Today I'm gonna be master copying Sargent's painting in this video.
I usually master copy paintings to improve my drawing skill with oil pastels but mostly for fun:) It almost feels like a doing a puzzle but with drawings to me(Does that make sense?haha).
so if you are like me you might enjoy master study as well:)

Same with me. I'm in love with oil pastels but sometimes I just get frustrated because I find them hard to use for details, but then I found your account by accident and you inspired me, I want to keep on practicing, you are goals.
And suddenly, just like that, I'm into oil pastels 💕

its so much easier to paint with pastels. no need to rush because the paint dryed or else.
Your colour theory knowledge is astrinomical. You're a genius and your art is gorgeous😭😭👏👏

this is amazing, how do you understand where to put which colors so it doesn't just become a colorful mess and actually takes form and the colors speak to each other?! very impressive!!

I do something of a similar style and cool trick is to look at your reference photo and try to decide the dominant colour of the section for example if your drawing the tip of the nose look at your reference image and if it's more red then you take a deeper red pastel to do that section and if the skin is still very pale but slightly cooler in tone you ramp up the saturation and use are much deeper green or blue

every colour is a lot of colours. green is yellow and blue. so you can use those colours to shade, like orange is red and yellow so you can use those two within something that is just orange

If you get the values right the hues don't even matter that much.
This is really good. You did such a good job integrating all the different colors into the skin tone. It's like when you zoom out, it looks like skin, and then you zoom in and you can see all the gorgeous green and violet tones. 💜

I love adding vibrant colours to skins, I'm so glad you enjoyed my video🥰 I just uploaded my video this morning, hope you enjoy the new one as well💓
When the exhibition “Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends” came to the Met, I went every weekend for over a month, and I remember being particularly enthralled by the painting you’re studying here, I felt very lucky to be able to see such an awesome collection of his work in-person, probably the most impactful exhibition I’ve ever been to, loved it so much. You really brought me right back to that time. Great job, you really did it justice :•)

Thank you for telling your story with this painting! I'm so happy that this video reached someone who loves his art🥰💓
I love watching artist who knows that skin in not only made out of skin colours but also with many different colours! It’s excellent :)
My toxic trait is thinking that I can do this
Amazing work! I'm in love with your art style. The colour palette is subtly unnatural, yet hints at the human's skin tone and normal shadows. You have immense talent.

The final few shots of you delicately applying the white highlight in the eyes, for some reason, made me very emotional. Your art is beautiful, and so is the way you've captured your process.
I love how the pastel strokes seem to add "movement" to the portrait. Wonderful job.
This is absolutely stunning. So confident to lay down such strong decisions and stick with it. The end result is remarkable. I love how the first colors put down change by blending the finished layer

This looks like a “trust the process” way of painting. The colors you use look so wild and crazy until you blend them together and all the sudden they make sense. Very beautiful.

Thank you So Much for your demonstration. As an oil pastel artist learning portraiture , it is difficult to translate oil painting procedures to oil pastels. We do not need to mix colors. This has been more heLpful than I can adequately express.
So many useful things can be learned by passing all the colors and shapes through the hands! I have copied Sargent's portraits more than once and this is a valuable experience for me as an artist.
This is so relaxing and calming. You did a great job 😻

Currently using your own process as a blueprint for how I'll do my self-portrait project for my drawing class. I love how you don't go with the exact color palette and style of the original piece while incorporating some of your own distinct styles into it. The overall result is beautiful and helps people wanting to learn oil pastel understand what to do through your demo. Thank you for this upload! ^-^

Amazing! So inspirational! Great environment too! Thank you 😊
I think that oil pastels are such an underrated medium! They look so nice when used correctly and acquire, atleast when I use them, great concentration which makes them even more desirable, as I think that making art with a difficult medium feels better in the end than with an easy one. I remember my first time drawing with them... I got so angry as why I couldn't do any nice details. But then I learned, that the beauty of oil pastels doesn't come from the details you put in the work, but from the way you organize them on your drawing; How one mixes and connects the colours. Truly a beautiful medium. Great work!
love how you use your color
