The Rock has been playing the same character for a decade. He’s typically a law enforcement officer of some sort or ex-military, barely emoting, zero chemistry with female costars although much talk will be made about how much sex he’s having, an awkward out of nowhere kiss will happen because he’s the producer and wants to kiss the hot chicks, maybe he has a daughter in the movie but you likely won’t see the mother, rinse and repeat. I’m over it.

Exactly why I don’t shit on him so much because I mean why fix what’s not broken because it’s the reason why he gets so many roles etc. The rock excuse of not playing a true bad guy is bs. Supposedly he don’t want to be the villain because he don’t want to damage his brand. Idk how true that is but if so I can guess black Adam is gonna be more of a anti hero then a straight up villain instead especially in this day in age where villains aren’t allowed to be villains anymore without a tragic backstory

Red Notice is the first Reynolds movie where I really *felt* him doing his schtick actively hurting the movie. The other thing that bugged me about the movie is that it started out fairly strong tonally, where the humor was more natural and subdued. The first half hour or 45 mins was decently good but as the movie went on, it just started to get too...ad-libby? Worse, a lot of the later movie feels like reshoots.

Don’t blame Ryan. This is what Hollywood does when something gets hot, but more relevant this is what Dwayne Johnson does! His production company continuing his habit of franchise and trend hopping. He’s a total quantity over Quality guy. He pulled these actors together for a reason and it’s because of their names, types and reputation. The feeling that this is some alternate universe of of fast and the furious is no doubt part of Dwayne’s intention to take advantage of fast and furious for his own franchise interests, again.

@@Mainlyeverything not sure what your point is but if you look at his filmography, the majority of his films are well-known properties and franchises. Things guaranteed to make money and not require him to carry the film on his name and skill alone. The ones he has done that weren't franchise have rarely been incredible. Red Notice is just piggy backing that trend of using well name co-stars and similar franchises to float this movie. Its not a bad movie, its fine really, but Dwayne Johnson movies that arent franchise are almost always guaranteed to be about quantity over quality.

I think over rated is a bit harsh since the DP films are actually quite entertaining but you’re 1000000% right on it being over played. The problem is that other studios see the success of Ryan in DP and think “hmmm we can easily replicate this!” so they get Ryan in to play a role just like he would in DP without realising that the reason DP works and all the others don’t is because the wackiness and annoying personality is literally who DP is. He’s meant to be annoying because he’s pretty much insane but in films like Red Notice he just comes off a weird annoying smug guy and the extra problem is because so many films and studios try to repeatedly do this with Ryan specifically it begins to dilute and dry out the DP appeal

@dark dan If Ryan is basically playing himself in every movie than he’s no longer playing a character because every character is him or at least the “Deadpool” character he’s been playing ever since it catapulted him to stardom. Whether it’s Deadpool, Red Notice, Free Guy, Hobbs & Shaw, 6 Underground, Hitman’s Bodyguard etc., it’s the same gimmick over and over again just like all of Kevin Hart’s rolls. The same bread and butter, no honey or jelly.

@@kaibricturner8836 I was actually agreeing with you about Ryan's role in Safe House and Buried, he can be a pretty competent actor when giving the chance to do so much like Adam Sandler, however, the majority of what he does far outweighs the minority of those films. The studios & public at large clearly have a certain preference for Ryan (much like they do for The Rock) and unfortunately for Ryan (I say unfortunately because I do believe deep down Ryan would like to try other roles beyond his Van Wilder shtick) that is what sells the most.

Honestly, I've got to say ... Yeah. I'm tired of The Rock and Ryan Reynolds doing what they've been doing for a decade now. It's interesting how as a comedic actor, with his recent retirement ... Ryan Reynolds kinda reminds me of Rick Moranis. Both had stellar careers with some hit all time classic movies, but they've been put in roles and movies that don't really give them a lot of room to exercise their creative liberties. Either because that's what movie goers expect from them or Hollywood wants or both. So I hope if Ryan returns to acting, it's for something different. The Rock is in a similar situation, but I can only equate it to what action stars like Stallone or Schwarzenegger went through, and now he's tapping on that superhero genre to keep it going. I can only hope that with Black Adam, he is playing something else because I'm also tired of this action guy who has heart, seems to always be on the good side, but plays dirty, and he's impossible to kill or injure because he's big. Also, this rating Korey gave it is appropriate. It's a "rental", and what better spot for a rental than Netflix?

When Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) arrives at Sotto Voce's masquerade party, he hands security an invitation with a QR code on it. If you pause the scene and scan the code, it brings you to an unlisted video with the movie's bloopers Both Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson drink their own brands of liquor as their characters. In separate scenes, Johnson drinks Teremana Tequila whilst Reynolds drinks Aviation American Gin. No one, including multiple anonymous henchmen, museum and prison guards, is shown dying in the movie. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot are reportedly due to make more than US $20 million each for their roles. The meaning of the character name ''Sotto Voce'' played by actor Chris Diamantopoulos is undertone or to lower one's voice or being under one's breath or in a private manner. Ryan Reynolds plays the son of a policeman in this film. In real life his brother is a policeman. Dwayne Johnson's father Rocky passed away during the first day of filming. Production was paused while Dwayne took time off to be with his family and attend the funeral. Despite Interpol's official definition of a ''red notice'' on their website that a ''red notice'' is not a warrant the movie's opening title card definition of a ''red notice'' includes in its definition of a ''red notice'' that it is a warrant. Reportedly, the budget when the movie was greenlit was about US $160 million. When the film was released, the budget for the picture was reported at being around US $200 The chase scene in the mines bears a striking resemblance to three chase sequences from the Indiana Jones movies. These includes the jungle chase scene in 'The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' and two chase scenes from 'The Temple of Doom' - the mine cart scene and the satchel wrestling scene on the fallen bridge. Ed Sheeran being a surprise wedding singer is a nod to a viral video where he made a surprise appearance at a wedding and performed In one scene, Nolan refers to Vin Diesel. Dwayne Johnson (John Hartley) worked with Vin Diesel in four Fast & Furious films. The movie has a budget of around US $200 million which is Netflix's biggest budget yet for a feature film. During the beach scene after surviving the waterfall, Agent Hartley reveals that, in reality, he is The Bishop's partner. Gal Gadot's character then makes the observation that, after all, a chess board has *two* bishops. Actually, both players in a chess game have two bishops of their own, so every chess board has *four* bishops.
