Good memories of playing this a long long time ago when I was a kid. I remember spending a long time just trying to get to a safe altitude, then learning to conserve that energy. I loved the turning speed of the Sopwith Triplane, which regrettably only had one tiny machine gun. I remember folks who were skillful at “zooming and booming” - coming in fast, emptying out their guns at close range, then zooming back up to conserve altitude. That was sometimes enough to finish off their enemies - in one fell swoop! The flight model was awesome in this game, even the more arcadish modes. It really felt like the planes had weight to them, and like the physics were somehow intuitive and real. I really miss those times.. I enjoyed this a lot.

This game needs a remaster and campaign.

Wow man. That was fun to watch. That game has aged wonderfully. Makes me want to develop a WW1 dogfighting game :)

@@maxbernschneider4175 You should check out Wings over Flanders Field by OBD software. The game is awesome and pretty much a spiritual successor to Red Baron series. The developers were in fact big fans of original and what inspired them to make WOFF.

Check out IL2 Flying Circus! Even has VR support :)

It's only as I've gotten older I've realised how spectacular this game was for its day.

This game was SO fun. Had many an epic dog fight in this one. I was in the Jasta 9 squadron and we had a great time. Thanks for posting. 😊

I was in FA-62 flying Fokker DR7's

Never played multiplayer back in the day but I had way too much fun flying different planes and trying to push them to their limits which mostly meant breaking the wings :) For me this was the first flight sim with a good stress damage model.

This dogfight feels legit.

love this game. Id played this game for hours back in the day not bad for 1997

I was talking to an old squadron mate of mine about his game the other day!! Oh man those were the fun days. We flew with the US 95th Aero, the kicking mules.

I like how you made the aftermath part

My dad was involved in the movie that you said inspired this, he worked as an extra as a mechanic welding a plane. You can barely see the light coming from his hand in the welding area.

There is an extreme lack of dogfighting games. There's one on oculus I'm about to try out.
