Red Dwarf was part of the best times of my life. My 20's, living in Montreal. All of my friends and I were huge RD fans. We'd convoy our cars across the Vermont border to volunteer at the PBS station, manning the pledge drive phones when they aired Red Dwarf marathons. PS. Loving your new Electric Car Show. About d*man time. PPS. Just visited England and SO loved the people. Even in London. As nice now as my last trip 20 years ago. Not sure we can say the same. Shame mode.

Downhill...... are you mad?? I loved series 5 and 6 but it didn't end there or go downhill... it just went up the road abit. Our expectations were so high for this series that we missed the fact it was still a great show. I love it. I will always love it and 10 years, 20 years, 30years after the last series, I would still pay my hard earned cash to be the first through the door to watch the movie. Movie ,Movie, movie. Bring it on I say.

Red Dwarf was the most awesome of Comedy Sci-Fi's. You guys are all legends and I loved every single episode and have the box set on DVD including the Dave 'Back To Earth' which was based on my favourite Sci-Fi movie of all time Blade Runner. Very cleverly done. I would have loved there to be a movie of RD but alas that may never happen. Here's hoping though. Thanks for sharing your memories of this great series.

A friend of mine lent me video tapes of Red Dwarf when I was in high school, back in the early 90s and in a very dull part of the northeastern United States. I was hooked from the beginning. I didn't see--because he didn't have it--the episode called "Kryten", so the first Kryten I saw was His Llewellynship...and I actually had a brief moment of terror because the make-up was utterly convincing at first. I was like, "WhatinHELL am I SEEING???" Still love this show, years on. Great TV. :)

Late one night, I was channel-surfing and happened across the PBS station. I saw an android trapped in some wreckage and watched in amazement as he removed his eyeball and his hand, attached the one to the other, and sent the whole thing off for help like some freaky cyclops-spider thing! As the next few minutes unfolded, I was confused as hell, but instantly hooked. It was so bizarre, I couldn't look away! Thus, Kryten was my introduction to the best TV show in the world. Thanks, Llew!

Robert, Your viewer figures had an even bigger impact on some sections of the community. At the time I was working at an ISP, and we could see the precise moment Red Dwarf started as our user figures dropped by about 90%. Thousands upon thousands of techies across the nation logged off at exactly the same time, sending paniced staff running around thinking there was a major telecommunications fault. Luckily, us engineers knew better ;)

    6 жыл бұрын

+stiepan holkien, I wouldn't call Red Dwarf Scientifically accurate, as I could point out contradiction after contradiction, but it did open your mind to ways that Star Trek couldn't, take the episode "Back To Reality" for example, yes Trek had virtual reality tech, but Red Dwarf basically made an early version of The Matrix with that episode (so it was years ahead of it's time, and did something Star Trek couldn't do with opening your mind), and the list goes on. As for Star Trek, it's too Politically Correct and Soap Opera like for me, the reason Star Trek was so popular when it was first released was because it was original, so they basically could of done anything with it and still got the views, but for anything to follow it, then it needed (and I hate to annoy Trek fans) but it needed to be better than Trek, and in my opinion Red Dwarf, along with Alien films, Terminator films, Total Recall etc, have out performed Star Trek by miles, and looking back at Trek now, it's basically a Politically Correct Soap Opera set in outa space, and when Human travel in outa space becomes the norm (500 years from now maybe) then Trek would just be viewed as a Soap Opera.

Red Dwarf is a really curious thing to watch, mainly because it has aged far better than a lot of the other comedy of the time. Honestly, I think the fans of the original show would still tune in for a film...or a TV movie, or a DVD. It's just been so long since anybody DID anything with the show. I mean, there was a time where every other week had somebody talking about doing script read-throughs or somesuch, then...nothing. I just sort of lost track of it all. What about a TV special...do they still do the Children in Need specials? Doctor Who did it, why not Red Dwarf? Can we do it? ...and IF not, WHY not?
