvs. Showcases their duality.

I believe the 2 sides might make more sense if you look at like this…the red side is more fun, quirky & experimental (not always sweet & cute…looking at you Ice Cream Cake) while the velvet side is more smooth, r&b & almost soulful. Just a quick note that with K-pop in general & even more so with RV, the songs & mv’s are very rarely what they may seem to be on the surface. Suffice to say, the girls are basically cult leaders & we all happily fall in line! Anyway, I always love watching new reveluvs (luvies if that’s easier) go down the RV rabbit hole for which there is no escape….not that anyone ever wants to escape! Enjoy the ride!

For me the top 3 vocal groups are Red Velvet, Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher from 3rd gen. I can’t choose who is objectively “the best” because they all have different vocal colours and vibes.. I think it’s subjective. They are all friendly with each other (Wendy and Sua are particularly close) and very respectful of each other’s talents 😊

I don't normally recommend album listens, because they can be long. But if you wanted to try one, Red Velvet is the group for you. Right from the start, their entire discography is full of high-quality songs that are fan favorites. SM spends lots of money on the "B-sides" (non-comeback singles). Red Velvet have even made (low budget) MVs for some of the B-sides. Just pick an album or EP at random. It really won't matter.

I like Red Velvet and Mamamoo equally as much, they're vocal queens... you absolutely have to listen to some B-sides as well...( although most could be classed as A-sides). The Discography is huge, just phenomenal!

Oh my, I can't believe I'm the first. I clicked so fast 😂 Bad boy is still my all time fave Red Velvet title track. I think one video is not enough to talk about their concepts. They just have variety of concepts for each music video. One of my fave concepts is "feel my rhythm" it has that classical & artistic theme. Can't wait for you guys to watch the other MVs 😊

Red - BRIGHT, quirky, pop & funk, more experimental Velvet - SMOOTH is right - dark, mature, R&B inspired They have had more of a blended concept in most songs since a certain time but even still most songs fans will declare this is a more "velvet" song or this is a more "red" song. For me most of the songs on the last two albums leaned heavily Velvet but because there wasn't a primarily R&B influenced title track, some fans say like "when will we have another velvet title track again! When will there be another Bad Boy!" There will never be another Bad Boy title track because Red Velvet is always shifting and evolving, but there are plenty of Velvet leaning tracks since that time. I would say Queendom and Reve Festival 2022 Feel My Rhythm were both leaning more Red even though a few tracks are more velvet and a nice blend I feel like. And then with Chill Kill we REALLY have a true dual concept within the song itself with very clearly more "Red" leaning elements in the chorus amongst a mostly "Velvet" song. I love it, myself. And very happy to see you continuing your Red Velvet journey! Looking forward to more! OH! and P.S. - Fans who are into fighting will fight back and forth about which group is the best vocal group, but I feel like that's just silly, they are friends with each other, they both have strong vocalists and members who can do so much, let's just enjoy both of the groups and admire all their talents exactly as they are! They're different, and both so so so good.

I love their velvet side. Their earlier velvet songs, Be Natural n Automatic is probably 2 of their best R&B songs. Please react to these MVs. Having said that, Red Velvet probably has the greatest discographies of any female kpop group. Stunning!

Really Bad Boy is not a sequel to this, that's just how song titles worked out. This is the Top Song on the Velvet side for most fans. Reveluv is the official title but mostly called Luvies.

It's also a clever pun of "Level Up," as in Korean Reveluv is written as re-be-reop (레베럽) and Level Up is written as re-ber-eop (레벨업). In 2017, when the girls asked for fandom name submissions, "Revels" was the early front-runner. "Revel" is a seldom used English word meaning "to celebrate." But because they didn't want any confusion with Dean's fandom, who were already called "Rebels, ( the two words are pronounced exactly the same in Korean ) they added "Luv" to the end to signify the love between the girls and their fans. The similarity to the French word "reve" was noticed a few months later

Red Velvet and Mamamoo are my favorite vocal groups in the 3rd generation. As far as who's the best, I feel that at a certain level, it becomes a matter of personal preference, and some fans get in their feelings too much and start stating their opinions as facts. Suffice to say they are both very talented.

i dont think theres an actual divide between Mamamoo and Red Velvet with whos the best out the two. They definitely are just the two brought up the most in these topics of whos the best vocalists but i think its just the style of music that changes peoples preferences

Red Velvet and Mamamoo, the best vocal based GG in the 3rd generation KPOP GG. But for me, they are still the best up to now even compared to the newer generations. And you can listen to Bad Boy English version by them as well. They performed the English version when they performed in the Western hemisphere.

I would say Mamamoo have better vocals just because they basically have three main vocalist but I like Red Velvet's music more. Their Red side is hella addictive even when you think it's not appealing at first listen their songs eventually will get to you. And their Velvet side with all its R&B glory is just crazy good.

There is an English version of Bad Boy you can check out =) It’s a great “adaptation” if only because the song was actually an English song to start with lol. SM/Red Velvet especially get a lot of songs from overseas composers. For example, Aespa got Next Level from Fast and Furious. Red Velvet has a number of songs from Moonshine (production duo) and a song from Lyre as well (I believe Lyre is an American production group of all women, they are also responsible for Mafia in the Morning by Itzy and Karma by Blackswan, are the ones I know off the top of my head at least).

you're right about wendy and mamamoo. mamamoo is more well-rounded as a vocal group and all the members are equally good vocalists while red velvet has mainly 2 strong vocalists (3, if we're counting joy) but wendy is still on another level compared to all of them. also, if you like their vocals, i recommend listening to RBB (really bad boy). it was a pretty risky release and not many people like the song but the most impressive part of it is that the chorus is ENTIRELY driven by vocal adlibs and high notes. it's not a chorus that includes high notes, it just a pretty basic chorus with the highlight being that wendy and seulgi are belting on top of it. it was a really interesting creative choice and even more impressive that they pulled it off. also, irene (the main rapper) hits a really high note in the song too!

I don't think this mv really has a story concept, the concept is more- "Ultimate Girl Crush". When people say RV are the Concept Queens they don't necessarily mean that each mv has a detailed story and lore (although some do i.e. Chill Kill, Peek a Boo), but more that each video has a very clear theme and RV always fully embraces said theme and embodies it. Some good examples is how RV does all of the following and just kills each concept Ulitimate Girl Crush: Bad Boy, Monster, Creepy/Odd/Story: Peek a Boo, Chill Kill, Russian Roulette, 28 Reasons Wacky/Experimental/Cooky: Dumb Dumb, Rookie, Birthday, Zimzalabim, #Cookie Jar, Sappy Elegant/R&B Girl Crush: Psycho, Wildside Art/Classical Music/Ballet: Feel My Rhythm Summer Fun: Red Flavor, Power Up, Umpah Umpah Cute but also kinda odd: Ice Cream Cake, Happiness, Queendom R&B: Automatic, One of These Nights, Be Natural Dance: Naughty Folk: Like Water Nostalgic: Hello and on and on.

I love mamamoo as well, i love the members and their personality, individual talent. But musically, i migrate more to rvs style. The concept is like femme fatale. There isnt a story, like peekaboo

After having done w/ red velvet, could you pls delve into another K-pop girls group such as Aespa who is comprised of 2 Koreans, 1 Chinese from China & 1 from Japan whose mother is a Korean but her father is Japanese, & she has grown up in Japan or she having graduated from American high school in Japan, & moved to her mother's land to pursue her career as a K-pop singer, & so her native tongue is American English. They are also well known for their remarkable vocals; they appeared on Good Morning America show, & may be a few yrs younger than Red Velvet? ( In general, Asians seem to look much younger & they might look like 15 or 16 but are all actually over 21 in 2023 ). Finally, another girls group who might be of interest to you is XG that is the name of their group ( Hinata, Juria, Chisa, & others ) VOX #5 XGLEE Club, & their synchronized dancing is astounding, stupendous, & phenomenal!!! I'd appreciate you if you could react to them, cause your reaction is not only intelligent but also incisive!!! To pronounce Seulgi's name: /Sue/, plus a slightly awkward 'L', plus a hard 'g' (as in /good/), and the 'i' sounds like 'ee'. Kang Seulgi is likely the best all-rounder in K-Pop, outshining even Irene's abilities just because Seulgi was BORN to be Main Dancer. She is also a Lead Vocalist (which beats Irene's vocals), no doubt at all in my mind that Wendy has helped Seulgi in the vocal department. Irene is definitely the better Rapper of the two but Seulgi CAN rap. Yeri's name just sounds like 'Jerry' if the 'J' was turned to a 'Y'. But Yeri also sometimes goes by Katie (especially when there are cute boys around). Otherwise, 'Irene' is a Stage Name that she goes by almost all the time (really just her family and close friends call her by her traditional Korean name) but it sounds like we would normally say it. Wendy is a Stage Name, same as Irene, but Wendy apparently picked it up while she was in school in Canada and kept using it when she moved to the U.S. Sounds like we would normally say it. Joy is the same thing as Irene, so, 'normal' pronunciation on her Stage Name.

Quick note on Seulgi. She was actually training as a main vocalist….then Wendy came along. Based on the talent of each of them Seulgi was moved main dancer training

Wendy is not a stage name. It was a name bequeathed to her by her father, because in line with the name's etymology, he wanted her to be "a friend who helps others." (She has said this many times before, most recently on her radio show.) She has been using it publicly since she was a grade-schooler in CA/US, waaay before she joined SM. But Irene and Joy are indeed stage names picked by SM (though one can say the names suit their temperament).

@@davids12345100 That makes sense, Seulgi is really great. It's like comparing Dreamcatcher members Main Vocalist Lee Siyeon and Lead Vocalist Kim Yoohyeon. Yoohyeon could be a Main Vocalist anywhere else besides Dreamcatcher because Siyeon exists. I put Yoohyeon on the same level as Seulgi (apparently so does Seulgi) and I put Siyeon very near the same level as Wendy, if not on the same level.

She does. But just as one can have, say, a compound first name and go by two names or nicknames (depending on the situation or whom one is with), it's okay to call her by various names. She herself switches preference on what she likes to be called by people she's close to. My point tho was that the name 'Wendy' is a lot more personal and meaningful to her than people may realize (not merely a stage name)@@jamescurfman3284
