Recovering A Jeep In Nasty TEXAS MUD

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Well, a buddy from work called me to see if i could come help pull him out.. It had just rained really hard for a few hours, so i figured it was going to be a muddy mess. I hopped in the Jeep Wrangler and Cassie and the Kids took the Jeep Gladiator. The rest is history!
This was my first recovery since we moved down here to Texas...
The mud is no joke, its very soft, and everywhere! I would have loved to pull him with a strap the whole way, but there was not a good solid point on his vehicle that i felt safe really yanking on. Plus, with the nasty mud, there wouldnt be much control of the tow (both me and the towed jeep). Winching was the best and safest option, it just takes alot longer. We got him out and they were back on their way to go dove hunting!
Warn Winch: amzn.to/2EUbvYv
Soft Shackles: amzn.to/2Z9XGf6
Traction Boards: amzn.to/331qhEJ
Thanks for watching!
Remember... Mudding can be fun in your Jeep, but its very easy to get stuck, so make sure your prepared!

Jeep doesn't exist any more... Its ran by Fiat cough, actually Stellantis. Last of the AMC powered jeeps was in 2010 with the power tech 4.7 V8 and the 3.7 V6 (their first and last v6 ever produced). They are owned by an Italian company. Before that Benz which is why the WK2 has mercedes benz stamped all over it. The benze logo is stamped under the dash and on the differentials if you get and chance go look. The Durango, Challenger, Grand Cherokee WK2, and Charger are all based of Mercedes platforms. Jeep has been dead for a while only in namesake does it exist and barely even that...

Just for the record, that Grand Cherokee is a Laredo trim. The Laredo trim is only a very basic 4WD system. It has no low range and consists of a series of open diffs. The good 4WD system with low range and the rear E-LSD can be had on the Limited trims and above only.

Welcome to Texas, that clay is notorious for trapping 4x4s, also its On the sides of many highways here, webb and la salle counties both have alot of that sticky messy clay.. hard as a rock when its dry too. Worked ranches for 20 years, best thing to do, leave the truck at the barn and work out of a polaris, or mule.

Your comment about overheating the winch reminded me of the Warn 8074 (8274 without freewheel knob) that I had on my Scout II. I abused the hell out of that thing, melted battery cables & smoked the paint off it more than once, but it never once failed me. The funny thing is they have less powerful motors and abysmal gearing when compared to the M-series, but people pay 2 grand for them. Fast unloaded line speed is important to some, I guess! I prefer the torque of my M8000, some of the skidder paths I get my TJ stuck on need every lbf it can give.

Pro tip: on a muddy, sloped road, you'll always slide into the ditch if you try to pull someone in reverse. You have no control of the direction your vehicle goes if the front is attached to the vehicle you're pulling. If you turn around and pull with the rear, you'll have much better control and won't need to winch.

    Sorry I missed you reply. It was a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (limited?). $78k worth of dissatisfaction. I am probably jaded though, Having fully built for Desert running, rock crawling, jumping, and over landing vehicles. Jeeps I have built since mid-seventies... ‘55 CJ-5. ,’64 CJ-6 (very rare) ‘72 CJ-5, ‘78 CJ8, ‘79 CJ-7, ‘89, ‘ 90, and ,92- Wranglers, 84 Cherokee . Non -Jeep’s: 2-‘76 Ramchargers, ‘69, ‘70, and ‘71 Blazers, ‘ 76 and ‘78, ‘82, ‘88, ‘and 96 Broncos, ‘74 Dodge 2500 4-door short-bed, ‘84 Chevy 3500, ‘79 F250, ‘90 F350, not counting the numerous Japanese mini garbage. Lol. Current project: 1974 M1 deuce and a half- multi (fuel engine) So I expect a lot from a Jeep that’s supposedly a worthy off-road trail hawk.
