I heard a theory recently when watching a streamer play this game, Inuart is repeating Furiae's name over and over because he's trying to sing it, but song was the price for his pact. Hence the insane sounding chants in his despair.

The Ending where the dragon and the main character just get blown up by the air force is one of the funniest things I ever seen

I remember being blown away by actual dragon flight combat when this game came out. My brother would play the hack and slash parts and I would do the flying sections. Those were the days haha

@@Darth_Bateman Indeed. Fun fact, Yoko Taro hated the happy ending trope and the little sister trope, so he had each of the characters die, have the world end, and had Furiae killed off as a form of backlash.

"become as gods." Yup..that's the ending leading right to Nier. This game was amazingly disturbing and Darkengard 3 deff did pretty good leading to it.

As I have played this game a few times, I have no comment on the story itself; you know how much I love it, despite American censorship. But I absolutely love the word choice used to describe Caim's relentless slaughter of the Empire's soldiers and the cultists behind it. Your writing here is absolutely great. "Creating a Hell of bullets." A reference to the entire Bullet Hell genre! I love that. "Red eyes black dragon." Yu-Gi-Oh, despite having barely played it. Forbidden Memories in particular. "159 note combo." Whether intentional or not, Dance Dance Revolution and its spawn was referenced here. As well as proclaiming just *how hard* this final mission was. I suppose there was no good way to include the phrase "as the Empire strikes back...", but I'm still sad it was not referenced some way, somehow. I'm rushing to rendezvous with you on the next battlefield.

I believe Caim is supposed to be a reference to Guts during Berserk's black swordsman arc. The Dragonslayer is referenced twice by the "iron will" weapon and possibly Caim's own sword.

This is probably the most fucked up game I've ever played, and I love it for that. There's literally no good ending and every character's some kind of monster. It's great, like Panzer Dragoon x Dynasty Warriors meets Requiem for a Dream. Tell me i'm not wrong. I bought it when it first came out, and during that week my car was getting body work & paint done so I was basically SoL on doing anything by myself. I spent a majority of that time running through the game. I don't think I finished every ending/leveled everything to max during that time but I got pretty damn close. I still have that copy as well as 2 & 3 and the Nier games.

Hey OBM, as an avid gamer who will never have enough time to play and finish all the games on my back log, I thank you so, so much. I only wish there were more of you so I could get a video daily. Maybe Twice daily? No, that would be too much awesome for the universe to contain. And unlike everyone in the comments, I did NOT get the yu-gi-oh reference. Sorry, I've failed you.

So the world ends due to giant babies, the "queen baby" and the protagonists get sucked into modern-day tokyo where the queen is killed......then the protagonists are shot down and killed by f-14's? And that somehow leads to nier? Did.....did I hear that right?

Played and beat this game for the first time in 2020 for Ending E (aka 100% completion) and holy fuck this game is terrible but I absolutely love the story. Dragon Combat stages are pretty cool.

In hindsight, Drakengard might've been too over the top with trying to display dark and dreary themes. I mean the plot of the first game alone is about a Knight (whose honestly a total ass) and his Dragon recruiting a young boy, a pedophile, and a cannibal in a quest to rescue his sister from her crazed fiancé, who really is only jealous due to the fact that the woman he adores has incestious feeling for her brother. Its great that down the line, Nier and Nier Automata feels more grounded in its story telling, with more understandable and reasonable characters and touching on themes that resonates well with players.

Drakengard wasn't meant to be subtle or understated. It was over the top, in your face, gratuitous and that's why it works. Nier is a different series and has different way of story telling

FFX is one that still holds up amazingly well from the ps2 era

You know I'm kind of happy they never reference this in nier. 1. The series is a little bit too vulgar for my case especially after 3. Go to be fair I only seen three and now the recap of 1. 2. Ending that links this to my favorite Square Enix game(next to Star Ocean:The Last Hope & Final Fantasy XIII Series) is so stupid.😂 I mean it sets itself up to be so serious with that final fight then ends it off on something so comedic. I mean it kind of reminds me of Venture Brothers /Rick and Morty. You know how they're in a serious situation and they solve and comedic stuff happens but after all that is done they show the aftermath of the comedic ending with your son super serious. If it wasn't for me watching shows like that this would be funny. But because my overindulgence of media of the same format. It just kind of comes off as stupid. It's like how sad endings don't really affect me cuz of all those bad ending games(mostly puppet combo) and other sad animes people are making nowadays.

This story is both hot garbage and interesting at the same time. Hard to explain, but I love it

I got to about chapter 4 on PCSX2 before deciding that yeah the gameplay is a bit too repetitive for me and this is coming from someone who played Dynasty Warriors 3 and 4 at the same time this game was out (granted i was still in elementary school). I’m just gonna go onto Drakengard 3 on RPCS3
