Recapping a wild week of offseason moves

Спорт

After a quick one-week hiatus for the holidays, Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of the DFO Rundown as they look back at the week that was around the NHL.
To start things off, they looked back at the early stages of free agency and gave a few teams that stuck out in both a positive and negative way. Both the guys really like what the New Jersey Devils have done so far this summer and that led Frank to make a very bold prediction about how next season will play out for the Devils. They also talked about the busy few days for the Washington Capitals, who got very aggressive in their attempt to re-tool their roster.
On the negative side of things, they had takes on both the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, who both made some puzzling moves.
They then got into the Steven Stamkos situation. The Lightning couldn’t find common ground with their long-time Captain and now, he’s off to Tennessee to join the Nashville Predators. Frank says the Bolts have made a huge mistake and Gregor agreed. Have the Lightning lost the plot a little bit? The guys discussed.
They also hit on the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres before talking about a few of the more active teams out West. The Predators obviously came away from the day feeling like winners while the Utah Hockey Club did a great job building up their blueline in just a couple of hours on day two of the draft.
Tyler then popped in with a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the two teams in Alberta and who they have as their Stanley Cup favorite out in the Eastern Conference.
5:10 - Free Agency standouts (Devils, Hurricanes)
10:00 - The Capitals' big load up
15:55 - Stamkos leaves Tampa
22:30 - Were the Sabres too quiet?
25:00 - McLeod for Savoie trade
34:50 - Who had the best summer in the West?

Frank's take on McLeod was spot on. And I would add that he frequently delays in search of a passing lane instead of just taking a direct line to the net or shooting.

I did a 16 day water fast. I'm 6ft3. When I started I was 216, when I finished I was 171. That's the longest I've done. Did a couple 10 day, 8 days bunch of 6. Water fasting sucks but I believe it's super healthy on the digestive system.

The Sean Walker deal got Ryan Johansen contract off their books. If they didn't do the deal, they'd have 4 million on top of the 13 million they can't use.

Hot take here but I think San Jose will be much better next yr, and by much better I mean like borderline chasing a playoff spot in the last few weeks of play. I say that because if Celebrini and Will Smith are in the lineup this upcoming season and with the additions of Toffoli and Wennberg, I actually think they just might be able to get a wildcard spot if everything goes right. 😎

Someone should tell Hedman he's "declining faster than Stamkos". Has 2 of his most productive seasons in the last 3 years. Woops. And don't get me wrong, Stammer hasn't declined really either. It was just a bad point from Frank.

As to the Sergachev trade I think you have to factor in what they got in return. Conor Geekie is the type of blue chip prospect they really needed. Another Sergachev type will have to wait til next year.

It's a bit weird that buffalo's top 4 d are all left shots and even though they are great young dmen i can't help but think they may get exposed at times and they're power play doesn't have a different look with a right d but hey maybe they are that good that it won't factor in who knows, I just find it a bit odd.

He is right about the state tax stuff . It is unbelievable how often I hear that - and they say it so authortatively - It is idiotic - first of all they have no state income tax - which typically is around -3 or 4 %. Next - you have to be a moron to think that these states do not collect taxers - they just get it from other places - like higher property taxes, higher sales tax , the list goes on and on. Put it this way - if you are living and making your life decisions based on whether or not you are in a state with state income tax - you really need a lot more help than probably can be given . But god it is so stupid that these reports come out like this all the time and they speak about it like its the gospel .
