PAPA FRANKU in my game he always sarcastically questioned Arthur’s sickness and overall was just a bitch towards Arthur whenever I was in camp, and that alone made me hate him. Not even counting his random interactions with the remaining camp members that displays even more of his changed personality which Charles even pointed out.

I was kind of confused because of how drastically different Javier is in RDR1 compared to RDR2, but It makes sense. Javier always put loyalty over everything else because Dutch saved him from his past. But after the gang fell apart, Javier was left all alone. No guidance from Dutch, just another lost soul back to his old ways.

Javier started to get skeptical of Dutch after Chapter 5, and even though he didn't side with Arthur, he didn't have anywhere to go but Mexico.

I still don't understand how Javier went from suave Mexican badass in RDR2 to fucking Speedy Gonzalez in RDR1.

All three of them got dirtier and more depressing as years went by. Bill was never clean but he always looked like a strong and capable fellow at first, turning into a creepy Uncle. Javier started a slick-looking guy who has some charms, and turned into a rebel without a cause. Dutch was the worst. Starting as a well-dressed and silk-tongued leader/father-figure while using fancy guns with engravings, to becoming a sad old man with barely any clothes and a shitty mass-manufactured pistol, leading a group of misguided fools to commit atrocities in the name of "freedom"

@@rexventura4603 exactly. And Arthur didn't just sacrifice himself for them. He found a good point to use his position to help someone else. But his sedition against Dutch was coming either way. Dutch changed into someone he couldn't recognise. He abandoned all morals and principles; the very ones he had drilled into Arthur. Arthur couldn't handle seeing his teacher, father and friend turn into the monster he did. All while watching his only family disintegrate and be set on fire by Micah. He would've broken off into a splinter group with Sadie, Charles, Lenny, Hosea, John and Seán if it were an ideal world. But his TV would kill him because he wasn't a man for resting in a hot climate.

I can't call Javier a coward for running from John. I mean, after seeing what John did to the Laramie Gang, the Skinners, Micah's gang, the Bollard Twins Gang, the Treasure Hunter Gang, Bill's Gang, the bandits at the river crossing, the rebels and the Mexican Army, and pretty much everyone else who stood in his way, I'd run the fuck away from John as fast as I could too.

I think it’s pretty interesting that Javier chose to run from John instead of shooting him when he was stunned by the crate, he still loved John enough that he couldn’t kill him.

Judging by the way John fell and seeing that he was still somewhat aiming at where Javier was. It would have been a big risk if he stood there to draw and try to shoot. But even then, I do feel that he didn’t want to even try killing John out of emotional conflict.

John's is literally the best shooter in these games, in RDR2 Arthur was the best shooter, he had the experience, he was older and obviously more skilled. He was stated to be the best shot a few times if I recall correctly. John was probably the second best, but Arthur was better than him at first. But RDR 1 John is a different beast entirely. Dude was basically the fucking Terminator, especially after he got trained to be even better by Ricketts.

His personality seems entirely different rather than that. In this he seems like a sleazy coward trying to slip away compared to the badass in red dead 2.

Kinda odd how Javier tells John to go back to his farm, which implies that Javier actually knew what became of John after RDR2 and had left John alone that entire time. If he really was out to kill John, he should have simply shot John after pushing that box on him, rather than just jumping out the window to escape. If he was also really out to kill John, then he should have stood there and fought you when he gets taken off his horse. When John messed up in the gameplay, Javier had another clear opportunity for a point-blank shot at John. Yet he chose not to and only wanted John’s ride to make an escape. Don’t get me wrong, Javier Escuella chose his side to stand on in the end during that scene in RDR2, no matter how hesitant he was to do so about it. However, even though he was more loyal to Dutch, I think part of him actually was genuine to John here and he still did care about John to some extent, which is why he was inherently trying to leave John in the wind and not have a lethal showdown with him.

He was loyal to Dutch because he took him in after fled Mexico and took care of him (this is revealed in one of the campsite conversations Javier has with some of the gang). Even though Javier may have had sympathy for John, he always felt he was in debt with Dutch, so he chose his side and was always loyal to him.

Javier also never aimed his gun at john or arthur in that final standoff. Seemed like he only picked dutch's side because it was dutch's gang. Also Javier and Bill get real close in chapters 5 and 6 of the game. They are constantly being paired off together and during crisis they talk to each other most. maybe when shit hit the fan and bill chose dutch, javier chose dutch out of loyalty to bill while still not aiming his gun at anyone. I really think red dead 2 was also supposed to show how much of a hold dutch had on these guys. Bill or javier weren't necessarily villainous to john in rdr2. Maybe it is all meant to just be shitty coincidence john has to kill these guys. He only tells himself they betrayed him because he is denial that the government has him in this situation.

John and Javier were good friends in the beginning of RDR2, Javier saved his life and the two were often seen talking and drinking together at camp. In the later chapters Javier and Bill start to become closer, them being the only blindly loyal members left in the gang. When the gang splits up Bill and Javier are seen leaving together, which explains why they're still helping each other in RDR1.

I love how you can hear Javier slightly crying when he says, "Go with your puto!" He's angry and afraid of the truth John was saying. RDR's storyline and character development so fucked, the tragedy of all those wasted lives and years to something that never mattered in the end.

It would make the power play between Leviticus Cornwall and the Van der Linde gang more interesting, with YOU looking to team up with anyone who could kill cornwall. I imagine the relationship between you and Dutch kind of similar to the relationship between you and the Saints’ Boss. mostly cordial, until you betray him. :) I guess you would end up controlling some of the Pinkertons once Cornwall is out of the Picture. Would be interesting to see Agent Ross realise that the Gang he’s after is buddies with his new boss. Lol. I can already imagine the flurries of sarcasm exchanged between you and Black Lung lol. As for Micah, well hes now you’re rat in the van der linde gang. Would be your choice to use him To destroy the gang or nor. I imagine you would try to destroy them tbh.

I'm sorry but you guys are trying to read more into this than is there. When they made Red Dead 1 only Dutch was meant to be somewhat tragic, Bill and Javier are pretty one-dimensional followers and slippery thugs, emphasizing the distance John had come from his former life. When they decided to make a prequel they realized people simply would not relate to one-dimensional bandits killing people wantonly, they had to make all the characters likeable. So Bill became dumb and sympathetic, Javier chilled out, and John became a young innocent do-gooder swayed by a manipulative father figure. Listen to John's description of the gang when he talks to Bonnie Macfarlane.

I can tell that Javier does care about John still and truthfully I believed that John would’ve let Javier go if they didn’t have his family

When John says “It was just an excuse and we all knew it” that really hits deepest to me of all the quotes in this game about their old life. Playing through RDR2 you feel that truth as the story goes on. They all justified what they did as a fight for “family” and a fight for a better way of living but it was really just a facade to make themselves feel better about being thieves and killers. They all had the choice to live a different and less violent life but they didnt take it partly because of the brainwashing that Dutch did to all pf them, making them think they never did have a choice coming from where they all did.

After I saw this scene, I actually went back on rdr2 to figure out which moment John was referencing when he kept talking about them leaving him for dead. I originally thought they meant the Saint Denis robbery, but John was talking about the last train robbery they ever did. When he gets shot and falls, Dutch, Micah, Joe and Javier go for him but then when we see them again they say he was killed. In the cutscene, Javier is in the background, not saying anything, like he clearlt knows they left John there to die. Bill didn't witness John being left for dead, he was with Arthur, Sadie and Cleet.

A bunch of details about the backstory were changed for RDR 2. Originally, the robbery where the gang left John to die was the ferry robbery, and that robbery originally had nothing to do with the Blackwater Massacre. In RDR 2, the writers combined those two events and revealed that John was actually shot for a second time during a train robbery. In RDR 1, it's implied several times that the last time John saw Dutch, Bill, and Javier was when they left him behind. But in RDR 2, John confronts them at Beaver Hollow, and he sees Dutch again when he goes after Micah.

@@Supertron1 True he does see them again after being shot, but if I remember right, he says: "I left the gang when they left to die" like not to say he literally left and never came back but saying he stopped concidering maybe staying with the gang at this moment, knowing there was nothing that would make him want to come back to them. But yeah when we read about the Blackwater massacre, it seems to be something else, but it does happen in 1899. Also, what was Landon Ricketts doing there? He's never mentioned by the gang in Rdr2 for witnessing and surviving the BM.

@@shydreameress264 Yeah, the Beaver Hollow confrontation doesn't exactly contradict anything that was stated in RDR 1, it's just kind of weird that Javier would try to talk his way out by telling John they left him behind because they thought he was dead. And the exact year the gang disbanded was never actually stated in RDR 1. Abigail says that Jack was a little boy, but Jack's memories of the gang suggest he was probably supposed to be older than four years old. I think they just connected the ferry robbery to the Blackwater Massacre because it happened in 1899. This allowed the coming of the 20th Century to be a big part of RDR 2's story. Some people think Ricketts will be in RDR 3 and his role in the massacre will be explained then.

It sucks that Javier ended up like this, I always enjoyed his songs at the campfire. I wonder what happened to Charles and Sadie though, they were the only good ones, especially Charles

Replaying this game straight after playing Red Dead 2 is so good. Makes the game feel even better.

Javier was always one of my favorite. Even in this cutscene you can tell by subtle clues that Javier still cares about John and the brotherhood they once shared. They would have left each other alone. Maybe even caught up at some point. Put with the big men pushing down on them both, they were cornered and without options. All Javier could do was run.

rdr1 was something special. loved the music, art style and atmosphere. the landscape and sky look like a painting almost

2:55 John mentions Cain and Abel, Dutch thought about Cain in RDR2 and named the dog after him in a random camp encounter.

It was nighttime when I did this mission. I think this mission is more suiting to do at night. Still one of the greatest games of all time. Great upload!

The Sad part is how smart Ross was Arthur died And dutch Killed micah John Got all the Blackwater money Then Ross Blackmails John to capture his Old Brothers And Then Kills John This was a Hole plan to End the Gang Once and for all And its Sad the fact How it all Started as a Family

@@paolaabad6106 well he wasn't outlaw, he just duelled old man to get redemption. There's a theory that he will become government agent. There were some dialogs with John when he was 16. Because most of costumes you unlock as Jack are Marshall outfit, US soldier outfit, and if you complete 100 percent redeemed trophie you will get Bureau outfit.

I legit believe Javier loved John. One simply doesn't stop loving a brother, but he loves himself above all. He really did take after Dutch

Love how rdr we all went in blind not knowing the backstory of what we were killing and experiencing. Now after rdr2 i just feel empty years later. Truely legendary game.

I think Javier just said out of anger that one day John would regret it and curse his family. Basically it can be that he can already understand John and believes that John only does it because he feels betrayed by him because firstly he left him behind in the attack and secondly that he did not join him and Arthur when the Micah was revealed was the traitor of the gang and was on his side because of Dutch. Maybe he finally realized that Micah was the traitor and another reason that Javier had a hard time. He had once believed in Dutch but now his belief in him was destroyed when he realized that he was just crazy and joined the wrong side. He must have regretted not joining Arthur and John, and later accepting his capture and redemption through execution.

1:46 you can actually hear the bullet close and loud as it zips by John through the air off to his left while hearing the crack report of Javier’s pistol faintly in the distance. This game was so ahead of its time.

Had a thought. If Arthur had survived he would have probably been on Ross’ list for John to capture or kill too. What would he had done in that scenario? I would like to think he would have just handed himself in to John😀

John couldn’t capture Arthur no matter how much he tried. Arthur was the gangs smoking gun and he would kill John easily.

This didn't make me sad when I played RDR for the first time. After playing RDR2, it's heartbreaking.

*it still kills me how the game painted John as a very strong character and then he gets knocked over by a crate that barely touched him-*

It went from javier looking for john to john looking for javier

It's smart that in RDR2, Javier was one of the riders there when John got shot and was abandoned.

Imagine how much sadder it would of been if Arthur was alive during RDR1 and the feds included him as one of the objectives for John. With RDR2 being exactly the same that is.

It's awesome to see how Rockstar make a story from a future and tell what happen before

I have a few problems about the actions done by Bill and Javier at the end of the gang: -During the final train robbery, Javier is on his horse with Dutch, Micah, and Joe, and goes with them to help John after John gets shot and falls off the train, after which Dutch chooses to abandon John. It 100% makes sense the Dutch would choose to abandon John at this point, likely spurred by Micah, and Joe, being Micah’s crony, wouldn’t say anything about the lie. But Javier, despite the fact that he had become alienated from John, he really doesn’t seem like he would agree to so callously abandon John at this point. I think that Javier should have been on the train with Arthur, Sadie, and Bill, and Cleet should’ve been on his horse. -During the final standoff, Bill and Javier, in their last acts of loyalty to Dutch, stand by Dutch, Cleet, Joe, and Micah against Arthur and John. While the other five point their guns against the two protagonists, Javier, due to his long friendship with the two, points his gun in the air. I really feel like Bill wouldn’t have pointed his gun directly at Arthur and John, but he wouldn’t have been so decisive either, instead, he should have pointed his gun downwards. I just really feel like Javier and Bill didn’t really develop their callous attitudes by the end of the first act of RDR2. Instead, it seems more likely that they stewed over the bitter way the gang fell apart in between the two games. It just really doesn’t feel like they harbor the same hate or callousness towards Arthur and John as Dutch, Micah, Cleet and Joe do, so it feels weird that they’re paired with them as the gang finally falls apart. Just my opinion.

The sad part about this is that John must lie to himself about his old life, so it can be easier for him to just give away the people that, despite their betrayal, were still held dear deep inside John's heart. Javier, on the other hand, really misses those old days, and since he was manipulated by Dutch, he felt like John betrayed everything he cared for and now was the reason for either his death sentence or his encarceration for life.

In RDR2 ..in horseshoe overlock camp...you can hear a conversation between JOHN and JAVIER ..john was saying that he want to go to mexico one day...that would be nice ...and Javier replays : you maybe will.......its kinda ironic that john really went to mexico...but he was hunting down Javier

I think javier was a true brother to John and Arthur, In the stand-off scene at beaver hollow the literal actor for javier said “he didn’t raise his gun at John and Arthur because he believed javier wouldn’t do that” what a true brother javier was to the gang, he didn’t deserve this

Looking back at RdR1 and compaiting it to RdR2, these characters really changed but grandpa and John. Its sad to see how Javier become like this.

Really glad I experienced this game during it’s launch.

If John had to find sean, john wouldn't make it back to the farm they would be in ireland probably drinking

I really need to go back and play the first one again having just finished the second after it finally came out on PC. the names of the gang members aside from dutch I didnt really know or care about because you didnt know them as characters.

This game is still impressive in 2024 what a gem 👌

Thing i noticed is on 0:45 John says the same thing Arthur does in RDR2 in some cutscene if I remember well, nice detail
