I'm in the first few hours of book 14. I've been listening to the audio books. It's been a long road from starting book 1 until here, but wow is it worth it. It feels kind of sad to know that this is the final book, the end of the story. But I am so excited to get to the end. Such great books.

Pretty impressive that they managed to write a series that, by book 14, you are not just looking forward to it being over with. Most movies, shows or books that have 13 sequels end up being absolutely abysmal by the end

  • @hansyolo8277

@@Plant_ParenthoodI think that's the difference between something being planned to be an Epic in scale, and something that is continued because it became profitable and not because that was the original creative vision. None of the books are really sequels, this is simply THE story. Not so much "oh I'll write 3 novels to tell my story. Oh those sold really well and people want more! How about another 3!" On and on until it becomes drivel.

For those hung up on the idea of Robert Jordan's "long-winded" writing style, it isn't as bad as anyone makes it out to be. You grow to appreciate the in-depth details about the world and the people in it by about halfway through book 2. And if you're still annoyed by that point, maybe an author painting such a clear picture isn't for you.

  • @totesmagotes213

I love the detail of Jordan’s writing. If anything, his redundancy can be annoying at times (smoothing of skirts and well turned calves), and there certainly are parts of the saga where we spend more time than I’d like with tertiary characters. I’d say that those minor complaints are worth putting up with in order to enjoy the series overall.

I just wasn't a fan of the long drawn out torture porn he puts in his books. Like yeah, we get it. Rand is being tortured with a magic pain dildo. Give it a couple pages and move on. But nope, he keeps coming back to it every other chapter to tell us that yes, Rand is still experiencing a tonne of pain.

I started reading it ~1995 and loved it from start to finish. It was a real experience working through the theories on the fan sites between books. I don't think the slog was as bad as many state, but I can say those 3-4 books were hard on us having to wait 2 years between books. The characters are amazing. As is the world building, magic and foreshadowing. Love it. I just wish we could get more sequel series from Mat and Rand.

The only complaint I have about Wheel of Time is that he seemingly wrote each book as if his readers weren't going to reread previous books to refresh their memory. If someone made a Wheel of Time Abridged, that'd be amazing. Shave off like 10% of the superfluous descriptions we've heard 60x already by book 11 and there'd be way fewer pacing issues.

I don't think it's life altering but it's a great story, and for people who are into TTRPGs like dungeons and dragons, it chalked full of ideas you can add into your game. *Spoilers* having players comes across a town where people encourage them to leave before night fall and if they don't they witness people killing each other in a haze, only to come back alive like nothing happened the next day throws them for a loop 😂

The TV show is nothing like the books. They've changed so much and have taken so many creative liberties that its not the same story IMO. It's like what the Eragon movie did to that series. I watched the first season with my wife and I had a lot of gripes with it, but my wife somewhat enjoyed it. Then I got my wife to start reading the series and now she understands why I disliked season 1 so much Now we're both watching season 2, and she's sitting there pointing out a ton of inconsistency and issues with the show. I'm not saying to not watch the show, just know the show is not a good judge of the books at all.

I like how there is so much happening. It has grown a lot since book one. However tbh some of the weird or negatives stick out a lot. Other then Perrin I feel like every charcter is kinda annoying. Maybe not the best word. Petty or problematic. EVERYBODY BE TRYING TO HAVE A JAB at someone in this story. Loads of little angry arguments. To a extenet it makes the story feel real and the characters have depth. But sometimes I am just shaking my head. Other times, it can be funny. Its hard to keep track of so much as well. The women are all kinda crazy. So much emphasis placed on gender/sex in this story. I understand it. But someone being a man or a woman is brought up a lot. I am really into the story. I will be sad when I finish it knowing thats the end

I made it to book 6 before quitting. I cant stand any of the characters. They are all very annoying and terrible people.

I can kinda agree. So far only Perrin seems sane. Every character is so problematic for no reason

Not to be that guy, but you are mispronouncing Saidin (Sah-ih-Deen) and Saidar (Sah-ih-Darr). But mispronouncing stuff in Wheel of Time seems inevitable lmao Thought you'd find it fun to know though.

I don't believe the show express there are two sides to magic that each is unique to the genders but rather only women call channel magic and if a man were to they are something of an abomination and is of grave concern. If they did mention the two forms it was very brief unfortunately. I can start to see why people disliked the show and prefer the books.

The Wheel of Time is a boring and pathetic saga that has left a profane mark on the genre. I wouldn't even use these books for kindling, they would probably be bad at that too!
