Great video. People aren't aware how much it costs to run/setup a tank and work required and knowledge. You really wouldn't spend that much more to have a 100gal tank because of the essential equipment, auto dosing, skimmers, lighting etc...just get a bit more expensive and larger...otherwise...you need all the same equipment big/small...not cheap. Recommend anybody considering reef tank ownership, responsibility, work/effort and knowledge and go very slow...don't add coral/fish or anything for a month of running the tank to ensure you systems are all running perfect, lighting, water parameter control, topping off/water changes and basic day to day maintenance. Then start slowing adding some coral or fish and go from there. Trust me...last thing you want, and for our Earth, is to be irresposible and kill fish/coral due to that. Good stuff!

There is also no need to go full blown... Most thing are gadget, a simple heater and the return pump is enough for soft corals. No need for 300$ pump controlled via app...

😂...uh....should I ask which one? I have decided to do a 'Meleve' style anemone nano...frigg all the $$$$$ corals unless they can go out, work a 8 hr shift & secure the bag. I am keeping it real bruh. I got a cap for money and I promise you, although I have tanks and equipment already..e.g. Water filter, lights...whatever (seasoned sw keeper) I wont be buying a car a.k.a. sw system. I am doing old school mostly. I thank him for telling peeps the "real deal".

I got lucky.. I bought a brand new red sea 170 with everything you've shown in the video for 500e which is £400 also he gave me 200e worth of seahorse aquarium livestock vouchers. I drove half way around the country for it last xmas. The guy was moving to Oz for good and needed quick sale. Iv been looking at it for a year now ans still havwnt set it up. Planning on getting it started in the next week but very nervous about it! Clueless when it comes to marine.

I appreciate theirs more than one way to skin a cat. Nothing wrong with what you've done. Could've spent more. Could've spent less. It's a personal thing. What would make a great vid is showing the basic things you NEED. Then a list of things that sit between need and want. Then the wants. IMO this would be more realistic in the setup process. The WANTS can be added maybe every paycheck or so. Just my tuppence

Thats a hard one as it really depends on budget and what you want to spec it up with, the red sea max nano is great for a starter tank as it comes with everything you need(light, skimmer, ect) and is a very good system out the box, the Waterbox systems are really nice high high quality but will have to spec it right i would go for either prime 16hd or red sea reef led50 or kessil a160we. with a tunze 9001 skimmer. All depends on if its a first reef tank for you.

It certainly will not im afraid, you would have to do a 90%+ water change every other day just to keep alkalinity stable, alot of work when you can just dose what your system uses every hour by a auto doser. Now even easier now we have all in one dose solutions on the market its a game changer. Been reefing 30 years and seen so many changes and methods.

Dont. This video is a big lie. You dont have to spend this much when you buy second hand. You can buy a 30 gallon tank second hand for 30 dollars, diy a lighting setup with multiple channels and day and night schedule for 100, diy a skimmer for 20, buy a cheap/second hand ro/di for 60, diy a cheap sump, you can diy a gravity ato or electronic for 10, use kalkwasser with a 60 dollar kamoer x1 dosing pump, use a cheap ac return pump for 25 bucks which is even way more reliable than these 300 dollar dc bullshit. you can get everything you need to run a 30 gallon very succesfully for less then 500 dollars. This includes fish and corals. Of course you will have to keep paying for salt, di filters, food and test kits, but that is not that expensive. Dont let these big spenders steer you away from the hobby. They are ignorant and want to convince you you need this to run a succesfull tank because they want to convince themselves. Of course some things are nice to have, but if you diy a lot, know what you're doing, buy second hand. You can easily make something just as good if not better for way less.

So there we have it Nathan, and as we’ve already discussed this is just to get a small tank up and running, it’s perfectly normal for anyone to start with the basic nano whatever make it is just to start with the basics get bored then start adding bells and whistles to make it the way they want it. Then get bored and want to upgrade even further. You and I have both been there with big tanks so know full well what it costs just to run them..... then we both downgraded for various reasons to where we are now and our little tanks are expensive enough to run. Not like I would want to put anyone off this as marine fishkeeping is extremely rewarding but not for the faint hearted regarding an ever expanding cost sheet as you’ve shown lol 😆👍👍
