The Red Detachment of Women (紅色娘子軍; Hóngsè niángzǐjūn) is a Chinese ballet that premiered in 1964. It is considered one of the eight model operas that dominated the national stage during the Cultural Revolution.
It combines the techniques of Western ballet with the expression of Chinese folk dance, blending Chinese and Western culture in the field of ballet art.
The story takes place in China’s Hainan Island in the 1930s. The musical recalls the tale Qionghua, a maid who escaped from the employ of the brutal landlord Nanbatian. With the aid of Hong Changqing, a Red Army soldier, she stands up for herself and gradually transforms from a vulnerable damsel to an empowered warrior for communism.

Very beautiful performance!
Ballet wise, I do like the music, not able to see the dance moves. Nice footage. Have seen some clips of this ballet in other documentaries.

I don't know any thing in ballet regard, but ould be better if they cut the number of people on stage so the audience can just focus on the only few dancing people. Too much people makes it dazzling and hard to follow.
