Recovery Gear & Gadget Storage Solution | Pelican V730 | Toyota Tacoma Overland Build

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In today’s video we organize our recovery gear using a new pelican v730. One of the biggest selling points was the fact that it had exact drilling locations compatible with the Front Runner slimline 2 roof rack! My goal is to have recovery gear as accesible as possible. I hope this video helps!

Couple recommendations I have - use a dremel and chop those bolts off(not that big of a deal though, depending on what you store). Use silicon packets (or whatever they're called) to keep in there. If you're in a hot state you will still get moisture in there and the packets will really help. Also, instead of that plastic sealant I would use rubber grommets and/or hot glue. I don't think you're going to have that much trouble coming up from the bottom where the bolts are, but hot glue and rubber grommets are a 100 times easier to remove later than the plastic sealant. Also, I would store that extinguisher outside under your tent in a place way easier to get to. Awesome video George!

If you get some cheap Harbor Freight furniture pads cut them to fit the bottom things don't bounce around too much. When they get too messed up, just throw them away. I've found this works great in hard cases

I put 2 of these on my cap rack but installed 2, 20lb gas struts per case to keep the lid open and I also put a piece of 3in wide aluminum flat bar in between the bolts to add strength and make sure the bolts don't rip out of the plastic bottom

Love the set up! To prevent the lid from opening all the way. I just used Paracord and loop it through the middle lock holes. I used just enough to where it opens and doesnt flop over. I burnt the end of the paracord together and holds solid!

Great video! I did the pelican 1750 and they are great, I did how ever drilled a smaller hole just enough to fit the bolt (1/4) and I used rubber washers with metal fender washers for the outside and inside the case and it has held up pretty good so far. Just my 2 cents. Either way, great setup!

Nice video I did something very similar myself. I have one suggestion and one piece of advice. My suggestion I put a bracket on the lid of the box and fastened my max tracks to that it frees up a lot of space. My piece of advice would be to get two flat bars drill holes into them and fasten it down with the bolts reason being that box is only held on by four nuts and a couple of washers if you hit something hard Or have to break extremely fast with the weight of the objects in the box it will more than likely rip clean off your roof rack those couple of washers aren’t gonna hold it when living in Australia I’ve seen this happen three or four times . you need to brace the box to the roof rack two pieces of flat bar running to the nuts will hold the box to the roof rack as is , it’s not the greatest idea. No criticism or anything intended just trying to help out hope you don’t mind.

Looks good. My only concern is why did you mount it on the passenger side? I put mine on the drivers side, so when I’m stuck or whatever reason I need to get to it, I open my door and stand on my rock sliders to get to all of it. If you’re stuck in deep water or mud you’re kinda screwed getting to your passenger side without making a huge unwanted mess.

I bought the same one last year. Was debating with either the classic or vault series. Went with vault since it was cheaper and has the subtle orange accent. Also i noticed u did the same as I did with mounting on the passenger since originally. I wanted to install on the driver side but then the wheels was facing the front which looked tacky. Great choice nonetheless braddah!

It's not very convenient to have to unlock a box on roof if there is a fire you need to put out. Your fire extinguisher should be mounted in the cab (under the seat, behind the seat) somewhere it's accessible.

Think I’ll end up going with actual pelican air boxes with just latches down the side and more robust. Out $400 on these since I drilled through the bottoms to mount 🤦‍♂️

I’ve seen a bunch of videos on this subject where they use silicone/sealant like you. I still don’t get it. Water isn’t going to flow “up” into the case. And if water does get into the case somehow it will most likely be from the lid being opened in a downpour. In other word I don’t see the need to waterproof/“seal” a case like this. Worst case is you drill a hole for your hardware that just fits that hardware and its not too sloppy in the hole.
