Recap of TN-C-S Earthing Arrangements and Measuring External Earth Fault Loop Impedance Ze

Sorry the sound isn’t as good as my later videos but all the points covered in this compilation are required during our installation theory exams thanks Gaz.

Really good video mate, thanks for taking the time to make it. As someone who's only recently qualified as a domestic installer I like these videos as refreshers if there's a big gap between jobs.

Great video Gaz, I prefer to croc onto the earthing conductor as in my strange little world, I think it provides a better contact point. It's good that you checked the functionality of the RCD test button 👍

On series 6 cut -outs there is a link bar within the neutral/earth chamber which for dno makes it adaptable for both tns or tncs earning arrangements. This can catch electricians out if no id sticker is at the service head. On occasions in the past a meter engineer may have fitted a second cut -out away from a communal set up into a flat for example . Using a series 6 cut-out ( which looks very similar to series 7 and 8 cut -out ) is very useful as it accommodates both earthing arrangements. It is however of little help to electricians who assume it is tncs as they both appear to be in the neutral chamber.

Great video, appart from the end, you didn't put the earth cable back in to its terminal & emphasis the special importants of doing so.

You make great videos , I’ve been also watching John ward to understand the different earthing systems ect /wiring - it helps to have an idea of what’s right and wrong - for eg an upside down door anyone can spot haha - but I noticed a copperpipe earthing clamp round the service cable on a job -which is obviously wrong . The original must of snapped off or something, But a couple years back I wouldn’t have known

I put on some eye protection any time that I make any type of contact with either a live conductor or heavy battery terminal.

Great video thank you. I wish I could get my head around why the neutral and earth on the installation side aren’t linked? To me it looks like they are shorted out? Thanks!

At 3:39 you did not explain the extra wires/components present. Are these 2 meters ? Can you do some videos where the wiring is confusing like this ? Thanks for really great video. It was really informative and the Ze test at the end was excellent.

Is the 16mm squared earth cable labeled at 1:03 the actual PME? The way I understand it is the PEN conductor enters this enclosure and is then split by the PME giving us a separate earth and neutral within the dweling. Or is the PME simply an extra additional connections to earth along the length of the PEN conductor in case of a cable breakage making it a crude TT system? This seems the case from your video, I may have been told the wrong information in the past.

When doing a pfc test at the consumer unit, main earth (16mm) will be put back in to the main earthing terminal and re tested with all parrellel earths connected for a true pfc? Not sure if I am correct. Look forward to hearing from your reply. Thanks

Just to clarify... The line conductor which was the main incomer was live?? Dies the meter handle it when testing then? Also when I said out the Meter to impedance..is that not the same as ohms? Clear and concise lessons

Live conductors are both the line and neutral... if 10 amps flows in the line then 10 amps will flow in the neutral hence both live conductors 👍.
