Dr. Grant Woods former Wildlife Biologist at Growing Deer TV (turkey too) on his expansive acreage near Branson, Mo., has correlated the decline in turkey numbers to the massive rise of nest predators, raccoons and possum numbers chiefly (others too) and the massive decline in trapping permits per the Missouri Dept. of Conservation, MDC tracks both trapping permits and raccoon and possum numbers, he traps a lot to balance the nest predators to prey, turkey numbers way down in Missouri and lots of States, not so on his proving grounds turkey survey numbers are way up and awesome. Interesting assessment it seems way to many nest predators = way to few turkeys.

Your brood survey would be better if you would stop burning during nesting season.

Game and fish doesn’t burn during nesting season. That would be the USFS.

That is true you got me there. It just really burns me up and you would think the state could do something about it. But I'm sure it would be like talking to a tree trying to explain anything to the federal government.
