Reconnecting with X-Plane in the Navajo | X-Plane 12

Ойындар

The word for today is 'curiosity'. This episode sees the old man reconnecting with X-Plane 12 via a flight in the REP-ed Navajo from NZPM Palmerston North to NZPP Paraparaumu in New Zealand. I share my opinions on a range of X-Planey stuff - for what it's worth.
Please note the avian accompaniment gets loud during the approach - and there's a warning at the appropriate place in the video. If natural background audio offends your values, the mute button is your friend.

The Navajo is a favorite of mine from X-Plane. I really enjoyed the commentary, and agree about tribalism, which is funny since as you mentioned we don't need to choose one or the other but can simply have both sims and choose what we feel like flying today.

Another great video. I’ve tried the XP12 demo and quite enjoyed it, I may look at it now as part of this sale since I’m having some technical issues with MSFS (it seems some important fixes are coming in the next SU that may help me). Also as an animal caretaker myself, I enjoy the background chirps and barks. Have a great week!

Gdy mate. I moved over to to xplane12 a while ago and haven't really moved back. Why? I just like it😊

Thanks mate. XP12 represents pretty good value to me on sale, I have to say. I didn't mention it in this video, but tech issues with MSFS are impacting my 'vibe' too. And sincere thanks for your support of my animal backing singers. Couldn't do it without them!

I couldn’t say anything about flight model, I like how it handles in xplane, in msfs if I make a mistake I’ll just blame it on the msfs flight model 😅. What I really come for is the airliners, flybys, replay, and the airports are better. At the end of the day, if I want to fly the ATR I go to msfs, if I want to fly the A340, I go xplane, both are awesome in their own ways. I do fear though that msfs is taking it all, and not leaving enough space. Cause size matters in terms of community

Hello mate. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, I appreciate it. The A340 will get a run on my channel before too long. That bird holds a place in my heart. And yeah, the behemoth that is MSFS is dominating the market. Devs are following the dollars...

Greetings! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I spent a lot of time in XPlane 11, now using MSFS. Would be interested in you sharing your thoughts in the difference between 11 and 12, as I can’t see much difference.

Hello mate. Generally, you need a XP12 version of the aircraft for it to work. The Navajo in this video is a little different in that it has a mod which allows it to function as a XP12 aircraft, despite still being a XP11 aircraft at heart.

And I shall pass on your regards. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates the backing track. This is currently my most disliked video, and I'm copping regular dislikes these days. Hmmm, birds or KZread likes - what a dilemma...not!

XP12 + autoOrtho looks sharper and is simply better for the reel feel and has the best in-depth simulations. .MSFS is too arcady and the flight model is still the same as 10 years ago. In MSFS 2020 I really miss the waving trees...all looks so dead and flat. But VR flying performance is better in MSFS. I fly the FlyingIron war birds a lot in MSFS. The fun part is according to the Navigraph survey, MSFS players prefer the depth of the add-ons (read flying PMDG-tubes), but on the other hand they don't care too much about a realistic Flight Model. 🤣😂 So actually the majority are just mainstream wannabees, flying in their Disney look bubble. It is a sad trend unfortunately.

Hello mate. I won't comment further on the XP vs MSFS thing other than to say I'm too old to care :) MSFS, XP, DCS, whatever the next thing is...I'm just here enjoying every minute of this golden age of simulation while I can.

I think all this talk of flight models and airplane physics is a lot of hooey if it can't be experienced by the user. I'm sitting in front of a laptop with an ancient Microsoft Sidewinder joystick and neither sim captures the experience and occasional high sphincter tone of flying a real airplane. The best I can hope for is visual "immersion" and here Mr. Softy is the clear winner although I still use X-Plane 11 once in a while because of airplanes like the Navajo and several others that are not available in MSFS.

Accurate physics are a very slow process to improve, but they're only going to get better with time. In terms of immersion though, you'll never have that similar experience, because there's no immersion playing in front of a computer screen. However, when you're in VR, it does feel like you're in a real plane, depending on the type of equipment you're using and how wide your field of view is, etc.
