    Amen on your (and my) opinion of 4 coiling a trap! Unless the soil/winter conditions are extremely against you. I see no reason for land traps to be 4 coiled. The original ideas came from Federal and State ADC coyote trappers that checked traps every 3-7 days due to workload. If you operate under your own area's (State's) regs for trap check, you will not need a 4 coiled or reinforced spring on a well cared for trap. ...........my experience. .........the mike.............. P.S. you may want to flatten/file the jaw surface of the rounded Mont. jaws to increase the contacting surface area. What's your take Dale?

    In my opinion Mike it's like trying to break a lath. Is it easier to break it over a squared off edge or a barrel? It's easier to break it over a squared off edge of course. A bone is no different. In my opinion

    Dale! Your videos are the best! Do you worry about coyotes smelling your scent or the traps? Do you dye and wax your traps?

  • @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

    Thank you Tom. I paint my traps with a 50/50 mix of enamel paint or rustolium with mineral spirits. I haven't dyed and waxed a trap in 25 years. Reason being, is if a waxed trap gets contaminated the wax will hold it. Then you have to start over again. If my painted traps get contaminated I can just wash them off

    Can you ever do a vidoe on your trap prep? I'd be interested how you degrease the traps and if you keep them open when painting.

    Any ideas on how to keep your bait from washing away during rain? I gave put it in a spent shotgun shell before, but do you have any ideas?

  • @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

    @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

    Droptine my baits and lures that I make are oil based so they don't wash away very easily at all. As far someone else's products I can't answer but here something we use to do back in the day. If you can get some 35 mm film canister they work great to hold a cotton ball with bait or lure on it. You can also if you want to spend the money? Get some 3/4 inch PVC pipe with caps too. Drill a bunch of small holes it. Put your cotton balls in it cap both ends and it's pretty waterproof. Just some ideas for you

    Hey mr Billingsley. When you have tain coming, should you cover your k9 sets with grass and leaves? Since dirt turns to mud when it gets rained on?

  • @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

    @billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes you can do that Slippery Ace. I don't have a problem with it. You can also use peat moss to cover in which will give some rain protection. It's just hard to bed a trap in it and get it solid. The other things you can use is waxed sand or dirt or coal shale. Those things are as close to bulletproof as you can use

    I’ve had traps out for 5 days on a property that is loaded with predators. I’ve had predators step right beside my pan but will not step on the pan. Any ideas on what to do, and am I doing something wrong?

    Lone wolf with out seeing your sets I can only guess that you're not guiding them enough. Or your possibly offset one way or the other too far. I set straight back from the hole. Most k9 are right foot dominant. So they plant that left foot hard and scratch with the right. Most catches are made on the left foot. Check out my playlist. I have several videos explaining this and how I think you should properly guide them. They can't step where you want them to step until you show them where you want them to step. I hope this helps you some. Thank you for watching
