Recording Movement Looks as Positions MA2 TUTORIAL
Ever wanted to store the look from a movement effect so you could use it later as a position preset? I'll show you how in this Grand MA2 tutorial. You should have a good understanding of the effects engine before attempting this.

The Bob Ross of lighting programming !
NO WAY!!!!! I am currently sitting at my own MA on PC setup, going through tutorials and self learning as much as I can. Right when I was trying to find a way to ask you a question about recording positions...you publish this! Legend! Keep up the awesome videos, Very helpful! Now to watch and learn haha
This will be my 99th time watching this video. The only bad thing is that I've never used the grandMA
man, you are makin my lockdown so much productive. Im a sound tech in a theatre and this time its moving me further with lighning control and helping me out so much watching your channel to understand the differences in the "philosophy" of how light designg its mean to be. Thanks so much! Now i feel like i can control few more thing in my theatre thanks to Wysi and your vids.
That is awesome!! I've watched several of your video's recently, and while I'm only looking at this from a hobbyist perspective on the same level of budget (so can't afford an MA2) your tutorials have triggered some thoughts behind how I can get more out of QLC+. Thank you . :)
Very well put together tutorial! Nice video Christian
YES THANK YOU!!! I don't know how I haven't run into this before-- I've asked so many people how to do this and all i've ever gotten are shrugs. Ugh, dude you've earned a subscriber.
Christian... I need more videos xD I love what your doing... Your Videos are allways intresting and I realy like the quality. Please keep going and make us happy :D

Sönke Be got a lot of videos shot but unedited. My work load right now with touring and festival season is insane but I'm working through it
I'm gonna keep it 100, I never thought of doing programming like that. I'm working on a gig for tonight and this saved so much compounded time that I was able, especially since I did not really have time to program since its at a school! You should do an interview or something with VJs and how you may (or may not) be working in conjunction with them. That would pretty sweet to see.
You opened my eyes on so many things man. i cant thank you enough ....
That's really clever! Thanks for sharing, dude.
Like first, then watch! Keep it going Christian!
Another very well made Tutorial, production level constantly rising. LIKE
Awesome🔥🔥Thank you!
Very good idea! Thank you

you are honestly my idol.
I literally was searching for "how to save postion from effect ma2" and this was the first Google result. I love you Christian Jackson😂❤
High five in 2021 from Saint-P., Russia! Have anyone said that yo're great speaker and it's pleasure to listen to you, haven't got any problem with understanding. What else.... Should I say that your vids and tips blow my mind?)
Top!!! 🔝 ❤ Thanks for the sharing my friend. Big hug 🤗
Thank you Christian
You are my new hero
you are best light operator thank you so much I learned a lot of things from you
hey Christian. I love your videos. I am a newbies and not in your profession at all. Since I am a kid I am always attracted to light shows like a cat after a laser. I find your videos are really great and explain quite well your profession. (Even if sometimes I do not undertsand all your stuff maybe because it is your professionnal expressions). Anyway continue like that. I didn't check all your video yet, but if it isn't already done, maybe it would be great to explain each differents material (laser, lights, etc), what they do and how you connect them for instance. Also cool different machines like smog machine, fire machine, small fireworks etc if it is also in your competences. Thanks dude. the best.
Great info! Yep I was shown the fan/align method! 🤣
Thanks, This is going to save me a bunch of time.
Excelente.! Muy buenos y útiles consejos.. Saludos 👍
thank u for the very nice video..
Love your videos...ive always loved anything lighting...im a promoter in the UK and dream job would be a lighting designer or an operator. Any gigs I organise or go to I'm always looking at what lighting they have. Thanks for the great videos.
Hey. Thanks for al the videos. Making content is not an easy task. So I operate a dot2 (at the moment MA2.......expensive)and sometimes I like certain looks thats on stage. I simply select my rig hit ‘please’ ‘please’ and that selects al the fixtures with there attributes and that you can store to a Executer.
Thanks Much!!!
Thx mate!!!
Absolute genius!
VERY NICE
Bro this is so helpful! You’re such a genius! Haha
Dude, thank you x100 😍
pretty slick!

I love ur vids lol
Cool! 👌
Thanks so much nice potions
mind blown puffffff
Great video man!! I'm wondering how you setup your fixtures... do you invert pan on one side of stage? So the don't look in same direction but fan?
Very usefull video! Can I change the store options via commandline?
Awesome work Christian, Would love to see an updated video of you going through your show file when your are back from the tour. I know that you already have videos like that but maybe you have made some changes to your showfile so it would fit better to this tour? I really admire your work, keep going! :D
I like this vid. It really make it more easy to create positions. BTW How can I figure it out to store wings, groups, phase and etc on the executor? I still don’t understand how it can be. Is there any video about it?
I take notes from you
Ok wow it's awesome! Is there a way to change the store mode from programmer to output on the MA1?
Good job man thanks a lot from morooco
More tutorials!!! :)
Man, it was so wicked to see you and shake your hand at Riverside Festival in Ottawa. Hope I made it brief enough while there was a break in Zomboy's set haha. Is there gonna be any footage from that date up on here soon?

Best advice on how to start doing this as a career
@LVessell
6 жыл бұрын
Start as a lighting apprentice. Work for someone who has an established career. If you do an amazing job or you start putting a lot of work into this, they'll eventually pay you. Being an apprentice gives you knowledge from someone else, even at your own pace if you have the time alone to work on software like GrandMA2 and others. It also puts your name & face out there. If you put out things like photos of your shows onto Instagram or talk to any connections you might have, it grows into basically your own business. This isn't a job you can build in just a few weeks. It'll take months or even years of work. To recap: 1. Be an apprentice for someone established 2. Learn more about lights and software. 3. Start gathering photos and videos of your work 4. Put your name out there in the industry 5. Start contacting people or you'll possibly get work to come to you. 6. Repeat from 2.
Can you make a video on how you lay out your console?
this trick just saved me from failing my final. Thanks dude, I owe ya!!

Very good job, but I ask you if you know the method to show the Composition image from Resolume Arena 7 into MA3d.
Hey Chris, it is very nice and faster can you tell me how you did the wings and groups on executor Buttons. Thanks
Please, what is the link to the previous video?
good
When are I coming to Denver?
if i double tap the position setup from my fixtures and then store, does it do the same than use store - output ?
Yes boiiiiiii
I keep watching this video and go through the same thought process, First how can i do something similar with the Hog4 software to make my life easier, give up and then consider why MA consoles can't be cheaper and how I can convince my boss to sell our Hog consoles and just buy a MA2 lite or something. *Update* I have found a way to do the same thing with the Hog Software... sort of, same outcome.
hi Christian I am the LD at my school we have recently purchased a command wing and I was wondering If I could please have this showfile?
Hey man love your videos how did you become a lighting operator? did you take college courses or go to a certain type of school for it because i’m a aspiring lighting operator and was wondering thanks keep grinding!

Really curious how you set up the wings and groups selection playback. Having to dive into each effect to adjust those is getting tedious when busking.

How to make CMY effect bro?
Christian, Do you know if zomboy or Dillion Francis uses any ear protection when they play. I can tell all this loud music every weekend is killing my ears... By the way the lighting looks great. :)

May I ask what are the difference between this store method or double tab the position column to grab the data? Thank you.
@christianjackson

That won’t take the effect into consideration, only the base position values. It would be as if you just stored a position with no effect offsets.
