The Holosun 407/507 etc have great auto-adjustment. Keep in mind there is always a setting where light contrast will wash out your dot, which is why iron back-up sights are valuable. And I hate to say it as I'm a big SIG fan, but SIG is shortchanging buyers with their limited optics options on the 320. Allegedly they are now offering a slide variation that takes a Trijicon RMR (therefor Holosun too) in addition to the Romeo and Delta.

It depends on the optic for me the auto adjust on the rmr type 2 ( havent used type 1 so don't know if they're different) is perfect for my me always at right brightness level and sometimes 1 brightness level higher witch i like and even when using a light in the dark i pick up the dot good but holosun auto adjust doesnt go bright enough for me in any lighting condition

Great topic Myles. I kick myself for not knowing about the HolosunC X2 when I bought the 507k. Wish I had the Auto adjust the C X2 offers for $307.

I was initially not keen on the red dot, but now that I am over 50 I am forcing myself to get used to them. My Holosun is an auto adjust and I can adjust it as well. My RMR is just an adjustable one I didn’t get the auto adjust one. Probably should have.

Just use the setting you would at the brightest part of the day and back down one setting and leave it there the auto adjust is too dim at night I wish the would make it self learning so you adjust it to your liking in all conditions then it knows the lowest and highest level.

Great point! I’m 46 and don’t have a pistol red dot yet...this video makes a lot of sense, especially since I do want to get one in the coming year. And you don’t look 40+....neither do I, but you look like you could be my son. Haha

Great video. Speaking of self defense, how quickly does the RMR auto adjust dot change from a concealed carry draw to the bright, intense light of mid day?

There are many. Every major red dot brand should have a model that turns on automatically.

Nice videos. But I disagree with this video. I have a rds that auto adjust and it is never bright enough. I set it to a bright setting that I can use in sunlight and leave it like that. It works well even if it is a bit bright. Also give the holosun a try as the reticle is much larger with the circle dot. And you can set it dimmer because the size makes it easier to pick up.

Everyone's eyes are different, so an auto-adjusting red-dot may not adjust to the proper intensity for some shooters, and no technology is every great for everyone--there will always be a group of people who for whatever reason, that certain tech, equipment, etc. may not work for. Companies make new gear for the majority, knowing there will be some people who the gear, tech, equipment will not work for. Overall though, the point of the video is that one setting will not do for the different situations one may encounter in a a deadly encounter. For example, depending on the brightness of your red dot, it may be too bright for dark environments.

I think it would all depend on the make and model of any RDS.. I haven't tried many but according to all the research I've done, there are many out there that simply don't get as bright as others

Won’t the manual adjust rmr’s enter an auto adjust mode when you hit both buttons simultaneously? Best of both worlds.

No, some models are just manual adjust.
