@Neocon Ingsoctrination Mystic Quest had one of the best soundtracks of any SNES title and also was PHENOMENAL when you see it for what it was for: an intro RPG for non-RPGers. It excelled in bringing more people into the genre. If you were a vet to RPGs, it had less effect. I've ALWAYS been big into RPGs and had an open mind when I played it. Totally kicked ass.

Right. 90s they were focused on making a good story. But nowadays it's all about sacrificing good story telling and mechanics for graphics. It's a shame cause I'd rather have an amazing story and good gameplay over graphics.

Who thought a little rat, *could transform into a monstrous, traumatizing thing*
According to many, this is technically a Christmas game because it takes place specifically during the week/day of Christmas (Die Hard logic). Personally, I love the monster designs and mutations that remind of something out of The Thing. This game may have many elements similar to Resident Evil but to call it 'Squaresoft meets Resident Evil' would be very superficial. EDIT: Nowhere official confirms the alternate ending as canon. Since its an ending where Eve loses her powers, it cannot be the one that fits with the rest of the games, so its not the one I went with, even though its a nicer ending for Aya. Next RECAPitation will be: The Last of Us

Watched a couple reviews on this game, and thought it took place on christmas eve 1998 but no it takes place exactly when i was born, crazy. Also the third birthday was supposed to come out when i was three. So that unfortunately just makes this game a bit scarier to me. Thanks for the comprehensive recap, feel like a learned a bit more about the overall meaning of this game now.

Didn't square enix trademark it back in 2018, they also teased it in the ff7 remake with a billboard that had aya on it.

Oh, You!
My husband loves this game. He still has his original copy of the game he bought several years ago. I bought him a special T-shirt for our wedding anniversary last year. It has Eve in her first form at the start of the game; the title is in the style of the Final Fantasy font.
I love how Daniel burns up before he hits the ocean but then pops up later without a scratch and the same suit. lol
I just remember doing some 30+ new game+ to optimize my weapon at 999 each stat. This game was so underated, im glad to see you talking about this huge game
The rat cutscene really brought back some memories. :|

I remember the visceral appeal this game had on me as a kid. The first time I saw the rat transform I was irrevocably hooked. Of all the past PlayStation library this is the series I hope the most for a remake. More so even than ffvii and I wanted that one badly

Give Parasite eve some love Square. The original Parasite Eve was amazing. Even just re releasing the game on ps4 with trophies would make me happy enough. Obviously a remaster or remake would make me jump for joy.
Yaaaay this was my first game. Did you know that wayne and torres make a cameo in ff 9? As blacksmiths?

the t-rex was BRUTAL i had an ice grenade launcher that dumped like 7 at a time 😅 Customizing the weapons was so fun
Another beautiful 90s RPG with light action elements. For a Mature-rated game, I'm glad the rating is not a result of excessive gore and frankly immemorable renditions of internal organs dropping from injuries and corpses. I'm not hearing the 'airiness' of this RECAP, though. I wonder if perhaps my hearing is going? This was quite an incredible game, and I'm glad you RECAPped this. I had no idea there was ever a book about this, so thank you for bringing that up. I may have to see if there's an English interpretation of it. For how little time we spend with most of the characters, most of them are beautifully characterized with a handful of traits that impact the story (Also quite compelling in of itself) in meaningful ways. I also love the soundtrack. It is my second-favourite from my favourite composer, Yoko Shimomura. The weapon options are a bit limited, but I did enjoy transferring qualities and upgrades to my favourite pieces or swap to new ones with relative ease, especially in New Game+ when I figured out the nuances of the system. I'm glad you gave a passing mention to the Chrysler Building. Monotonous as it was, it was a very interesting scene and resolution to an otherwise unanswered question. I do wish that Daniel died as a result of his brave actions, but oh well. Even his suit seemed to survive being ignited! :P Jokes aside, great RECAP, and I'll meet you on the next battlefield.
This guy always coming thru in the clutch quiet friday night turned into a RECAPitation weekend giving me the gift of reminiscing about such an incredible squaresoft game all weekend heres to hoping we get parasite eve two as well hope ur staying safe during covid. Thanks again!
So, back in 1999, I was working for Wal-Mart and a co-worker told me about Parasite Eve. I grabbed a copy on my way out after work one day and fell in love with the game. I've been telling anyone who will listen about it ever since. I wish I still had my disc copy but I have the PS1 digital copy on PS3 and I have the strategy guide, which has both screenshots and 2D floor plans for each stage. If you've never seen the strategy guide, I highly recommend looking it up because it does a really good job of explaining a 3D environment in a game to people who, at the time, were still getting used to the idea of playing games in 3D.
This is one of my favorite games. I wish that the franchise didn’t go so down hill after the second game. God this brings back so much memories

@@Jose-se9pu I don't know if I'd go so far as to call the second game bad, but I think the biggest problem was that the series didn't build upon what made the original so good. They just became totally different games instead. They had a winning formula with the first game, and basically tried to make new Coke after.

I started to love this series because of the second I tried to play the first one and I didn't got the same vibe that the PE2 hooked me, so is subjective which one is good.

DavM I agree with what you said pe2 did have better combat and was more polished. I played it played it twice and unfortunately I just found it be a bit boring. I’m glad there are people out there who like the second parasite eve game personally PE stands as my favorite. I would love to see the series make comeback with a story and antagonist like pe1 with the combat of pe2 I would buy that in a heart beat.

Great choice! I absolutely love this game. My favourite part is probably the creepy monsters /imagery.
Why hasn't no one mentioned this game in the remake talks?? This is the perfect lovechild of FF and RE
@xheralt

Where the series started going downhill was by emphasizing the RE aspect instead of being itself. It fell off a cliff when it started trying to be wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey Assassin's Creed instead of RE.

Parasite eve is the story of when you emphasize “power” in power house of the cell
Thanks for the great video! I loved this game as a kid! And in case nobody has told you today, you're doing a great job!
To this day this game remains one of my top 3 behind A Link To The Past from the Zelda series and my #1 game is Final Fantasy 7. This game though is just beautiful and spooky. I love playing it during the Winter time around November December and trying to beat it just before Christmas. It has almost become a tradition I look forward to.
Thanks for this. Was longing for some good PE recap videos and here you go...my favourite "recapper" did it. Looking forward to the next installments' recapitations 🤘🤘🤘
WE NEED THIS REMAKE!!!!

No. SE cant remake anything without ruining it. This series died because 3rd birthday did the same shit ffvii remake is doing now.
I love this game series I love the second one even more. This was my resident Evil.
Nice Parasite Eve and Xenogears are my childhood favorites brother. Your channel is one of my favorites also.
OH! you did ANOTHER one of my favorites♥ thank you so much!
I loved this game so much in high school. I really hope they do a remake 😍
Classic game... love it. Thank you for covering all of these gems
I remember showing all of my friends this game! It was short enough, I'd play it a few times, but found the crystler building part too tough. That ending with everyone sitting there with the red eyes was so creepy!!!
With a retrospective like this I can see overall how this is a great horror story that uses magic.
i’d love one for Parasite Eve 2!
To this day i still have a crush on Aya, amazing character, dutyful and has a big heart also tough as fuck!
ive been waiting for this one!!
Interestingly they took the concept of mitochondria from real life. It’s theorized that mitochondria were once separate from cells way back in the day. But were somehow absorbed and formed a perfect symbiotic relationship.
I miss the 90s 😭😭
I was hoping for this
Wow thanks you so much for doing this one, loved this game is the first jrpg I ever played, hell I still the have the ps1 original game at home.
playing this game during summer in my high school days it felt like its christmas and its cold and its AWESOME FEELINGS EVER!!
im so happy you made this video!! but i have one request.. can you make a video on The Silent Hill games?!?
Mitchocondria Eve was the first video game villain that made me scream “YAAAAAAS” at a screen.
Small correction: The ending you talked about is the noncanonical bad ending while the alternate ending you mentioned in text is the true canonical ending. Also, based on the events of the sequel, Aya doesn't actually lose her powers. Great recapitation otherwhise.
@xheralt
4 жыл бұрын
Well, her powers clearly became dormant between games. From her standpoint, that would have constituted a "loss", especially not knowing when or even if she'd regain them.
@Ergeniz
3 жыл бұрын
@@xheralt Both of you are incorrect. It clearly stated she purposely let her abilities atrophy because she feared how strong they were and isolated her from her co-workers. Which also contributed to why she left the NYCP and joined MIST. She has rudimentary PE skills at the start of the game in PE2, she never lost them just didn't use them.
I had forgot all about this one, but its a classic for sure!
This game was so hard when I was a kid! Now as an adult I don't have time to play so I thank you for recap!!
Yes!!!!!!! Favorite series of my childhood Nobody ever mentions....Til now
Oni!! U done activated my mitocondrias!!! Lol
This game was so great! With all the science we know now a remake would and could be even crazier and longer. (Yes I know it was more like pseudoscience but with more info to play fast and loose with? That’d be ridiculously awesome)
Bring this back. I would love to see this and the sequel as RPGs and/or open world games using current tech
Much love from Vancouver
Wow!!!!!!! Memory lane. One of my favorite games on the PS. Especially going up that Chrysler Building.
suddenly i need a series
Oh thank god for this video! I’ve always been meaning to finish Parasite Eve since I received it for Christmas brand new that year. For a couple of years I only progressed to under the opera where the first rat is, then turning it off for my disdain for turn based combat and menus. With the purchase of PE2, my fault figuring it would be advanced and easier, I picked up the original gameplay again and this time got to just after meeting the doctor. Then turning it off and not returning to this day. The story was cool, the graphics were great for the time. I love pre rendered backgrounds like Resident Evil. Wish the gameplay was more like those games and less menus. So in the back of my mind I’ve always felt the need to complete this game to make sense of my purchase. Insert “It’s been 84 years” meme.😄 Now my soul can rest and not become a ghost that needs to finish Parasite Eve on PS1.😂
Bless you OBM
So that’s why the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
We need the RE 2/3 treatment for these games. Except the Third Birthday, we don't talk about that one. In fact, maybe remakes could allow a real third game to be a thing.
One of the best game on the PS.
I've always wanted a new version of this to play in modern times.
One of my favorite games ever, but the plot is .... a little insane. Nice to see you translating it for others. Let me ask you this riddle... Why is Aya's date NOT bursting into flames in the opera house? (It is answered in the game)
Ooooooooo PE. Thanks for the recap dude good choice
How freaking weird, I literally got this on my vita yesterday. and the 3rd Birthday.
I've wanted a remake of this game for years..its a different version of an rpg but it's the FF7 quality of it's time. I just want updated graphics no change to combat or the story. Both of those mechanics were already amazing. The only thing I would add is a quick change for a secondary weapon instead of using the menu
Woohoo I loved this game!!!
Este y el 2 tienen un gran potencial, necesitan un remake.
2:23 Guess the Mitochondria was no longer content just being the powerhouse of the cell.
loved this game
I’ve only played third birthday, but the old series looks rlly cool
Yo. Great job nvr played this game but was interested in the story. Can you do a what is threads of fate? It's an old ps1 action rpg
Loved this game. Hope they remake 1 and 2
Can you go over the sequel and the other spinoff from Parasite Eve please? I played this game when I was way too young and didn't really understand the story.
This game is criminally underrated...and this game actually could use a remake.
I miss this game
I need to play this again
I think the video where the giant becomes egg and shoot it's an oversight, since it can just immolate people and destroy the chopper with it and it's actually shown just right after with 2nd chopper convoy and another with the destruction of naval convoy
PE 2 was my all time favourite game. The graphics and sound effects at the time were amazing. It was super tough battles and tricky puzzles. Would love a remake but for some reason never gained mainstream traction.
Def needs a remake , my fav Psone game of all time
Ahh...the classic Aya Sandwich. Priceless
This game made my childhood great. ❤
I'm waiting on a remaster of this game.
the opera scene and the boss battle in the burning horse carriage would look so good on a remake
Now you have to do Parasite Eve 2
I'm surprised that I you don't have one of these for "Secret of Mana." It's a great game with a wonderful story.
Total Number of Times Oni Had to Say "Sperm": 3
still best series ever made
Fun Fact: This game is actually based on a book of the same name by Hideaki Sena. It's available in English via Kindle form on Amazon. It's the story of the Japanese man who's wife was in the car accident. I also agree this game needs to be remade. AMAZING game but surprisingly short. This was my first game I ever completed.
so good
“As Eve leaves one again to give birth” Is possibly one of the worst sentences I’ve ever heard out fo context
Dam this game looks fun af
You should do nightmare creatures
Will you be doing parasite eve 2 as well?
This was squares answer to Resident Evil 2. I remember when this came out after RE2 was the biggest thing.
This was such a great game.
If this game got a Resident Evil 2 Remake treatment, it would be absolutely epic.
This game scared the fuck out of me as a kid. It might be the origin point of why I feel pale seeing blood.
No, Daniel.... Oh, he’s okay. Whew!
There is something missing, the NG+ chrysler building dungeon with its additional story!
I hope they give us a proper PE3 in the future 😩 I loved The 3rd Birthday, but I don’t count it as a true sequel. You should do PE2 one day
What is Parasite Eve......... a game that got me, and a Blockbuster employee in trouble when I rented it. I was 13 when this game came out.
I can't believe square Enix made a resident evil game.
