    Great Work Sandro :) BTW for 2k 120 you still need to be in the 2k Sensor mode also in ProRes so still cropped. Only when shooting in 24p you can downsample to lower resolutions without cropping

    Loving the videos - I'm a E2-S6 shooter just making the transition from Canon so your videos are hugely helpful. I'd love to see you do a basic colour grading workflow on the z-cam. Not necessarily from RAW (one step at a time) but from ProRes. I'm no expert and I'm really struggling with grading the footage to show its full potential and also to match it to footage coming out of my Canon setup (1DXmk2 and C100mk2). Thanks - and keep up the great work!

    Hi, thank you for the comprehensive video! The images from both cams seemed similar until the point of starting the glint and the camp fire, which, to me, the Komodo seemed to perform better; the images there were 'prettier' as well as the good highlights roll-off of the flame. Would like to see more test on special lighting conditions (neon, explosion, etc.)

  • @ShotbyPicto
    @ShotbyPicto6 ай бұрын

    Great video. As always with these type of comparisons though, the one stand-out thing that immediately gives it away is the global shutter of the Komodo. There’s just no comparison in how the Komodo handles those fast action shots in the snow, compared to the Zcam rolling shutter. The Zcam does produce good images and at an attractive price point. But the route to those images is another thing: There’s 16bit Redcode Raw which can be stretched like pizza dough in post, the IPP2 color space, industry standard workflow, traffic light exposure system, ISO being only metadata, Red Control app etc etc.

    I remember the time I commented on an enthusiasts post that R3D cameras take quite long to power up, I got destroyed in the comments. but it's true, it's pretty slow, and for the money, and in this day and age, I'm certain that should be better and CAN be improved. This comment should probably carry a trigger warning for some haha

I have to say, thanks to this presentation, I am leaning towards Z Cam considering the price and it’s features. And obviously, it’s toe to toe performance against the Komodo. Very impressed. Loved the short! Would love to see it again but with the cameras native LOG conversion luts or with a more natural grade. Also I think this brings up the debate that global shutter is next level.. I think that whole debate is dumb for majority of people. Your footage proves that rolling shutter sensors still look amazing and just as good 99% of the time. Awesome video man! I've owned the ZCam S6 but have the Komodo now!

  • @cammackey

    @cammackey

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@PHUKU minimal on better image quality, more with just being able to push the grade harder (no LUTs) and having a better image just off the bat. The red jsut naturally gives you a more cinema look, can get it similar with the zcam but it takes more work and knowledge to get it there. But it’s raw, so the footage is more noisy, needs sharpening.. so to some it might look even lower quality than the F6.

    very nice comparison and very informative. the color grade on the skin is a bit heavy for my taste but other than that the footage look stellar. to me the komodo does look quite a bit better in some shots, and other shots they look similar. the zraw is a pain to use, gotta transcode and everything so for a raw work flow, for sure the red wins hands down. but for 10 bit 422 work flow, i'd pick an easier camera like the c70 or a7s3 anyday. :)

    Great video! How did you find focusing on the Z Cam? Does the monitor provide focus peaking so that you know when your subjects are in focus? Also is it easy to expose Zlog correctly? I know with some cameras you need to be overexposed by 2 stops which can get annoying in certain shooting situations. Would love to hear your thoughts on my 2 questions, thanks!

    I use the peeking of my feeleorld lut6 and it is quite ok. The peeking in the Z Cam App is very accurate. You don’t have to overexpose your shots with the Zcam. I always look that I have all details in the shadows and the highlights I pull down in post. But you don’t have to. Best image you get is on iso 400&2500. Cheers ✌🏼

    I own both, and your statement is simply not true. 16bit Redcode Raw compared to ZRAW, industry standard workflow, IPP2 color space, traffic light exposure system, ISO being only metadata, global shutter vs rolling shutter (this is big), more useable LCD panel, SDI output, Red Control app. The Komodo is definitely not an overpriced ZCam.

    It's close but still Z Cam looks like a like videoish compared to Komodo to the trained eye. I was able to tell which one is which at the first glance. But if I didn't know there were two different cameras used to shoot it, I wouldn't notice it. The difference is there if only you are searching for it. Someone watching a movie shot on these two cams wouldn't be able to know unless told prior. Vert impressive for a camera that's half the price of its competitor.

    hello! thank you for your videos. i have ZCAM F6 and it is a good camera for its price and portability. However, I will note that low jello mode on ZCAM lowers the black point and adds a dirty green color. It is enough to compare the image with and without this mode. When I bought the camera, it was a big mystery to me where this problem came from. At the moment, with the latest firmware, the problem has not been resolved, despite the fact that back in the fall in the ZCAM group on Facebook, the company admitted that it was a bug=( so low jello mode cannot be used yet. However, I repeat that this is a good camera!
