Yes the red fox can climb trees fairly well actually, and often they will use them to escape hounds when hunted, or at the end of a long chase sometimes they'll go up a tree for safety, but they're not any where near as good a climber as the grey fox which literally is born to be in a tree.

@@wcqlive That's amazing wow. I saw a gray fox a few years ago cross the road where I was at night. And just a few days ago, I saw a mother red fox raising a pup in an abandoned house.

About four years ago in the early morning …the sun just came up ….I looked out my sliding glass door to see a grey fox, an opposum, a whitetail deer and my cat all out under my bird feeder….all just hanging out….well my cat was just a spectator…..the other three were nibbleing on seeds and suet crumbs that had fallen onto the ground….it was just spectacular! They all seemed to know each other!

The squirrels just plummeted! Something interesting went wrong for them. This isn't what I call climbing a tree--it's leaping at a tree and flailing to keep from falling. So no, I don't think red foxes can climb trees, but they can be adaptable and resourceful!

Where was this video taken? He's as much gray as red; not convinced this is a red fox. Meanwhile, if we see a fox climb twice that high, that is climbing a tree. What i see here could be achieved by a nimble dog.

What if that was the foxes last chance to get a meal before it died of starvation? Every animal has the right to try to survive, from the cute little deer to the big “bad” wolf that hunts it.

@@migue24 Agree with you by the way. The only time you don't see a white tail tip on a red fox is if it has lost its tail's end. That has a black tip on the tail AND a gray's butt stripe. I live in a place with both, and by with both I mean we see grays in trees in my backyard and reds on the road in front nearly every day.
